Someone asked for a real calendar.
So I agree, if possible, can you implement a mini calendar instead of the current "slot machine" selector style calendar (while still having "today, tomorrow, next week")
or if that's not possible/too bulky
then how abut this:
If it's on August | 31 | 2008
and you change the 31 to 01, it will also change the August to September...?

My minor problem is that if I need to set a due date that I know is a week next thursday, I need to figure out what the date is today (difficult for me - you over 40's may empathize) and then add whatever the number of days, and god forbid it crosses a month boundary..A calendar pop-up would work...

Hey all!
Not sure if anyone is interested, but since the dev is doing so much I thought I'd jump in and try to help or inspire. I've a bit of experience in UI and design (and UI design!) so thought I'd use that to aid the dev.

I've spent the last few hours creating an overhaul of the UI. It's in keeping with what is already there, but (I think) makes it a bit easier to organise yourself and to manage organising yourself. I've also incorporated a way to add tasks and notes using iProcrastinate, as well as an Overview of the day.
I think it looks a lil prettier, but then I'll let you guys decide.

If you'd like me to post it here I can?
Just to make it clear: This is a mockup of a new UI for iProcrastinate that I hope the developer would take into consideration.

I also have a way for him (the dev) to create TWO apps out of iProcrastinate. A simple way to streamline the app for its userbase (I noticed that we have students and non-students here), whilst keeping the apps functions the same.

See you here in a few hours if you want to see.

I'd be interested in seeing what you have.

However, two apps is a bad idea in my opinion.
1 app with a Student on/off is a simple solution.

Grades

I would like to elaborate on the addition of the ability to add grades. You might have heard of an app called Schoolhouse; I have been using it for over a year now to keep track of my assignments and grades. Unfortunately the developer has not updated the app in over a year, and I doubt he ever will. It no longer works on Leopard without running it in the dreaded Rosetta mode. I much prefer iProcrastinate at this point, but there is one thing keeping me from fully adopting it -- the lack of weighted grading. If *weighted* grading could be implemented into the app, that would be great. Weighted grading is important because H.W., for example, may only account for 10% of my class grade, but a final may account for 50%, as I'm sure you all know. The way I would like to use iProcrastinate would be to add all of my assignments, quizzes, tests, etc. from my class syllabuses at the beginning of the quarter, and check them off as I go, adding grades as applicable.

hey guys,
This kind of sucks, since I'm posting hours later than I had planned to and that I'm not even posting what I said I was going to.

I'm going to get in touch with the guy who makes this because I feel that letting these out of the gate without trying to make something out of them would be a shame. I'm very fond of the mock ups and really think it is the way forward (or something very similar) for iProcrastinate.

I'll keep this updated though. Hopefully this will lead to an improved app for all!

Wow, PLEASE show me what you have in mind. It's exciting me already! I'm actually surprised that the gist from my earlier post (the student vs non-students) got somewhere further.. I totally support the creation of two apps. But anyway, it's really great that someone is willing to help out the dev; kudos to both of you!

Well, I think it's quite obvious that it's an app made for students (icon, classes, name etc), but from this forum and the reviews on the iTunes app store, it's pretty obvious that a lot of people use it as their preferred To Do planner. So I thought why not incorporate that into the whole app? I've contacted the dev, and am hoping to hear from him soon.
Thanks for the support.

Yes I use it for a To Do Planner as well.... and love it!

I also would love to see it also! I also support the creation of two apps! Thanks so much guys!

WOW! I have been using this app since just before school started so that I would know how to use it when it did start and I first liked it cause it was free then I fell in love with the smart groups (not sure if that is that name of them) and now that I read this thread there will be an app to sync to the desktop!!! Awesome!!!

Thanks to the Developer for an app that is free and very useful!

Although I've done it before, I wanted to extend my thanks for the creation of this app. I can honestly say that it is the most useful on my iPhone. Now that college has started, I've learned to truly appreciate it.

Keep up the good work.

UI Overhaul.

I've decided to post the images. Do you guys want them here, or in a new thread (since this one is rather lengthy?).
First reply to this is what I'll follow...

This could be a great way of doing it, thought the home screen icon would have to be a general icon, as opposed to icons that are aimed at a specific type of user (student/non-student).

i favor 179202

since i don't go to school though... i'd rather place class with events, night out or something of the like, you know? maybe there should be a settings option for "student or full-time employee" so you get a different kind of options

i don't need class nor assignments...

just a suggestion.

amazing

the new layout/design looks amazing. I really like how different aspects of the app are sorted and spread on the bottom for quick access to the separate sections...

just a quick question about the grades, what happens if the grades aren't weighted? for example, high schools go along using a point system.

the most common point system is simply this: a quiz is worth 40 points, and a homework assignment is worth 10 points, with which the student recieves 38/40 on the quiz and 5/10 points on the hw assignment. The numerators of the two grades (the total points earned) would be added and would be divided by the sum of the denomenators (the total possible points). Thus, the students final grade would be (38+5)/(40+10) = 43/50 = 86%

is adding the ability to calculate grades using another system too much?

In my description (that big load of text), I described how it could be made into two apps with exactly the same function, but with that 'Classes' icon changed to something else such as Events or Work. Someone else made the great suggestion of simply having a 'student - on/off switch'. the difference would be the icon on your home screen...
Which begs the question - would you prefer an app with a on/off switch to change that icon, or an app with a specific home screen icon/name (such as 'iTask', 'iEvents' or 'iPlan')?

Personally, I'd prefer the two apps, since I'm a very pedantic person.

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE:
Look above again, I've just spent a little while improving the 'Overview' screen.

button switch, having 2 of the same apps is rather redundant. (plus you'll get to the top list faster)

Yeah, that's true (about getting to the top of the list). It was only a suggestion, and I haven't designed anything around that idea, so all is good.
