No, it's not. It's actually very cool and does three important things:

1. Creates the space for the clock and status indicators without cutting into the main screen area.

2. Allows for the awesome rounded shape in all four corners.

3. Let's everyone around you know you dropped $1,200 on a phone.

Long live the notch.

You can enjoy the notch now for what it’s worth and it does certainly have its purpose for housing the sensors, camera and speaker. But ‘Long live the Notch’ I doubt. I think Apple will reduce the notch slowly over the course of the iPhone in the next few years, until we reach a point where the notch is not in existence with the maturity of the hardware and refinement of how the iPhone changes.

Question?? If you think notch will be removed from the future iPhones?? Then where will be the sensors housed? Do you have any indication??

No doubt as the technology matures the notch will eventually go away.

But in the meantime it is very cool to own a phone that looks different than all the others and is instantly recognizable as such. If one commutes by train and interacts with thousands of people every day, you know what I mean, we all check out each other's tech and I get dozens of stares daily. I simply like the attention, it's a fun and unexpected bonus.

Are they looking at you impressed because you are a multi millionaire (apparently) using an iPhone X on public transport, or are they looking at you because you are quite clearly trying to attract attention and taking delight doing it? Most people wouldn’t admit to what you say here and I find the best way to deal with them is to not give them the satisfaction of a second look to be honest. Modesty wins the day I think.

LOL, with the 100s of Android's out there it's no surprise that the knockoff X's are entering the market too. The good news is that if someone is close enough to me to see the notch they can also see the familiar home screen too.

Besides, in a $2,000 suit and an $18,000 wristwatch it's not like they'd think I'd have an Android anyway.

mate your comeback is just so hilarious that I like keep going.

A lot of salesmen use Android devices and drive BMW’s. It usually compliments their Rolex Daytona’s they bought in Zante.

It's people like you who give Apple users a bad name. When people think of "Apple", they imagine people like you.

I agree the notch is Apples trademark for the X and it will be for sometime, but I can tell you personally nobody cares about which iPhone I’m using. And this is coming from somebody that uses the latest tech from Apple And I think consumers generally don’t care what somebody uses for a phone, because it’s so common amongst all of us.

Perfect. That’s exactly what Apple and people like me want them to imagine.

Learn a little about luxury branding and aspirational marketing. And tell us how you aren’t attracted to men who only want the finest accessories and can afford them, you know, because of their “bad name”.

And perhaps where you live and the social circles you engage with, what you say is entirely true. Please understand that where I live and the social circles I engage in, what I say is also true.

It’s situational. What I can tell you is that my iPhone X gets noticed and turns a lot of heads. That’s not right or wrong, it’s just the way it is. I shouldn’t be held responsible because people are drowning me in attention. That’s on them, not me.

I have no idea whether or not you're talking complete bovine excrement......but that did me make me laugh.

He has a habit of reminding everyone he has money. Most of use our phones just not as a status symbol.

Lets not forget, the notch is a design compromise not a brilliant move on Apples part. Now that the tech exists to read a fingerprint through the front glass, the face scan is not needed and my hope is the notch vanishes.

To be fair a pair of Nike trainers can turn heads in a McDonald’s so you sat in there with your mates waving your phone around doesn’t really impress anybody here.

Those of us in normal professional situations don’t get the same reaction because an iPhone is either commonplace or people don’t generally care what phone you are using.

A baffling number of people are under the impression that the notch will stay, and Apple don't want to get rid of it as it looks good, it's iconic, it needs to be there for the technology. It's absolute rubbish, Apple certainly do want to get rid of it and will, but it will be years until it's achievable. Apple may choose to reduce it's size in the short term, if not by shrinking it's overall size, then it may be by reducing the width.

Fast forward a few years when Apple is still doing the notch and the never-notchers will have *hopefully* moved on to Android and can be found at any of those various forums complaining about X, Y or Z...

Yes, I can see the meeting in Apple HQ now...

"The notch is ugly! It's horrific! So let's put it on the most significant product release in company history and charge $1,500 for it! Genius!"

If Apple hated the notch they wouldn't have put it on their signature iPhone. Because, you know, they have complete control over the design of their products.

There’s no logic to your argument. According to you, your “social circles” would be wealthy, well-to-do people. People that can afford whatever they want. Why would a lousy $1000 phone be “noticed” by them? It’s not like they are envious or couldn’t have one if they wanted.
I think just the opposite is true. A poor person in their social circle with an iPhone X would “turn more heads”.
Go ahead and spin this around. You always do.

As I stated earlier, I commute by rail and I'm exposed to 1000’s of people a day here in New York City. They travel in different social and economic circles.

Claiming you commute on the train daily sort of contradicts your previous claim about pulling up at your place of work in one of your 4 BMW’s each day? I see I am not the only person who has rumbled you.

If you use the list app on your iPhone X, you can write down all your claims as not to trip yourself up.

I respect your admiration for your iPhone X, which you have vehemently Expressed your passion on the iPhone forum. I just don’t understand how others are drowning you in attention when you ride on a train with your iPhone X? I just view the iPhone X as a commodity and a piece of tech that holds no value in terms it’s just another annual iPhone every year. To me, there is nothing special or exclusive about that, even with all the technology embedded and construction, it doesn’t change what it is. Your iPhone X is set to be superseded by another new version of the iPhone X in seven months.

It’ll stay and get progressively smaller until the tech reaches a point where they can make the components small enough to eliminate it.

Yeah it seems unbelievable doesn’t it? If you used an iPhone X on the London Underground nobody would care but in New York it gets you fighting off people desperate for autographs. I think it’s just one of the many porky pies being told in order to live out an Internet fantasy. Hugely entertaining though and an enjoyable read.

For example: One of my cars is a muscle car with a loud exhaust, which draws attention and I have had compliments on it because it’s unique with the customization and it clearly Stands out.

However, having the latest iPhone, I don’t understand how others are fixated on something where they’re drowning someone else in attention over it? And I live in a fairly large city as well, nobody pays attention to my stainless Apple Watch or iPhone. I’m the type of person that I could care less if no one ever commented on what type of Apple product I own or iPhone specifically. I’m just having difficulty processing how others flock to those over a phone. If I had others Drowning me in attention over my iPhone , I would rather not have it be like that at all.

No and you're wrong?!

iPhone X is a first generation with complete redesign and Notch is iconic and differently from others models.

iPhone X will be always remembered as 10th anniversary of series's,

It will be remembered as first iPhone with OLED display

It will be remembered as first iPhone with Face I'd

It will be remembered as first iPhone with edge to edge display

It will be remembered as first iPhone with wireless charging,

It will be remembered as first iPhone with iconic Notch ;)

Isn't that enough to make it special and iconic. I'm sure @boltjames agree with me 100%
