And about the pixelation issue? Still present? Can somoene confirm if it persists?
With your best guess, how far past 100% are you zooming in to see pixelization? I think it’s noticeable 400% and above as I believe 600% zoomed in on the image as as far as you will be able to go.

The maximum that app photos allow with native app. I can see pixelation everywhere at that level of zoom.

That’s too far, 600-700%. Any digital image will show pixelated details at that level. Find a monitor or app that will allow you to view the file at 100%. The image starts to break down past 200%

iPhone image quality is Definitely better (for me) after installing 18.2. I hope the improvements stay!! Hopefully you other members will also have improved 48mp ProRAW files. My night mode images have improved, stars are much sharper. Despite the near full moon, I like what I see. The top of the sunlit tree is clear as seen in the crop. My touch to focus yellow box doesn’t hunt and flicker “trying to focus” like it did with 18.1.1. Much faster focus.

The pixelation issue was not present in iOS 17, at that level of zoom, and as a person who likes to pixel-peeping the results for me have been unacceptable.
Even with ProCam , zomming even further the results are almost perfect, and similar to iOS 17 results.

PS: Asked some members and seems to be NOT fixed, at least for them and for me. Tested with 4 devices.

Hallelujah, it seems that with 18.2 they finally solved my issues with ProRAW 48. Now iPhone kills the Pixel 9 Pro at max resolution just like it did with iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Happy times.

Did the pixelation issue disappear? Fresh install? or just updated?

The pixelation seems to be less pronounced; But the photos are not sharp at all, comparing with ProCam with Proraw 48. In 100% zoom, i can still have better photos with more 30% detail that native camera ProRaw Max.

Examples above.

ProCam ProRaw 48mp vs Native ProRaw Max JPEG-XL Lossless.

Yes, my phone got fixed as well. I have as I mentioned before two iPhone 16 Pro Max devices one never had an issue. The other one did. The one that had the issue is now matching the image quality of the other. Pretty darn happy. Night mode also looks great, stars are much sharper and pinpoint.

Yes i can see some improvements, Stock camera have better definition and less pixelation, but is not as sharp as the ProCam, at least 25% worse than ProCam app. Im gonna try my another 16PM.

Stock camera does more denoising than ProCam which is probably the reason for the weaker details. I don't think Stock will ever match third parties on detail and that is not really a bug, it is more a different approach.

Yeah pixelation is much less visible.
But the definition and details are less; with more aggressive denoise. (stock).

But as you both mentioned, im having even better results in IOS 18.2 with non native app.

Just for curiosity, did you both still have better quality with ProRaw from ProCam comparing to stock like me? Shoul i be worried or not? Thanks 😊

PS: 1st ProCam, 2nd Stock, and so on.

So which one is which? iPhone stock camera on the left or on the right hand side?

When testing with ProCam after the update, ProCam seems to be a little bit more aggressively over sharpened. I prefer the look of the stock camera.

I don’t think you need to be worried about it. Because your zoomed in 600% which will show a lot of flaws no matter what kind of camera or sensor it is. Mine looks the same way so I’m satisfied. Next thing you should try is night mode and see how well your stars look.

I don't have the latest iPhone but can someone also test Moment and ProShot? I'm switching to an iPhone 11 Pro Max so I will no longer have access to ProRAW until I can purchase a ProRAW capable iPhone...

Iphone 12 Pro, have ProRaw capabilities. Even if it is not the ultimate thing, it can still produce some great photos, even in Proraw.
Prices might be similar to the 11PM.

IOS 18.2

More samples and comparisons.

Pixelation is still present; [less], but present (Stock Camera).

The definition/clarity of ProCam {ProRaw} results still, for my personal taste, unbeatable.

2 pair of photos of different 16PM units, both updated to the latest software.

Yes slightly fixed; not fully fixed; at least in the (Pixelation) department.
Check out the HIEF files from my iPhone… impressive!!! Guess I’ll use this format more often.

I’ll test & post a ProRAW sample at the bottom

Edited ProRAW cropped image:

HEIF still looks sharper. however, using this format, you really have to watch your highlights and make sure you don’t over expose them because once they are blown, you cannot recover them.

Yes, from my experience, strangely; HEIF files are noticeably sharper.
And no Pixelation Present.
(HEIF max) - (Stock).

But as you stated is not that versatile when compared to ProRaw and even Raw.

I will compare it with ProRaw From ProCam.
Thank you for your contribution.

I captured this in HEIF at sunset. It looks great to me.

HEIF max (Stock) - (1,3,5 Photos) vs ProRaw (ProCam) - (2,4,6 Photos) .

HEIF max captures 90-95% the same quality of the ProRaw(ProCam), while being almost 1/5 in file size.
But tends to overexpose a little bit.

Miles ahead of the ProRaw of stock; No pixelation and superior definition.

Still, it’s great to fast capture and share with this HEIF max format.
