That's not necessarily true. They could easily move the code that fixes the charging issue from 12.1 beta into a 12.0.1 bug-fix release and release that in the next week or so. Apple has done this many times.
They could. The article I read said the release for the charging fix was around the end of the month.

I don’t want to but considering giving the Pixl 3 a shot for a year. I know several who have it and love it. I can sell my 8+ for what I have in it. I hope Apple resolves this soon. Now that I have decided to move to a smaller phone I am ready to get it done.

I'm trying to move from the Pixel 2 to the iPhone XS mainly for the Apple Watch 4. Wear OS has nothing that can compete with Apple Watches and iOS/Android seem close enough to make the switch less painful.
I'm just going to hate to give all the storage I have through Google. Unlimited photo/video in Google Photos for have the Pixel and 120 GB of Google Drive for the Chromebook.

The Apple Watch is absolutely a barrier to switching. I love my Apple Watch..

If Apple can't figure out the antenna/signal on the XS I'm going to get the XR.
My parents stopped by the other day and I field tested their iPhones at my house and the dbm readings are their phones were the same as the XS I had. I didn't do download speed tests as where I live the highest data speed I ever get is 40 Mbps and my WiFi speed is only 30 Mbps so speed isn't a factor for me just reception. I am starting to wonder if it's more software than hardware but only time will tell.
As for the slow WiFi before people jump on it. I don't pay for it my company does so I'm not going to waste extra money every month for faster speeds. 30 Mbps is fast enough to stream all the movies, TV shows, or sports so I'm content.

Edit: parents phones are iPhone 8 and iPhone 6. GSM versions on T-Mobile.

You still get unlimited photo/video storage with google photos. Unlimited storage if you let them resize the photos OR unlimited as long as they are 16mp or less which the iphone photos are.

I've used google photos for many years. And on 4 generations of iphones now. And I always keep the original size.

Edit - Let me correct myself, upload using high quality and not original. If they are over 16mp they will be resized if they are under 16mp they won't be and you'll have unlimited storage.
Video will be resized if it's over 1080 otherwise it will keep the original.

I think the XR is going to be an amazing device for many who don’t need that extra-crisp 1080p video. I am trying to get to that point. My thing with the XR now is that now that I know I want to go smaller, is the XR small enough. The XS feels perfect in the hand to me. I want one-handed typing and no pinkie required for resting the device. I am not a small guy but just over the huge phone. The XR is basically the same weight of my 8+. I will say that the OLED on the X/XS is very nice. My wife has the X and it is definitely a better display than my 8+ IMO.

Agree. I actually pay Google Photos for 200GB of storage as I do redundant backup of all my photos.. and that includes images taken from my camera loaded to my iPhone. Those images can be Raw so can be 20+MB.

Depending on what you need the Apple Watch for there are alternatives that don’t have an ‘OS”. I have used Garmin watches in the past and they have held up well. I use the AW for fitness/running mainly and tracking my HR. I need to turn the Low HR warning off actually as I have a really low HR and I don’t need those ‘notices’ every morning. If I were to leave the AW, I would go with something like the Garmin Forerunner 935. There are options out there. I get it though.. the AW is very nice and a great tool.

On non-Pixel Android phones at least, Google Photos re-compresses them, even though the resolution stays the same. I use Google Photos as a secondary backup method on my Galaxy S7, and when I have both set to sync via cellular (I usually don't, but for a trip this summer I did), Dropbox uses 2-3x the data syncing photos that Google Photos does, so it's being done on the client end to save data.

You can also go back and convert from full size to high quality later, as somehow I ended up with about a gig of full size photos in mine that was taking up space in my Google Account, and there is an option under managing storage to resize them in the cloud, and after an hour or two, I got the gig or so of storage back. Now only GMail uses space in my Google Account, as I took files that weren't Google Docs off of my Drive as well. Google Docs don't count against the storage, that's free and unlimited.

I would think they are doing the same thing on the iPhone.

Similar to my situation. I had an 6s Plus with the Series 2 watch and then eventually tried out Android. Was really happy with my recent Huawei P20 Pro but the Android or Samsung watches are absolut crap compared to the Apple Watch. I bought the iPhone XS Max on launch day and will get my watch on Monday. Really annoying to pay 1400 euros just so I can make use of the watch when I would have been perfectly fine using the P20 Pro which is almost as good as the XS Max.

I’ ll Give Apple an update to straighten this issue out. Hopefully it’s software and not hardware
My question is where is Apples QC ?? Isn’t the first thing they should check is reception after all that’s the basic of an iphone

I decided to keep the max and boxed up my 7+ to send off to T-Mobile tomorrow. I’m actually slightly sad. It was my first iPhone and after 2 years it’s nearly mint. Love the Max though!!

My first XS had both the LTE and WIFI issues. (rubbish LTE, most of the time on 3G, WIFI speeds significantly slower than 8+, 6S, 6). I returned the phone last week and the techs identified a 'manufacturing defect'. I just got a new XS in return and it is in perfect order. No more WIFI issues, no more LTE issues.

This leads me to believe that there is indeed a hardware issue which only affects a small number of users.

Good luck to everyone still having connectivity issues.

I can't say I've had any connectivity problems. My main SIM is in the Max and it performs as well as the X did.

I returned my first Xs Max on Wednesday. That first one had bad reception and wifi. Different apps. would randomly generate messages about having no internet connection and the LTE would change to 3G when that happened.

The new Xs Max hasn't had that issue... yet. We'll see. I have another two weeks to see how this one is.

Thank you both for your feedback. @Nhwhazup, I've read some of your posts, these recent feedbacks look promising and might help you decide.

XS T-Mobile here still haven’t noticed any reception issues, pretty much the same with my 8 plus. Note 9 still gets way better reception but every Samsung phone I’ve had on T-Mobile usually does a lot better.

Thanks for pointing to these folks that had good replacement phones.

I’m on a road trip this coming week. I look forward to trying another Max when I return home. I’ll likely ask them to set it up right in the store to make sure the LTE issues are not with the new phone as well.

My XS Max reception is better, but it works worse compare to X at home. Before my X was on B12, now XS Max picks up low level B2 signal which X couldn't get and upload is terrible. This is ATT, not Apple, but this is what I have.

My wife’s Xs has 2 fewer bars than her 5s in comparisons. We haven’t noticed an actual loss in reception yet, but it is concerning considering the length of this thread.

Great news, hopefully most can do the same who are having issues
