I think I’m going to give it another 5-10 years of no wide spread exploding batteries before it’s a legitimate option again.

I’m pretty much team iPhone all the way now, but I used to always look at the competitor.
Well good news. We're already in your time window. 😁

Totally cool about staying team Apple. They make awesome products. The Galaxy Note 7 was unfortunate but more than enough time has passed without Samsung having major QC issues where bringing that up is irrelevant at this point.

it's completely not worth it. but i am keeping it. The phone does feel snappier and i like it being a bit lighter. I take the bait every year and upgrade. was there anything wrong with my 14pro max .. nope but i just need the latest and greatest. I always have remorse but it fades lol.

This… there is no reason to “upgrade” from a 14 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max like I did as well other than it’s a want not a need.

Iterative update for sure, but the sum of all the small improvements leaves me impressed with the 15 PM. No desire to return it.

For me, the 15 Pro Max is a keeper.

1. Love the natural titanium color. And the weight difference is drastic, along with less fingerprinty edges.
2. I've used the 5x camera more in the past few days than I ever used the 3x. The tradeoff of zoom just wasn't worth it to not use the main camera IMO.
3. Action button to launch camera is great, I just wish I could remove the lock screen swipe gesture and change the camera slide up button to something else. Maybe next year
4. USB-C! Being able to see what data is on a drive or SD card using an adapter I already have on hand, plugging into charge on the same cable. And even being able to plug in HDMI without having a very specific single use dongle just for iPhone.
5. 80% max charge option. As a developer, this is amazing as my phone is often plugged in at my desk. This should be added to all iPhones...

Yet people still rave about Apple build quality. I've never had a Samsung phone or tablet have any flaw whatsoever. No dust behind the screen or camera. No blue or yellow displays. No dead pixels. No loose buttons. Just perfect build and QC every time.
Well if we’re being fair and honest, Samsung doesn’t build ANY device with the production numbers of the iPhone. It’s just simply a statistical reality that for millions of devices made, there will be some affected by production or parts defects. The overwhelming vast majority of users never has issues.

Still happened and was very serious at the time. It stopped me from buying Samsung phones ever again and never looked back.

That was 7 years ago. They certainly have a better track record since then than Apple does. The 15s, getting hot, poor cellular signal, easily scratching, blotchy colors, and Apple Watch, with non-working complications. It has not been a good release for Apple this year.

Samsung shipped 64 million phones vs Apple's 49 in Q3 2022, the latest number I could find. Xiaomi was 3rd with 40.

Yes, and Samsung makes numerous models of its phones, as does Xiaomi. Apple makes 5. Overwhelming majority are Pros.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. In fact, Samsung has the harder job, because they have to engineer many different designs and more different parts.

Because they’re not making any single model to the same volume as Apple, making it more statistically likely there will be issues with some iPhones. I would bet my 15PM that Samsung/Android forums have multiple threads of people discussing issues with their Samsung phones. People pretend that production issues are exclusive to Apple now or that Apple is somehow worse than the others.

Furthermore, people complain about the cost of iPhones there should be no issues. However, we can’t say Apple is the most expensive brand anymore. That’s not true at all, especially compared to the Samsung flagships. And I know for a fact there are issues with Samsungs, especially foldables.

Silly reasoning. Lithium battery issues are not brand specific. Apple has had similar issues dating back to the iPhone 6. Neither was widespread enough for the average user to have to worry about. The only reason that Samsung Note made headlines is because it happened to someone while on a plane. I had that phone & had absolutely zero issues.

I am sad to say, but I am close to hitting the return button. I came from a 12 Pro to a 15 Pro. Yes, the battery is better than my 3 year old 12, but that's obvious. And the camera is better, but I really do not feel much of a change using this compared to my 12. Still on the fence and within the return window, but I am thinking I might splurge on a new battery for my 12 and sit it out like many are until the 16 :-/

I thought it was totally worth it and so does my husband. The displays on both of our phones look crisper and clearer than our 14PM displays. I thought the camera worked better in low light portraits and had better color in the few photos I was able to take so far. I love the lighter feel, too. Battery life was improved, as well,at least in the Pro Max.

