Frankly - one must be a true collector or dedicated hobbyist to invest all the time for evaluating, importing, categorizing and archiving so many CD's. Sure - importing and categorizing can be taken care of by iTunes, but one may end up with a cluttered category structure and lots of songs that won't be more than nominal database entries. And even then it still takes time to swap all that CD's...Many USA libraries have huge cd stacks. If copying thousands of cd's for free across the country is not happening as we speak I would be surprised.

with 100,000 plus cd quality songs on the nas. the nas can fit 2x 3tb hdds in raid0 which is about 5000 to 7000 cd's of lossless quality.
I do own some 200-300 CD's myself, but i found i'm not really purchasing music anymore (except for that occasional track or album from iTunes, when i'm _really_ interested).
Radio (be it FM or IP-based) does satisfy about 80% of my music needs and the rest is taken care of by my existing library. Admitted - i also don't sit down anymore to really _listen_ to and enjoy good music via my HiFi system as i used to do in former times. It has become a commodity mainly playing in the background. So maybe i'm no measure here, but it still makes me wonder...
