This is jacked.
Before holding the X I was not interested due to screen width & Notch. I’m a + user.
After testing out the X I was tempted but initial response was screen too small for video and documents.

This post explains so much.
I don’t know if the Notch counts towards 5.8” screen size. It shouldn’t. In addition, these ‘safe’ zones should not count towards 5.8”.

Another thing I noticed was, to my eyes, my 8+ screen wasn’t missing anything compared to the X & my Plus doesn’t get blue shift.

Less & less tempted.

It counts. Usable vs. Measurable :(

It’s a great built device , really is . Build quality reminds me of iPhone 4

Miss the home button though . Home button/touchid is why I returned my Samsung s8 .

My biggest gripe is all my apple devices have a home button, using the X feels weird.

And last all, I would probably keep it had it been a £800 + AC , so about £930. At £1350 I see just no value in it. I just bought got a Leica lens for what ....which will not loose value as much as a X in the next 24 months. Sadly the markert is so saturated with phones , the depreciation is huge. Picked up a 7plus 256 red with AC for £630 one month ago.....

Like I said in another post it’s Apple’s marketing that has people buying a device that’s not the best. And if your honest the X isn’t worth $1000 plus all the bells and whistles. Most people want the X because they want to be on top of the food chain. The Pixel actually is a great utility device.

Damn :( it’s just annoying not having battery and % left at the same time . The notch implementation is annoying .

And ffs why can’t we have time, reception and battery available in landscape?

Day to day use, I prefer mine 7. The 8 with the glass back feels really nice , and could just be the better phone.

I love it overall, but I dislike that the 3d icons floating over the wallpaper is gone. Also that the battery percentage is gone from the main screen, that the indicators that do exist in the horns don’t populate in landscape mode creating a waste of space.

I have a Pixel 2 as well. For an all around utility device I like the Pixel 2 even compared to my X so far.

I’m not a gamer but if I was the X hands down is a better device for gaming. As far as camera which I use a lot pic quality is about the same BUT with the Pixel it’s more of a point and shoot. Both OS IMO are buttery smooth.

If it's absolutely critical that I need to know, I can pull down CC, or call Siri to check.

It's a minor inconvenience, but not a deal-breaker.

I like all the hardware part so far on the iPhone X, of course there are something there could have been tweaked a little, but nothing really to hate at all.

The only thing I hate is the software. The use of power and screen are not great on the X.
A lot of apps has wasted space where it feels logic how it could be implemented better. This is not an issue with the notch and rounded corner, but poor implementation only.

I could really see that drag and drop could go to the iPhone. With the swipe on the home-bar, you can easily hold a file and swipe through apps to find the right place.

Also I think the home bar is very unnecessary. I know it is to make things more simple and easy, but I think the navigations to home and through apps easily could be remembered and done without a bar in the edge.
The homescreen don’t show the bar, and it doesn’t confuse people.

The lock icon on the lock screen should only be showed when swiping up, and Face ID haven’t verified or not accepted yet.

I'm really starting to hate face ID. It doesn't work very well while lying down.

I'm really missing the fingerprint sensor.

I've always had a Lightning Dock, and it's the best thing for desk charging. I never missed wireless charging because of it. But now that wireless is a thing for iPhones, I might get a wireless dock.

What do you mean by that? Are you talking about the “perspective” wallpaper? If so, that’s still there but I had to reset mine, it reverted to stills when I setup my phone.

The only thing I can’t stand is control center from the top. I can’t reach it easily and I use it a lot.

I also hope they change the app switcher so you can just swipe up to close without needing to tap and hold first.

Ok Day 3 report.

