What's the fan noise like on these bad boys? Looking at getting a server to set up full time for Logic production, getting so sick of my 15" Quad core spinning up its fan anytime something remotely consuming happens. It's a beast for sure but the noise is draining and makes it really hard to hear over my monitors at times, even with it sitting under my desk.

But yeah I really want an Ivy bridge mini for noise reduction, no point going to the current server as my mbp is more powerful than it (early '11 2.2ghz). Plus its probably just as likely to spin up the fan

Ok

Apple better be updating the Mini and iMac's upcoming event. I put my 2010 model Mini up for sale today and it's probably gonna get picked up tomorrow already :(

Good news is i'm still fetching 475 Euro's for it. Base model and upgraded RAM (8GB)

Now this is what i like to see next wednesday

New Mini with:

Ivy Bridge i5 or i7
HD 4000
USB 3.0
A Proper SDXC card Slot (i want my 64GB SDXC card to work)
8Gb Standard (or atleast user upgradable)
500GB harddisk (or SSD option)
Bluetooth 4.0
Ow and if it's not too much trouble one of those new type of fans like in the Air and rMBP

And for the low low price of 599 euro's

Come on Apple bring me my new Mini.

It slowly starts to get tiring. I mean how long do we wait for the new Mini now? Since march? Ivy Bridge is now old, and I don't know many PC vendors that haven't updated their most important line-ups until now.

And when it comes, I bet it won't be as great as most of us hope it will. Once again, I wish for a Quad-Core i7 CPU (i7-3612qm) with a capable GPU (GT 540M at least) with 512 MB VRAM or more. Totally possible to build for under 800, and easy to offer for 900 (as Apple may want), but I feel they won't ...

IMHO it's much more probable they are sticking Dual-Cores into both models again, letting alone the server with the i7-3610/3615qm and no discrete GPU at all. That's too bad, as the Mini would be the ultimate computer in it's form factor otherwise.

As for the time, I don't think they'll update it on September 12th, as this event will be only for iOS 6, the iPhone 5 and the last minute for the iPod line. Maybe as a silent update the same day? Probably not. I'd say sometimes in october, but we'll see.

You'll never know. Until they are here.

The Mini is the type of Apple device which gathers no serious attention in press or public, so it is just THERE and done. It could appear in 2 minutes' time or 2 years' time. Many believed it would have appeared in April-May-June-July-August with the release of the new processors a few months ago.

Nothing.

They might slip into the store with the September 12th release. They might show up somewhere after. No one knows. I wouldn't be surprised if they appear next March or April.

Well said. As the current iMac rumor suggests, it could well be that the Mini will be updated at the same time. Or not. Apple is just too unpredictable when it comes to their "not so important" product lines, and the Mini is certainly the Mac with the least sales (except the Mac Pro).

Sorry guys No more mac mini in future !

Unfortunately I have to say no more mac mini in future Sad !!!

What are the real facts with regard to Mini sales? Some say it is a bad seller others claim it is the best selling. What are the facts, is this info available?

Sad Sad Sad !!!

Friend of mine, former Apple employee said No more mac mini in the future !!! no even pilot project for next mac mini Finito !!!

They don't tell current employees, I'm sure they would tell former employees.

Yeah, just lets cancel the only cheap Mac out there, so nobody without a ******** of money will be able to buy a Mac. Let's just say "Hey, we are Apple, if you don't have 1000, go away!".

Honestly, it simply wouldn't make sense to discontinue the only real Mac desktop (the Mac Pro is out of budget for most anyways) anytime soon.

Here's my prediction: a quiet launch for an updated Mini, complete with Ivy Bridge support, a slightly beefier GPU (possibly the current iMac Radeon HD 6750M or a newer Nvidia GPU), Intel HD 4000 for the entry level), 2 Thunderbolt ports, dropped firewire support, 320GB hybrid drive standard with SSD upgrades up to 512GB (as with the new iMac coming as well), USB 3.0, 4GB RAM standard (not soldered) upgradeable to 16GB from Apple, and a slightly slimmer profile.

