Do you notice any other blurryness on text or stuff like that (without dark mode or night shift enabled) go to the Apple Webiste or Apple Store App search for the iPad Pro miniature image and scroll up and down do you notice any distortion?
yes some blurring of text in dark mode when I scroll quickly. But the red shift with scrolling is much more noticeable- it occurs even with slow scrolling.

If you have the same problem like mine where the iPad Pro Image on the Apple Website/Apple Store App we can rest assure that it’s either a software bug or a big ammount of defective iPad screens

Sucks to know this is effecting multiple people and Apple has no clue. I really wanted to keep my iPad but we spend premium price so it’s not too much to ask for perfection. Hope they fix these issues soon.

Hey mate, have you got time to check another iPad in any Apple Store?

This does not appear to be a widespread problem. Really didn’t find much at all searching. I called Apple and they are sending me another one. Should be here early next week.
Just curious did you get your replacement yet? Is your replacement smearing yellow?

I did. The store models were doing it too. I did notice if you toggle off True Tone while in dark mode it doesn’t do it so maybe it’s software?

Same exact issue on my brand new iPad 12.9 M2, noticed a lot of blurryness/ghosting on text or while scrolling. And now I did the test with your settings and got the same exact issue.

I first notices it when opened the Apple Store App (The one you purchase apple stuff not the App Store), went to the iPad section and move up and down and the iPad miniatures distorted a lot.
Great videos. The first one in particular is a perfect example of what I've been experiencing. I don't really see an issue on the other two videos. The discolored and distorted text with Dark Mode + Night Shift + True Tone enabled is really my biggest problem.

I was planning to go to my nearest Apple Store this past weekend to have them look at it, but life got in the way. Maybe in the next few days. At the very least, I want to see if the display models at the Apple Store have this issue. Luckily I have AppleCare+ so I shouldn't have to worry about a return period.

In the other 2 the problem is that that ipad pro image when moving starts getting blurry and can event get a more vibrant color while moving, making all the lines inside the photo to "Move or Merge"

You can try it out yourself -

I see this in almost every app, but especially in Safari on this site on my M2. I tried turning off night shift and it still does it but it’s a little less noticeable. I haven’t tried turning off True Tone but will now. Right now, 7:08am, I’m in dark mode and night shift and it’s especially noticeable. I’m on the 16.2 beta, I have submitted feedback by Feedback Assistant wasnt sure what category to put it under.

Just got my iPad Pro today and was scrolling through MacRumors, and started to notice a yellow smear when scrolling. It usually happens when Night Shift is on. With it off, its not so bad.

I think it is the Backlight fault because it is a Led Display and not Oled! For this, you've to change in the display settings check youtube.

I wonder if rebooting helps? I had this before on my m2 iPad Pro 12.9 but after rebooting it’s gone and fixed for me.

I tried turning True Tone off which did brighten text a little but did not change this smearing, blurring, yellowing of text. Especially noticeable on this site. M2 iPP.

I’ve really been seeing this issue on Macrumors as the first post shows in that video. But I have the site set to dark. Switching it to light it’s much less noticeable or completely gone. There is something going on with these screen settings between True Tone, night shift and dark mode. I’ve even noticed it when scrolling in the Settings app. I did restart my M2 which improved it over all but it was still somewhat noticeable on Macrumors until I switched back to light mode on the site. It’s either related to these darkening effects or it’s just much more noticeable with light text against a darker background.

I am pretty sure it is software related as (1) it only occurs with Night Shift/Dark Mode on, (2) M1 12.9” were reported at least once and it went away with a roll-back to iOS 15.7. Some reports called for Apple Store display models showing the same behaviors. You won‘t see it, if you do not use the iPad with these settings.
Now, if and when this will be resolved by an update…

At least two of us have confirmed that a roll-back to 15.7 fixes it. I saw multiple scrolling issues after updating and immediately came online looking for a thread like this. When "the future" confirmed that a downgrade fixed it in post #14, I did the same. Everything went back to normal across the board. I know that's no consolation to M2 owners, but I really hope Apple is actively working on this or has a fix in a dev build.

Is there anyone who has seen the issues in person that has also seen a 12.9" M1 or M2 that doesn't have it on 16.1? It seems like people who see it, also see it on replacements, display models, etc. That's concerning... I use my iPad at night all the time, so dark mode is a must and 16.1 breaks it with or without true tone and night shift.

Ok I just got back from the Apple Store, I replaced mine and the new one does the exact same thing with 16.1 so this is software bug. Also I checked again and the display models do it too.

I have a been seeing this quite a bit on my 12.9 M2 iPP but I’m currently on the 16.2 beta which does not fix it. I asked someone on the AppleSeed beta forums who has an M1, also on 16.2, to read this thread and check to see if he is experiencing the issue. He’s in the late evening now with dark mode on as well as True Tone and night shift. He did not see the issue.

Even though I was experiencing this in various apps as well as Safari the most obvious example of it was here on the Macrumors forum. Some others mentioned that a restart improved the situation so I rebooted the iPad and it was noticeably better. However I was still seeing a bit of it here again. I noticed that the video in the first post showed the dark background of the forum which is what I used, and what was shown was exactly what I had experienced. So I switched the Macrumors site over to the light setting which pretty much cleared the issue completely.

However on this big iPad a bright web site such as this bothers my eyes so I enabled an app, Noir, that I use on various sites, to darken Macrumors. I currently have dark mode on, it’s set for 5pm, night shift is off, and I’m not seeing any of this on Macrumors, which was the worst. Noir also uses tones that are more soothing to my eyes than the dark setting of the site itself.

With dark mode on, the text of my message list in Mail is white against the black background and I did just notice that scrolling through the messages caused that white text to darken a bit, when the scrolling stopped the white text went back to full brightness so even with night shift off it’s still noticeable when dark mode is active. But at least here switching off the dark setting dramatically improved the issue, and if a dark, but not black, background is desired I highly recommend that Noir app

Always had this on my iPhone 12. Thought it was related to OLED, but I was apparently wrong because the iPad is not OLED.
I haven't noticed yet on my 14 Pro, but I think it does the same.

Just went home to a trip to an “Apple Distribuitor” looked at the iPad there to replicate the problem and those iPad indeed have the same problem “sadly because I’m dumb i didn’t check the software versión they had” but got a slowmo video of it.

This is n iPad Pro 12.9 M2 they didn’t have the 11 inch version so couldn’t check that one out

The video show it but not as worse as mine or OP problem but still have it and is noticeable on even that brigh ambient with mall lights.

Never seen this on a phone. Currently have 14PM dark mode, True Tone and night shift all on and I see no such issue. Had a 13PM previously and never noticed it. But definitely there on my iPad Pro.
