Maybe just my area, but seeing long delays in mini shipments on the midrange version, and anything not stock, around the 15-17th of October. Seems like quite a wait for just adding memory....

Add memory at home. The current minis have made it extremely easy. The low price and prolific availability of aftermarket ram also lend themselves to the DIY crowd.

I notice that Amazon supplies are fairly constrained - the base model is in stock, but the mid-range shows 2-5 week delivery times, and the server says "only 16 left in stock".

Is this the usual case for minis? I, like so many here, am frustrated by my current mini's (2010) capability, but am trying to hold out until a newer version arrives (until the frustration to perceived gains ratio becomes intolerable!).

Mini's product shortages?

Not usually this constrained. Most stores in LA, OC area out of the mid-range and server till the 15-17th, and many don't get the base model back in till the 11th. Shipments times direct to customer are also 15-17th. Might be new products, but not getting my hopes up....

Something's up... Amazon doesn't have any in stock (2-5 weeks). Newegg is out of the 2.5Ghz mini, but not 2.3 or server (they had all 3 yesterday). Bestbuy is out of the 2.3 online (they weren't yesterday) / you can't even order it to ship now. They still have 2.5 available to ship, but only 1 store shows up as having it in stock in my area... All of them are still "in stock" at Apple though

Apple Stock

Apple shows in stock till you place an order, then ship times and in store pickup times change to 15th-17th, in my area at least, my guess is new product next week around those dates.....

Let us hope. (Please, Apple, don't dash our hopes upon the rocks!)

I am bidding on a Mac mini server on Rbay. If I don't win it, I'm waiting till the 17th.

Guess Apple remodelled the MacMini aluminium plant temporarily to make extra iPhone shells. They care sht about the Mini, so people can wait a little longer to receive one.

I think he means that Apple are using the factory which usually produces mac mini cases to make iPhone shells instead :)

That wouldn't be cool.

Personally I think that Apple's portables (excluding laptops) are of lower quality than their computers. Yet they get more hype and--at this point--probably produce greater revenue. Bah.

Yeah. I just picked up a macmini server 2011 for $870.
I picked up the 2.3 Mini last night - open box from BB. Saved $60 off normal retail price... Already got the Corsair 8GB memory kit in the mail. :) It's my first Mac, so it should be fun / interesting.

I just got a "market research" email from Apple regarding my Mac Mini. So I took the survey on Apple's site and made it very clear that I want to buy more Mac Minis in the future.

Thats interesting. How recently did you purchase your Mini?

Late spring of this year. I purchased a refurb. Here's a screenshot of the email (from macresearch@apple.com). Maybe this is a new thing for Apple to do?

A lot of questions about what kind of industry I work in, primary usage of my computer (i.e. work, home), and then the last question was just a comments box.

What's cool is the survey asked questions based on previous answers. I indicated that I purchased the server model, then the next question focused on what factors were in my decision to purchase the server (e.g. more HD space, faster CPU).

This, to me is an indication they are just now looking at the mac mini refresh. And we probably won't see a new one until early next year at the earliest.

Could still be a speed bump in the meantime. This survey could be for a future refresh where they might be trying to decide whether to do quad core plus good graphics card. I am sure they could always use data to help them to decide where to draw the line between mini and mac pro performance. There is definitely a market for a more powerful mini that probably would not take away mac pro sales due to expansion, etc.

Mini before Christmas

I am in the market for a mini before Christmas as I am buying one for my daughter. Having purchased an iPad 3 and iPhone 5 I have been converted. Also waiting on a new iMac for myself. Looks like I could have picked a better time to convert as I have been waiting since spring on the iMac and I gt the Ipad to tide me over.

Whilst I have a month of so to order the mini I will be realy hacked off I get the current model and then just after Christmas out comes an updated ivy bridge number, as there is no reason whatsoever for them to not do this now. I will be getting the mid mini with graphics card probably, but I might just get the base model if it is updated with ivy.

Anyway....the wait continues!

I've got this strange feeling that Apple feels stuck with both the Mini and the Mac Pro as relics of an age gone by(at least to them). I can foresee system "units" based on CPU, GPU or storage. Cube 2.0 if you will that are stackable/expandable via Lightning ports. Buy a base Mini unit. Expand as necessary. Need a NAS? Then add on the storage cubes. Graphic/CAD artist or need GPU processing? Add on a graphics cube. Or mix and match all you want. Need a cheap/poor man's cpu "cluster" then that can be done too. I'd also expect to see auxillary uses for ARM chips since Apple is pretty much committed to their own implementations now as well.

probably not

Yeah, you're probably right. We'll just keep waiting because Ivy Bridge is so hard to implement. Obviously everybody else rolled out the new processors incorrectly. :D

I think between the iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPod touch, iPad mini ans iMac refresh, they simpy don't have the production resources to also focus on the Mac mini line.
