Again, I will never forget the 20-year old kid back in 2014 in my job next to me who didn't know what the hell a Sony Walkman was. Born 1994, the only portable music players we probably knows are iPods. And I have a second cousin who is younger who didn't know what an iPod from an iPhone either! Just like a generation that never saw Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant play and only aware of LeBron or Steph Curry, there is a current generation that isn't aware of Sony's heyday. They only know Apple's current heyday and aren't aware of their past failures. Kids born in the 2010's may also lose familiarity with Apple someday picking their generation of idols and heroes. Apple becomes old like Big Brother, IBM. The changing of the guard.

Yup times always change. I was an Aiwa person back in the day, it had more features than Sony Walkmans.

That does apply to me...i want to be able to use Google Maps as the default navigation app on my iphone. Why? I think it is a better navigation app. Simple as that.

I don't think wanting new features or likes to have things on an iphone should elicit that kind of response from you. Why do you feel threatened by that?

Lets use your own logic to your forum behavior....why do you a self proclaimed Samsung hater participate in every Samsung thread. If you do not like Samsung then don't participate in the Samsung threads......simple. See it works both ways.....

Hate is a strong word. My preference doesn't mean I hate anything. The s7 is a nice device. Addressing the thread though I think it'll take more than just one phone to threaten the iPhone market. It takes time imo. The G5 was intriguing to me as well. Maybe I'm more intrigued by possible accessories with that slot.

Why do you want to use an iPhone then ??? If you want to use Google services, than by all means get an Android. I don't even use Google search so...

But why would you want to use Google photos or Google maps ? With Apple, my data is my data, it's not shred with Apples "partners". I value the privacy.

Have you used the Google Now app on the iPhone ? What's wrong with the default app anyway ?

Because I like the iPhone/ipad for reasons other than apple services and stock apps(the efficiency of the system, updates, longevity of the devices, don't have to troubleshoot wakelocks).

Google services are much better cross platform imo(I will never go all apple because it's just... Too boring, too much tech out there to buy from only one manufacturer).

Privacy concerns aside, google services are just better in general imo (we already know that Apple hands over iCloud backup data so I'm not sure exactly how much better off you are with them WRT cloud security anyway). I'm okay with Googles business model and would prefer not to be nickel and dimed by Apple, the devices themselves are expensive enough as it is for me. I'd rather give Google my analytics and then block their ads :p

Many android fans often say the best google experience (aside from Google now) is on ios!

Google greatly improves my iPhones.

Google Maps always finds the address I'm looking for, Apple maps still has blank areas.

Google Keep notes, is truly outstanding.

Google Drive is another example of great software design and execution

It's a proven fact.

no it is not....... those are just two simple examples. IOS is limited to just one foreground app.

How is it different? Because ios does run multiple apps at the same time but doesnt have split screen, on the phones.

So either its the same thing or iphones also have multitasking. Which is it?

Technically not true on iPads.

There are exceptions with certain apps that Apple deems worthy. Try switching to check your message and your browser session will halt. Android keeps on downloading the page.

Just tried it on my iPhone. It does continue to download. So you are wrong again

Can you get it right. It is not certain apps. It is certain APIs. Any app can use those APIs to continue to work in the background

Its not wholy true on iphone either.

I've often used my iPhone to stream video to my apple TV, then whilst it's doing that I can change whatever app I'm using without affecting the video or audio being streamed to my apple TV such as a game, or other app and all the while the iPhone is continually checking 4 email accounts and downloading emails and attachments, background refreshing and polling apps like Facebook & Twitter and receiving messages from WhatsApp, Messenger or SMS all of which it does at the same time. If I get an SMS I can quick reply which doesn't exit me out of whatever I'm doing on screen or stop video or audio playback which is being streamed in the background ...

Likewise I can use my myzone fitness app and with it syncing with my chest heartrate monitor, I can at same time be streaming audio with Google play music to my headphones and then be reading news articles and such in front. At no point does my audio stop streaming or the myzone fitness app which syncs via Bluetooth to my heartrate sensor stop running in the background, they continue whilst I am reading, checking emails or surfing the net. Again whilst the ios device is still pulling down emails, getting messages pushed / polled and social media updates and notifications.

The idea ios can't run a single background app is nonsense. It's continuously doing a myriad of things in background. It may not offer split screen multitasking or allow apps like torrents etc; but the fallacy of multitasking that is being perpetuated on this sub fora is embarrassing. If you have to prove a point by predicating it on a fallacy, perhaps the point wasn't worth making, or needs to be rethought.

I said I tried it on my iPhone. Web page continued to load.

iPad pro, iPad Air 2 and mini 4 all have split view multitasking, so just not the iPad pro.

It may continue to download if it's a short page. But not if you're downloading a large file or anything that takes a while, iOS will suspend the app.

App Refresh

After you switch to a different app, some apps run for a SHORT PERIOD of time before they're set to a suspended state. Apps that are in a suspended state aren’t actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. With Background App Refresh, suspended apps can check for updates and new content.

If you want suspended apps to check for new content, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn on Background App Refresh. If you quit an app from the app switcher, it might not be able to run or check for new content before you open it again.

That might be the case, but for my purposes, it loads in the background. I just tried more than a dozen sites, switched to another app, waited a bit and came back in. ALL sites were fully loaded. So your original assertion that the site won't load is false.

Of course a normal site will load but not a large file download or anything that takes time.

Yes, large file downloads are an issue which I did mention before, but I was replying to your specific quote of

"browser session will halt. Android keeps on downloading the page."

Note, that you said page and I was sure that wasn't the case, so I tried.

I want to use Google Maps as my default for navigation. IOS won't let me. I have no choice but to use the built in Apple Maps as my default. That is just one example.

I want Android to allow me to voice navigate to an address in my contacts. That will not happen with google maps.

I can, however, ask Siri to navigate to an address in my contacts and it will do it with Maps.

I can even ask Siri to navigate to an address in my contacts and add two words "via transit" and I get to select ANY other navigation app that is on my iPhone to use.

Please tell me how I can do that with Android.

I must say that I'd be thoroughly happy with Apple if they'd simply do their best.

Side by side, over the entire year of 2015, day to day usage my Nexus smartphone was much more stable than my iPhone 6 Plus.

Google Chrome browser never crashed or involuntarily restarted randomly with the message "faulty Web page" like Safari does regularly.

Claiming that an iPhone is far more stable is to make a false statement. Not a single hiccup over an entire year of heavy use is an impressive showing from Google.

Your 6p is a 2015 device. So you should compare it to the 6s plus which fixed the problem you are complaining about with Safari. The 2 gigs of ram fixed a lot of ills with the first phablet Apple ever made. With Apple you should not buy a first generation anything. I am so glad I waited for 6s plus.
