Not the OP, but I've had two iPhone 8s with dents so far. I took a photo of one of the phones - shows 3 tiny dents along the top, above the flash.

I wouldn't be happy with those dents... tiny or not, it should be dent free period.

Return it to Apple and get a new one. And no, you aren't the first to ever have that type of problem. Many people have over the years. When products are massed produced in the millions, accidents happen. Not a big deal.
Very true. I had a Lean Pocket the other day and the sucker sure was lean, it had NO filling inside!! None, nada, zilch! Weirdest thing ever lol

There are facts and there are emotions.

Facts:
- Apple has the highest customer sat in the industry. Hence QC must also be excellent because bad QC would certainly affect customer sat.
- Apple pays way better than average wages in China and audits working conditions much more than any other company producing there or anywhere else that’s comparable.
- In industrial mass production, there is no such thing as perfection. You will always have a certain amount of manufacturing issues, especially when your standards are sky-high and tolerances super-low like Apple‘s are. The build quality of the iPhone X, for a mass-produced item, is simply insane. Apple Watch as well. No-one else is even close.

Emotions:
- You have (allegedly) had 3 manufacturing issues with iPhones in a row and are angry. Which, if your story is true, is understandable, but as a data point on Apple‘s QC is absolutely meaningless. Personally I‘m on my 8th iPhone now and never had a single issue with any of them. Another meaningless, anecdotal data point.

Here are three pics of the last one I received. The other two are already sent back. The dent is not big but very noticeable if you look at the phone.

Well, you remember “scratchgate” on iPhone 5? You must have skipped that otherwise there is no way you didn’t have a problem with it. Honestly, the only two iPhones that were perfect on first try for me were 5s and 6s. My 4 had a faulty home button. The 6 had strange display problems with dark corners, the 7 had static noise in video recordings. My first 8 Plus also had a dent in the frame. Second one was perfect though.

But iPhone X, the most expensive one of all iPhones, has poorest QC of all of them.

I had a silver iPhone 5, the „scratchgate“ was about the slate one only. Also, that was the only „gate“ that really concerned a high number of iPhones.

Again, you have no way of knowing that the X has „poor QC“, no matter how often you repeat that line. You are just a single data point in millions and millions of sales; extrapolating from that is just very unreasonable.

Btw your long line of alleged defects of prior iPhones makes your story even stranger. Either you‘re an extreme nit-picker or you have incredible bad luck.

Of course, my story is strange ... No! There are many similar stories here. This is no exception.

I myself am one who has extremely bad luck with Apple products. Every single one I have purchased had issues from speakers(both iPad2 and iphone5) to my 6plus cloud not working, and several issues in between and included my MacBook Pro. Not entirely sure why I keep buying them and I know it is my ****** luck with great products. I am hoping like heck I have no issues with my X whenever the heck it gets here.

You should make a Genius appointment, so that you can get your iCloud backup fixed.

I always check any device I order from apple out of the box in different lights, and for all Quality Control matters. And sometimes I get 2 of an item because it's not unlikely one of them will have an issue.

I bought my X on Sunday, opened the box and inspected it, but without removing the protective film. I was going to install a screen protector and case when I reached home, but work duties prevented that until last night.
I removed the film, and noticed a 'ghost image' in the rear center glass area by the apple logo.
I tried wiping it with a microfiber cloth, and I also tried a very small amount of screen cleansing spray that I use for my tv and computer screen, but to no avail. It seems like if the oleophobic coating was not allowed to cure properly during the process of assembly.
I returned it yesterday, with neither a question as to why I was returning. The apple employee was very unprofessional.

Do they put an oleo-phobic coating in the back of the phone?
I thought it was only on the front screen.

bad luck. I probably have defects; never really looked. As long as it does what I want and doesn't come apart, and there's nothing really bad, I don't see the point. If you desire to get your money's worth, well that will never happen.

I could possibly be incorrect. I'm just going on assumption being the the back of the phone does prevent fingerprints IMO as the screen. I've tried to research this, but have not found anything conclusive, so my apologies if I am mistaken in my original assumption.

I understand your point.
But if I'm going to pay premium for a product that is produced by one of the most valuable companies in today's world, I would dare to think that their QC would be 'acceptable'.
I acknowledge that this product is mass produced, so there are going to be 'hiccups', so to speak.

Yes, I dont think they put the coating in the back of the phone but from the pic it does look like it has a mark in the rear near the Apple logo.
Maybe it got scrapped or its a defect during assembly.
I'd bring it back.

As the title says I received my second iPhone X with a small dent in the metal frame. The first one had a dent in the frame in the back of the phone. The new one has a little dent on the left side on the front of the phone. Am I the only one with such bad luck? The device is 1300€ in Germany and it came damaged out of the box in two of three orders. The third had a speck of dust in the camera.
What is wrong with Apple? Has anyone else having received a damaged iPhone X?
I had some cosmetic issues with iPhone 8 but with iPhone X I did not find any cosmetic issues or any hardware issue.

You Sir are Apples dream customer. Pay full price, expect "just ok, it works". Apple shows on keynotes in long videos how extremely tasty the device materials look, how well everything is built and bla. And when you open the box your premium built device has dents, shadows on the back, scratches on the screen etc. For me this is not acceptable.

And then for the 1300€ I have the hassle of returning, being on the telephone with Apple for an hour or longer, wait AGAIN due to limited supplies and so on.

If you can wait a month or so when demand get less than the quality control will automatically improve. Right now they must be making really fast. So it’s best for you to wait a little.

The theory exists on a tech forum that some choose to wait to purchase their devices later on after the initial rush for a newly released product, which they believe they receive a better manufactured device that will have less issues because production slows down. I'm not opposed to not necessarily believing that, but I also have not had any issues with launch day devices either.
