Some people have more of a problem with the solution than the do the problem itself!

I've had my new Max since last Friday... so what is that about 9 days now? Thus far it has continued to perform perfectly. I've not had any cellular or wifi issues. I also have a work iPhone 8+ so it allows me to compare occasionally which I've done. This max is on par and thus far I am pretty happy about it.

I'll never understand having your 2.4GHz and your 5Ghz named the same thing, but hey whatever makes the world go round! Most really good routers make you give it different name by adding the 5Ghz to the end, but clearly some choose to change it to be the same.

So wait, the phone cant distinguish between 2.4 and 5Ghz, so let's rip on people who don't rename their networks. Yea, that's the ticket. Don't blame the phone, let's blame the owners. Never ever blame Apple. You can't fix stupid, but you can make them Apple fans. You're the same guy who probably thought the bumper case was a great solution to the iPhone 4 problem.

Who is blaming anyone... I am just saying that by default most routers when you setup wireless wants to put the 5Ghz behind the name and there is a reason it does that. By default they want you to name them differently. My iPhone Max has no issue distinguishing between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, but that doesn't mean yours can. Most people that had this issue seem to feel it was fixed with the release of 12.01. Nonetheless, time for you to take your heart off your sleeve and quit taking everything so damn personally. In typical fashion because you are butt hurt you are going to call someone stupid. Real mature you are!

No I am the same guy that posted earlier in this thread about my problem Max and the testing that I did and eventually returned it. I did not give Apple a pass and I am not giving them a pass now. I am just a solution driven person that if I can solve a problem by making a small change until the permanent solution comes out then I will. I don't have more of a problem with a temp solution than a do the problem itself.

I dont think you understand what is going on with Wifi issues and it has nothing to do with renaming the SSID for both 2.4 and 5Ghz....

Okay that was the issue I initially had with my iPhone Max, but the new one doesn't have this issue. Can you elaborate what you mean because in reading through the thread I don't see anyone explaining anything different. Perhaps I overlooked it though!

Their issue is the phone will always connect to 2.4Ghz instead of connecting to 5Ghz when 5GHz has the best signal..... You dont have that issue is because you are only connecting to your 5Ghz ONLY. They are connecting to both (thats why the SSID has to be name the same) meaning when they are far away from the router they will connect to 2.4GHz (long distance) . when they are closer they want to connect to 5GHz (better speed) but the phone is refusing to connect...where their other wireless devices not having this issue.

Wow that is about the best explanation I have read. Thank you so much for the clarification! Makes sense to me and I understand why I am not experiencing it! I think because my house and outside my house is so well covered with the 5Ghz, I never needed to worry about 2.4Ghz for range. Hopefully this will be solved very soon! I appreciate it dazz :)

By having the same name, I'll be connected to the faster 5Ghz network when I'm close to the router, but when I go outside into my yard and I get far enough away from the router then it will automagically switch to the 2.4Ghz network which has better range. Otherwise it tends to hang on to the 5Ghz network even if performance has degraded to being almost useless.

Thank you as well, your explanation is in line with dazz and also helpful for everyone to understand exactly what the issue is.

The bumper must have been a great solution. At least it connected my iPhone 4 in low signal areas where my XSM can’t connect to the network.

This is a "problem", because ok, your phone get speed and works "well"? but obviously you hope that your new device get more speed.. because if not, what the hell you pay extra $? if the lte and wifi connection its the same, cameras improvement is only by software.. then you get an X for 300 or 400$ less and thats all. its my opinion of course.

The towers the phone is connected to may not be able to go faster.

Kneezmo - So far loving the X. Only been a couple of days but almost forgot how a phone is just supposed to work.

Some other things that I didn’t really feel were important that I could fix on the Max but actually work fine on the X:

- X connects every time to my earbuds and car. Whereas with the Max every now and again I would have to go through the repairing mode to get Bluetooth to connect. Never paid much attention to or was really bothered by this as it was something I could fix easily.

