How about you do some research?
This was done by someone on purpose of getting the paint of. This guy bought a silver and space grey and scuffed them up as badly as he could.

You and other websites shouldn't just take pics from something a chinese guy posted without you even doing the effort to translate the chinese wall of text he added on to it explaining what he did to his phone.

here's a pic of what he did to the other side of his phone:

OP seems like a typical iphone X hater
He used that filthy nail to remove the grey finish
Lol

For a $1,000+ device, I don't think (and hope) this would be a widespread issue. At least my SG X has not shown any signs of flaking. I do not have a case on it and I generally take care of my iDevices.

The paint has flaked off. Whether it's from abuse, intentional, or otherwise, that's what the photos show. They don't show that the paint is scuffed. They don't show that the paint is imperfect. They show that chunks of the paint have FLAKED OFF.

The bottom line is this: whatever the cause, the finish has flaked off, leaving parts of the finish intact. A chunk has come off, and other bits down by the speakers have flaked off. What's revealed underneath is slick stainless steel totally intact.

There's no point in making excuses for Apple. iPhones are extremely delicate and not durable. This is nothing new. But it's something that bothers me as a customer. I want more durable products. These are far too delicate. If the surface of these are prone to flaking, then it will suck, just like the Titanium PowerBooks.

For the record:
  • I have never stated that this is a widespread problem.
  • I have never stated that I fully believe what's in the article. However, I don't disbelieve it either, since I have no evidence to support that.
  • I have never stated that I know the root cause of the paint flaking in the photos/article, just that the paint has flaked off.

No it hasn't. This is intentional. No flaking has occurred. Someone intentionally scuffed, scratched and marred the phones to see what it would take.

Non issue. Move along.

Yes, it did flake off. If you actually read this thread, you would see that at no time have I ever made a statement as to what the root cause of the finish flaking off is. Because I don't know, and neither do you. Because we don't have the evidence.

China-gate?
yeah you're pretty much asking for trouble if you point to a one off post on a chinese website and add gate to the thread title.

Where are all the “Glad I went with silver” comments lol. I had the series 2 space black SS and never experienced this. I believe this is blowing out of proportion.

It's why I preferred silver X again. Silver also looks nice from a distance while the space gray could fool for any other Android phone if the displays were off. I could care less looking at the rear side of phones. Only with girls. ;)

I love these articles!

Like seriously, if you don't want scratches, dings, bending, cracks, etc,
Put your phone in a dam case and call it a day! The internet is becoming a breeding ground for people who just severely lack common sense.

The phones been out for what? 2 weeks! Those devices look like they were thrown in the washing machine. These aren't Samsung Actives, these are honestly delicate devices that yes if you drop it without a case, your screwed!

That phone looks abused, I highly doubt the owner woke up and grabbed his phone and hey what's this...oh man, I got Space Gray on my hand! Come one already!