Last night I was out and about late, and used the iPhone X a lot. All of the issues I've spoken about here are still relevant. Here's some Day 3 thoughts:
  • I can't stand the notch. It's hideous. It's annoying. It's terrible. Looking at the outline of the rounded corners that curve into the notch, where the notch has rounded corners... what an absolutely terrible design in terms of this being part of a screen. Horrible. Stupid. It's absurd. And it wrecks the usability of the phone in a fundamental way. Imagine if your TV had the same forehead notch design as the iPhone X, and with super rounded corners on each side of the TV. Just imagine that for a minute... I know Apple needs to house sensors so they're forced to have some kind of bezel, but as we can see on other phones like the Note 8, another choice is to have significantly reduced size bezels on the forehead and chin with good balance.
  • Cropped images are forced full screen and disrupted by the notch. So I learned this last night, and if anyone has any solutions, I'm all notch ears. I took a photo of some friends using portrait mode. I cropped it. And when I saved it and looked at it, it takes up the whole screen and the notch obviously in that case covers up part of the photo at the top (just so happens to cover one person's head partially). I just took a regular photo right now in portrait orientation of a window. I cropped it, and same thing: it's full screen where the notch covers part of the photo. This is terrible. This is so flawed I can't even... I'm at a loss...
  • I hate the aspect ratio and usable screen real estate of the phone. This part isn't getting any better. It's a big downgrade over the iPhone Plus. The notch, coupled with how bloody rounded the corners are and the safe zones makes this phone have much less usable screen area than people were led to believe. And I'm finding content is jarring down and around the rounded corners (e.g., when scrolling an article on the Web).
  • This phone is terribly overpriced. Pretty simple. Ridiculous.
  • Severely letterboxed video. Still haven't figured out why this happens, but one video on YouTube was laughably letterboxed all around. Video so far is very hit or miss on this.
  • Hate Control Center access. Lots of people have posted about this. Nough said.
  • No band information in the status bar. So the status bar DOES NOT SHOW LTE, 3G, or even carrier information. If and only if I don't have wifi turned on, it will show the band (LTE, 3G...).

The iPhone X is fast, I like the home gesture, but with so many issues, I'm very close to taking it back. Will continue to use it...

Few games I've played, the notch has really annoyed me. It's fine for most things , though games... hmmm . Even using garage band, covers over of the keys on the piano ! :(

Ok I didn’t know that, thanks!

I ended up going back to my 7 plus .. might pick up an 8 plus and just hold out until the X plus next year

Should of made a plus size model. Or atleast 6inch a tad wider it been perfect. I’m sure the notch will get smaller in the years tocome or put under the display. A plus size phone would been killer.

If I’m laying on the couch Face ID doesn’t work well sideways or on an angle for me. Touch ID to me is more versatile. I never said in my post that Face ID was bad but I prefer Touch because it’s more versatile. But I do like Face in certain instances.

I have no problems using it whilst lying on the sofa, bed or anywhere else. Strange you’ve got that behaviour. For me it’s a clearly superior and much better technology. It’s not even close. TouchID failed daily for me even if I re-registered fingers. I’ve had iPhone X since Friday at 08:30 and it still hasn’t failed even once.

There’s no contest.

Apple pride themselves on lateral thinking "think different" so why have they not "wow'd" is with their innovative use of the notched area like 1 tap volume or time code during a video etc? Why aren't there different levels of zoom or notched mode, or even notchless?
There does not seem to be a great deal of thought around how to make it less intrusive to use (less to to make it useful!) and that is disappointing. I know it is mostly solvable with software tweaks, hopefully they will make it better soon!

I like the X but I’m not in awe like ‘holy crap this is frickin awesome’. I like my Pixel 2 just as much. But the hardware of the X is premium. I kind of like the utilitarian of the Pixel 2.

Maybe with a software update they can include Touch ID with no home button? Don’t know.
..

Mate, you are a legend! This has got to be the quote of the weekend!

You remind me of an ex who once disposed of our leftover Turkey (bones and all) into the garbage disposer and wondered why it broke!

Actually they can put a button like how other Android phones have. It’s not a physical button.

Agree, the pixel 2 is good, great from a utility and software perspective but its build quality is lacking in many areas. X seems well built but is lacking in software/OS to make the experience more conducive.
