The inability to make third-party apps as your default ones is another example why iOS can be so restrictive.

Totally agree, not having the most basic of options of letting the user decide which app he or she wants as the default app is insanity in 2017. Just shows that it's Apple's way or the highway. They know what's best for you.

And just another reason keeping me from buying an iPhone. And why a JB is desperately needed for iOS 11.

Vast majority of people don’t care about defaults and use what’s pre installed. It’s one of the main reasons Google pays Apple so much to be the default search engine in IOS. Google knows 90% won’t change it.

It’s really too bad Google had display issues on their Pixel 2 XL. It’s an awesome phone otherwise.

Huge drawback to IOS imho......I should be able to make Google Maps my default app when I ask siri for directions on my 8 Plus. Google Maps is sooo much better than Apple Maps.

Yes. This drives me batty. You can get Siri to open Google Maps if you’re jailbroken. But public jailbreaks for iOS are becoming a thing of the past.

Honestly on experience lately there has been not much difference for me.

The fact you can get directions to sync on the Apple Watch is a great feature. Something google should add

It was there on Apple Watch but Google removed it for some reason.

I don’t get why Samsung is the only company that can get OLEDs the best. What happened to Sharp, Sony, Toshiba?

I read on Androidcentral that Samsung bins more OLED displays than the total production of display manufacturers like LG as they just have more resources which companies like LG lack which results in lower quality standards for companies like LG. Apple and Google have pumped a lot of money into LG to enable them to compete with Samsung but Samsung is on the 7th generation OLED while this is LG’s first Mobile OLED displays. Its going to be very difficult to compete with Samsung in OLED displays. They are to mobile displays what Apple is to mobile SOCs.

I used Apple maps recently and it was pretty good. I like that it shows the turning lanes.

In the US i think Apple maps is fine, its once you get overseas that it may become inaccurate.

Waze is my go to navigation app.

Here in the states for me Google Maps is much much better.

So i get home from work today and my partner is complaining that her battery is draining fast and the phone (iphone 6) has slowed down.

"Perhaps i should look at getting a new phone, it is beginning to frustate me...."

She says.

I'll try and figure out what app is causing the drain and see if i can maybe reset the phone for her.

iOS 11 is complete crap at battery efficiency. My 7 Plus doesn’t last as long as it did on iOS 10. I could use my phone confidently and with heavy usage it used to last a day on iOS 10. I now need to top it up in the middle of the day on iOS 11.

I go back and forth. Waze seems to be much slower to reroute me. They both try to get me to turn left though in places where it's nearly impossible, which I find annoying.

I live in Singapore. Apple maps is at least good enough to get me to where I need to go that I don’t feel like I am missing anything from not using google maps. Plus I actually quite like the Siri integration of Apple maps.

Well said on the OLED stuff. Reality is, some of the early Samsung OLEDs were pretty bad, but they have the most experience and have put in the most resources since.

I’ve never had a problem with Apple maps, it’s always worked on the few occasions I’ve used it. I always just seem to default to using google maps though.

I would like to be able to change the default to Google Maps as I think it is better. It has proven to me to be a great deal better in my side by side uses.

What do you mean sync?

If I'm using navigation my watch will tell me where to turn and such.