- I never had the problem with WiFi not picking the 5 as I have them named separately. However, I did notice with the new X that it holds the WiFi way further away. Ie the Max would drop WiFi and cell phone tower booster as soon as I got out of the house, while the X doesn’t drop even at the end of my 300 ft driveway.

Let me be clear, I’m not saying anything about a design flaw or that the 2nd Max was defective. I’m no expert for sure but from my experience the Maxes just didn’t work for me. The genius at Apple did the whole reset and download as new with my first phone and did say that phone had a problem. I let you guys know what they tell me when I return the 2nd one this week.

It’s just crazy that when you tell anyone about the connectivity problem they tell you they’ve never heard of it. Apple, ATT and Best Buy all gave me that surprised look when I told them my story of woe.

They must be trained to do this, I can't say I'm surprised.

In my experience both Apple geniuses acted like this was the first time they heard of it. The first Apple senior adviser I worked with told me they had heard of the problem. The second senior adviser contacting me about my replacement unit also acted like this was the first time she heard of it. When I told her that the official Apple support forums had many posts about the issue across carriers/regions she gave me a blanket response about how it's impossible to tell how legit many posts are (???). I even told her that the first adviser contacted me directly AFTER reading my post on the forum back when I got my first phone at launch. Again I got a canned reply like "oh it's great someone reached out to you, but I still have not heard of this being a problem for users." Again I can't say I'm surprised.

What is more frustrating to me is that they have all my information and all the details from my Apple Case ID, however act like this is all new. Asking me what I have tried and if I had reached out to my carrier. Even when I DIRECTLY tell them that the case should have ALL THE NOTES, they reply back with a "I understand and see some of the notes, but I think we should try XYZ again." You have it in your notes that I have tried every trouble shooting option, installed profiles, sent screenshots/logs/sysdiagnose files, called my carrier, been to the genius bar etc etc. They need to start giving some of us more credit. I did supply a new set of screenshots/sysdiagnose files for my replacement device but again feel like they'll be sent off to engineering and no one will hear anything.

Apple never admit this or other problems.. their reply is "silence".. This week ioS 12.1 beta 5 will be launched. iOS 12.1 final coming early november. What will change? nothing.. They will wait the time pass and the users start to forgot this.. but the issue doesnt be fixed until next gen... probably.

I bet Apple engineering knows exactly what is causing the cellular connectivity problems with some devices and customers. It’s probably a bigger issue for them than a software update is able to fix. So rather than admit and open a can of worms, they will stay quiet and wait until the complainers quiet down. Most consumers of the phones probably have no issues as many have posted on here.

Yes, probably most dont have any problems.. but i think few of them have the problem, but whenever their phones work. they will think all is good. BTW. Im happy with the X, so i dont mind this year.. Skip for the probably 5G iPhone in 2020.

You're probably right. I had thrown in the towel totally at the end of last week and then as fate would have it, I received a targeted "my Best Buy" incentive on Friday to purchase a Samsung or iPhone and receive $150 BB gift card. I'm a glutton for punishment so I went ahead and tried it one more time.

I'm hesitant to jinx myself by saying this Max has been great thus far, but it is - to the point that I'm shocked. No Bluetooth disconnects, stays on 5G WiFi and consistently tests over 250mb up/down on it like every other device in every part of my house. Performs exactly as well as my X did at work.

I was on the "hidden design flaw" bandwagon, but now I'm not so sure because there's a very distinct difference in this device. Makes me think maybe it is more of a QC problem paired with multiple instances of bad luck on my end more than anything.

I ran into this BS over the weekend. 3 and 4 bars showed, but I got error messages saying I didn't have a connection.

Hmm, look if your data connection its On, look your Apn.. and after, restart. 3G or 4G doesnt appear in your Phone, so something is wrong.

I had this happen yesterday. I was outside in a strong signal area. Called Verizon. They said they had no equipment issues in the area and my phone was operating properly. I preordered the XR. A year of this will make me crazy.

Not sure if next year apple put 5G.. Intel modems are not 100% ready, and first connections dont work as well they want. Maybe increase the battery consumption.. and is better wait 1 year more and refine and improve that technology
