The notch isn’t going anywhere, just accept it. New phones from Asus (confirmed) and OnePlus (leak) will have a notch and I’m sure others will follow. I just don’t get it. Bixby wears the crown for dumbest feature in a phone, but the notch is right up there.

What is wrong with people / designers. I weep for the future.

Have another word besides hate that would apply after reading the comments about the notch on these forums?

In Marketing we are forced to think that there are a few consumers who involve themselves with a certain brand with too much passion. In the middle of the first decade of 2000s this was a target to achieve. But some has discovered that passion always come with hate. They are both raw feelings of humans that shares the same "space" in human minds. It's very difficult to positioning a brand in the passion and deal with what consumers thinks and to direct them.

Passion and Hate are the same raw feeling. It's inside the human essence.

Police departments around the world managed to work with both a long time ago. A lot of crimes are based in Passion/Hate.

Looks like "The Notch" has achieved such status.

lol

I agree with this part of your comment. The notch is going nowhere and others will follow it. I do believe it will get smaller and that once apps are updated it will become less and less of an issue for some so the question is now:

What are the never-notchers, notch dislikers and no-notch'onians going to do going forward? No more iPhones for them I can only assume..

I didn't mind the notch on the Essential when I had it and I don't mind the notch on the X.

Hopefully there will still be sane manufacturers who make a proper screen. I have faith in Motorola, they didn't go to 18:9 (yet) because they saw no purpose. Sadly yeah, notch haters will have to look elsewhere.

I don't get it. Anti-notchers give up the big display because of the little notch.

for me is like a scratch in your windshield your eyes lock on it all the time, as long as other option without the notch I will stay away from any phone with a notch

Would you stay away from a MacBook 12 with notch? The notch is essential for all the sensors to be in place and I, for one, love the notch; it exudes character.

nothing wrong with peoples that like the notch and nothing wrong with those who don't,
i just hope Apple will make both of them happy

The notch is a complete none issue in my business and social groups too. The reason? I don’t know anybody who owns an X and the one person I did know swapped it for a different phone. The iPhone X is rarer than rocking horse poo in my part of the world and conversations about mobile phones among friends is also rare. Opinions for me are found in places like this and I don’t mind sharing mine too.

I’m quite interested in discussing Apples future direction and I guess away from places like this people don’t really give a toss. The biggest gripe I’ve encountered about the X from people I know and from regional social media is the price tag. The notch is the least of its worries here.

The notch sucks big time. It is stupid. Whoever at Apple thought that this was a good idea should be fired immediately.

And FaceID is stupid. Why do I have to swipe up with Face ID?

And yes, I have an iPhone X. Definitely will switch to an Android phone without a notch when this iPhone X becomes too slow.

Why would you buy a phone that you hate 2 of the things that differentiate it from the other models?

More should have your understanding of the Notch. That’s exactly what it does. But others are convinced Apple added the Notch to make others mad and have another reason to complain.

It's just there. It is what it is. It's a concession to hardware realities.

So yeah, for the foreseeable future, either the notch or a full-width band is here to stay. If that's a problem, hang onto your earlier-gen iPhones, or go over to Android (where you can now get either a faux notch or a full-width band).

My friends who have iPhone X’s and I stand around in clubs looking at the ladies, flashing our notches.

They come running like flies to honey.

Because the Samsung Galaxy S8+ was lagging too much on Android and didn’t want to wait for the Galaxy S9.

But after doing the comparison to Android phones, I will switch to Android phones if they got the lag under control.

False.

If some one mentions units, you move the topic towards revenue and vice versa.

Because the topic being debated was the comment of "best selling iPhone since it's launch..." by Tim Cook.

Apple, like all big companies, measures its success in terms of revenue, not units.

You and I go do the store. We each buy the same sized jar of lemonade powder. We each mix it with the same amount of water and we go to the same beach on the same blistering hot summer day. You sell 50 cups of lemonade at $1 per cup. I sell 25 cups of lemonade at $5 per cup.

I had the better day because I brought home $125 and you only brought home $50. You also worked twice as hard and ruined your sweaty iPhone 6 case while still selling your $1 cups until 5pm whereas I was lying in a hammock in the shade drinking my half a jug of leftover lemonade and admiring my iPhone X by noon.

I think in 2017/2018 not sure it was acceptable. Just what’s we were used to

With how flagships are these days we expect minimal bezels.

Certain people do, I can’t speak for the majority though as I doubt the demand for minimal bezels is a standard demand. It’s not something I’ve heard away from tech sites like this. Price is more of a concern for me and most that I know and observe on social media.

The thing with the notch is that if you look at it purely from a design aesthetics standpoint it's ugly and an eye-sore.

If you look at it from an engineering stand-point it's actually a beautiful solution. Maximising the screen and doing away with useless bezels.

If you look at it from a usability stand-point, it's no issue at all. It literally disappears within moments of using it and you get the benefit of having extra screen real-estate. I especially like the blue navigation shape you get in the top left ear when minimising a navigation app, instead of a huge black bar you get on other iPhones.

The notch is here to stay. It will first become smaller as they are able to merge sensors, then it will become smaller as parts can go beneath the screen and finally it will all disappear when a camera can be placed behind the screen. Sadly, I don't see a camera behind the screen happen within the next 2 years. I always say, if you see how bad front-facing camera's are right now in comparison to the back camera, can you imagine how bad the camera will be when placed behind a screen.

No, it's not. It's actually very cool and does three important things:

1. Creates the space for the clock and status indicators without cutting into the main screen area.

2. Allows for the awesome rounded shape in all four corners.

3. Let's everyone around you know you dropped $1,200 on a phone.

Long live the notch.