Soldered RAM and non-upgradeable hard drive (ala iMac) would force me to look elsewhere to replace my pos PC.

It never ceases to surprise me how much people are willing to spend on a 2 year old machine... I just picked up a new Mac Mini last week for 499 euros. Cost me 40 euros extra to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB. Whoever is buying your mac really didn't do their homework!
I decided to bite the bullit despite the chance of a new model for a great home theatre machine. Couldn't be happier!

your statement disregards the desirable dvd/cd player in the 2010 mac mini.

plus the 2010 mini plays snow lion or mountain lion without hacks.

your 2011 machine may be better for you because you don't have 1000 plus cd collection that you want to put on a mini.

If a person can access a big cd collection for free the 2010 mac mini is a very valuable machine. many people would say just buy the new machine and a dvd player.
that is true but if you have a snow osx program and they are out there you need to hack the 2011 to play it. this is why the base 2010 mini holds amazing resale price.

It sells on ebay in the usa for 600usd with one mod 8gb ram and it must have some warranty left. It stays in stock for minutes on the apple refurb store.

Like the philipma said, the argument of the person who bought my mini was also the optical unit.

He wanted a fullblown HTPC unit and found it stupid to buy the new one with a separate on USB connected optical drive. He wanted everything to be inside one machine. So he did do his homework.

And quite frankly i agree with him. I'm gonna miss my optical unit now, cause the Mini was hosting the iTunes library and my old crappy car radio cant read MP3 disc nor has a SD card or USB connector

And again, you just spend 499 on a (hardware level) one year old machine, which soon will be followed up by the 2012 model. But again you are happy also. As am i now, i made myself the decision to wait for the new model to arrive. As i did with the MBA 2012. As the new Mini drops i'd be happy as a clam with my USB3.0 ports and even more powerful onboard graphics and even a more energy efficient and silent Ivy Bridge CPU.

Just need to figure out what type of RAM they gonna use in the new ones, probably gonna be the 1600Mhz DDR3 ones. Am planning to upgrade to 16Gb right from the start.

So now i have to find a replacement for my Asus notebook (was on the list on replacing anyhow) but it's probably gonna be a MBP now because of the ability to write cd's

Or i could get a MBA and a cheapass new car stereo which DOES have a USB connector.

Many USA libraries have huge cd stacks. If copying thousands of cd's for free across the country is not happening as we speak I would be surprised.

Also that little mac mini.

A synology nas in your basement spare room etc

With this dac/amp

is a small setup that can give outstanding sound. with 100,000 plus cd quality songs on the nas. the nas can fit 2x 3tb hdds in raid0 which is about 5000 to 7000 cd's of lossless quality.

Like the philipma said, the argument of the person who bought my mini was also the optical unit.

The ironic thing about that is the optical drive is very likely to be the first hardware casualty if it has been used to rip a lot of CDs... The optical drives used in Apple computers are mainly plastic and not very well made. I've had them fail with minimal use. If the optical drive is in an iMac or portable Mac it can be expensive to have repaired and it isn't easy to replace yourself.

I much prefer an inexpensive external drive that can just be tossed if it gives up the ghost. There are optical drives on Amazon with good reviews that go for around $40.

I'm waiting for the 2012 Mini. I've ripped most of my 750+ CD collection. Now that I have a Spotify subscription I doubt that I will ever buy another CD. If I want very good quality I play a CD on my living room audio system. But at 58 the realities of normal changes in hearing mean I don't need to always need music playing at the highest possible quality. And many people don't notice the difference if a CD is ripped at 256kbps AAC or higher anyway.

I just hope that the predictions about Firewire being dropped is inaccurate but I'll adapt if it turns out to be the case...

If it is old enough to still have a tape slot, you can get a cheap adapter in cassette form which connects to the stereo jack on the MP3 player of your choice.