Unfortunately I have to return mine because the display gives me eye fatigue and headaches. But I'm a rare case and this isn't an issue for most people. If it weren't for this, I'd happily keep it. I think it's fantastic and I envy everyone who is able to keep theirs.

What’s different between the 14PM and the 15PM that the former didn’t cause you eye fatigue, but the latter does?

Sounds like it was faulty. You probably could've just asked for a replacement but this soon after launch you're quite entitled to a refund. I'd have just got a replacement or even get a refund then buy it again... maybe wait a month but you probably don't need to do that.

My original M1 iPad was randomly crashing/rebooting and it was kernel panics. I only mention it because the issue you had reminded me of it. I take it you didn't look at the crash logs? You don't need to be an expert to understand it. If it was kernel panics then you just look for "panic". At least that's all that guy at Apple did to diagnose it for me.

What you going to do now?

I wanted an exchange, but they have no stock anywhere. I have to order another one online and eta is Oct 25- Nov 1. Hopefully the second batch will be better

Asides from random crash and reboot, the phone would also freeze spontaneously while in an app. Or random apps cannot be open, but all other functions still works. One time the screen turned black with a spinning star in the center. It wouldn’t respond to any of the button presses, it wouldn’t hard reboot. I then put it on the charger and was able to get the phone to finally respond. I thought battery was low, but no, it still had 70%. The phone was just behaving sporadically.

I am having second thoughts and was curious if anyone else is having remorse for upgrading.

Not remorse. Bought both the Plus and the Max. Keeping the Plus. Nothing to do with money (they're both expensive). It's all about weight and portability.

The 15 Max is lighter than the 14 Max, but that's like saying a brick is lighter than a cinderblock. They're both heavy, and I don't want to carry or hold either one.

Phone def. looks and feel less premium. No more glossy sides and the less weight just feels less premium and luxurious.

I have a Fold 5 as a second phone, as well as a 15 Pro Max. Max is beating Samsung's in problems this year.

And making one kind of phone vs total units is meaningless. Its total sets produced and Samsung os having fewer problems this year and recent years. And I would remind you, its just not the Pro Max model that is having problems. So that shoots down your "one model" theory.

Bought 15 pro for my wife, 15PM for me. Both returned today. Bought them to replace 13’s which lack crash detection. Both phones became pretty warm during charging, almost too warm to hold for PM.

Yes I think you’re missing the point here. Samsung makes no units that sell one to one as well as just the iPhone 15 Pro Max. We’ll use that as an example since that is clearly the most popular iPhone this year. What is Samsung’s flagship? Is it the S23 Ultra, Fold 5? Neither sells remotely close to the volume as the 15 Pro Max. And strictly from a numbers game, the more phones you produce the more likely you are to have defects.

What does the return process look like if you’re using IUP? I think I’m throwing in the towel on my 15PM due to CarPlay turning the phone into a hot baked potato. Maps with CarPlay also not working half the time. Phone gets warm doing literally nothing. I’m fed up doing the guessing for Apple on what might be wrong.

They both caused me problems. I had to go from a 14 Pro Max to a 12 Pro max from the Apple Refurbished store. I knew from a couple of years ago after trying ALL of the 12’s that I could tolerate a 12 Pro Max.

(It was a terrible mistake to upgrade to the 13 Pro but my 12 Pro Max at the time had the infamous green screen defect meaning night scenes in videos glowed green when viewed in dimly lit rooms).

I lasted on the 14 Pro Max for almost six months but the entire time suffered some eye fatigue that eventually developed into ever worsening and persisting headaches as is typical for people who suffer from sensitivities to flickering of various kinds.

This time with the 15 Pro Max I was fortunate that everything happened on an accelerated time scale so I didn’t have a false hope I’d be okay with the phone in the long run, with only mild symptoms.

I use OLED on Android phones usually without issues. There have been a couple of phones that made me uncomfortable but by and large I’m able to use them normally.

For some reason both LCD iPhones and OLED iPhones tend to cause me problems.

Even my 12 Pro Max can get uncomfortable to use too much. If I want to web surf I usually use my Samsung S22 Ultra which has my most comfortable completely unproblematic display I have owned since the iPhone 8 Plus.

You're one-phone volume sales still doesn't mean anything. And again, its not just the Pro Max having problems.
