I don’t buy that. I think there’s a large batch of bad phones.
I’ve literally had my phone next to my girlfriends phone running speed test. I get ~ 90’s and she’s in low single digits.
Her replacement phone performs similar to mine now.

You don't buy what, that Intel makes garbage modems? Because they do. Qualcomm chips do a MUCH better job than Intel chips - but some just refuse to believe that since Qualcomm and Apple are not getting along right now.

My iPhoneX with Qualcomm modem and zero reception issues that is gimped to perform as slow as its Intel brethren says hi!.

If the chart someone posted earlier to determine date of manufacture is correct, my XS Max purchased on Oct. 5 was manufactured during the week of Sept. 23. If it's a manufacturing defect, that would have to be a very large batch of bad phones.

Hey I’m new to posting in this thread. I have an Xs Max that I received on launch day ordered through Verizon. I’ve noticed my WiFi is much slower than my iPad Pro 10.5 during numerous speed tests and consistently shows 1 less bar on the WiFi symbol vs my iPad in same exact location. The WiFi on Xs Max speeds way up to normal if I’m in the same room as router but any further distance, the speed drops way down vs iPad keeping a great speed consistently.

Furthermore, my LTE has been significantly slower than IPad during all speedtests. I’m past my 14-day return window. I don’t know what to do.

Contact Apple Support about the issue. Be prepared to outline your experience.

The issue I am seeing with my Xs is upload performance is terrible, side by side with an Intel iPhone 8 or X the Xs usually shows similar or better download speeds but 1/2 or worse upload.

Noticed exactly the same: (first screenshot is in my house "best" reception zone, second one is in the "worst" zone):

My LTE download speed on my Max has been excellent. I am getting better reception at home than with my iPhone X. I have noticed the upload speed with Ookla (numerous times) has been very slow. Not really concerned, as my phone hasn’t given me any problems thus far. Will wait for a carrier and iOS update.

Well, my 3rd XS just arrived from Apple. Straight out of the box I set it up as a new phone, updated to 12.0.1, and installed the Speedtest app and ran three tests. Serial # is F17XG5.... for what its worth.

Signal in my office is weak, which I'm thinking is my best option for re-assessing the phone since I have full bars at home.

First 3 Speedtest results (Verizon in Houston) to local Comcast server:
1) 0.74/0.15
---failed to connect for 2nd test...waited a few minutes
2) 0.06/0.07
3) 0.09/0.15
---failed to connect for a 4th test.

3 speed tests taken immediately afterwards with sim back in X (Qual):
1) 8.54/1.04
2) 8.21/1.22
3) 8.44/1.87

Note: both are indicating 2 "bars" of service. I'm pretty close to just totally surrendering at this point.

While Apple tech is aware of issue ,Apple won’t officially acknowledge it. I was in the Apple store returning an Xs Max and while waiting at the table another person was returning for the same reason. It’s a problem and 12.0.1 didn’t really help connectivity issues from what I’ve seen
What I don’t understand is with all the developer testers, field testers, public beta testers testing the iPhone and software they don’t realize there is a problem
Apples Quality Control needs to improve!

I ordered this XS yesterday and an XS Max at the same time, which delivers tomorrow. If the Max performs just as poorly as this third XS, it is over. At this point I have spent so much time on this and have about $4000 in phones pending on my credit card at any point in time over the past few weeks...just ridiculous. Thank God they dont charge restocking fees.

I think it probably doesn't help that Apple rushes to have a new full version of iOS ready for each new phone model launch. If something's not ready or broken in the updated version of iOS, it still has to be rolled out on launch day with the new phones.

Been on it for 3 days, nothing better with the LTE. I never had the yellow screen or wifi issues though.

I guess that's what we get when they let 8 year olds put these things together :) .Quality control seems to be going downhill in recent years.

I’ve found my reception and clarity much better on my Xs Max than on my previous 6S Plus. I was surprised and pleased when I discovered this.
Frankly it’s the best I’ve ever had on any phone or carrier. (AT&T).

Like others, though, I will say it never seems to show more than 2 bars.

I’m puzzled as to why I sometimes have low upload and download LTE speeds but, my phone works great. My wife’s 7+ is the same and no problems with her connectivity either. Actually, the LTE speeds for both of our phones is quite inconsistent but, they both work great.

Came home today and it wouldn't connect to my wifi, tried manually and it asked for my password and claimed it was wrong. Rebooted the thing and it was fine on wifi again.

Meanwhile, it soon will be already a month since the Xs was released. More power to those who decided to keep these phones. It looks like any signal improvements might not come until the next iteration in 2019.

The iPhone 7 had an issue with LTE on Verizon, and it was patched on Oct 17 2016. Those phones released on Sept. 16th. So a month to fix LTE issues with one carrier. If there is a software fix coming, it will still take some time.
