What will you do with the other redeem? Assuming Disney continues dual redeems and Snow White was just an anomaly...

Not sure. I'm going to assume at this point US Disney will be single redeems. If it changes, not sure......I'm still nervous about Disney tracking the codes and locking my account. I've even started to hesitate on Flixster glitches. I don't want to wake up one day and have a bunch of movies gone from my UV account because they started enforcing it.

I tend to get iTunes money as gifts quite a bit.......so right now I'm using that for books and movies. Figure I don't mind spending $19.99 for a movie when I didn't have to buy the card. That's what I ended up doing for Snow White and a few other hard to find Disney princess codes. For some others I managed to get good deals on the BR forum....now that my suspension is over

I'll also continue to get Vudu credits where possible. I had to buy Cinderella on Vudu because Apple and Amazon already pulled it. Used credits for that. But credits are becoming harder to find right now since I'm maxed on a bunch of prefixes.

iTunes recently gave me two movie rental codes built into my account worth up to 4.99 each. If you get a 5.99 movie, will it charge you a dollar or will it not count the credit at all? Thanks!!

You'll pay the full $5.99 and have the free rentals still intact. I know because I asked this question to iTunes Support when they gave me a few free rentals.

Thanks. Not the greatest offer then as most HD rentals are $5.99. I'm glad you replied before I tried it. Thank you!

For new releases they are useless, but if there is something you wanted to watch that is a year old, those should be $4.99 or under.

Going broke. Picked up Spectre, Bridge of Spies, Snow White, Wall-E, and a bunch of iTunes movies that I really don't need but bought because they were $1. I hope the bleeding will stop after Black Mass and Steve Jobs.

Yeah got Spectre and Black Mass today. Been on a Disney binge - up to 72. Total movie count at 647 between UV and iTunes.

Not willing to buy the vaulted titles - yet ;)

Looks like Tim will have Black Mass and Steve Jobs on Friday night.

What's funny is there won't be an iTunes code for Steve Jobs. Don't think Black Mass has iTunes either.

Black Mass is WB so it'll have a Vudu and Flixster redemption. You can sell off the Flixster and recoup most (if not all) of the cost.

Why is Ted 2, 3 times more for UV?
iTunes are considered "throwaway" codes. Nobody wants them. So if a movie comes out with both UV and iTunes redemptions, depending on the seller, many will either get rid of them for a buck or $1.50, or do giveaways.

This is the one situation where it is GREAT to be an Apple and iTunes user.

Why is Ted 2, 3 times more for UV?

UV is more desired because of some of these:

- More apps to view titles in
- D2D services
- Higher availability of movies (some studios don't do iTunes codes)
- People want everything in one place

-Kevin

UV is more popular than iTunes.

Seems azz backwards. With itunes being the largest and best most used premium platform, where people spend more money, and many people saying UV is dying, yet here, UV is more popular and brings higher prices?

iTunes is only available on Apple products and Microsoft. Where as UV is on every device out there. But the biggest reason is studios back UV.

Every studio (besides Disney since they use their own platform) includes UV codes in their Blu-ray releases. But not all studios include iTunes codes.

Like @Kendo said, UV has the full backing of all the studios, where iTunes doesn't. That's a huge issue for some people who want their collection to be in one place.

There are pros and cons for each. Primarily it's iTunes vs. Vudu as Vudu is really the #1 platform for UV in the US.

There is a huge amount of users that aren't in Apple's ecosystem. For them, they can get Vudu (or Flixster) apps on just about anything.....from game consoles to TV's to BluRay players. And for some, the Vudu app is superior to iTunes. Vudu on some devices can do 1080p/24 where the Apple TV can't still. Vudu is rolling out UHD, and while still very early, is giving 4K users some content.

Vudu apps on iOS devices are still just OK. And the Vudu to go app on Mac is not great. Compared to the download options you get in iTunes, this is one area where Vudu struggles.

In a perfect world, Apple and Amazon would both join UV and we could be one big happy family. Don't think that will ever happen with Apple. Amazon, maybe in the future as there were rumors in the past they were looking to join.

So for now, the iTunes portion of code slips will still sell for far less, but will be limited in selection. For us UV users, that can also help offset the cost of full codes.

The studios could all very well follow Disney's lead: one code unlocks for multiple stores automatically. You get iTunes, Google play/YouTube, Amazon, Vudu and Disney movie anywhere.

Smart.

The thing about iTunes is that I've kind of, in very large part, pretty quickly run out of movies I want to collect for it.

- I don't want SD movies, and so many past a couple years ago are xml codes.
- I mostly don't feel compelled to get any without extras, as that leaves blu-ray as a better choice.
- I don't do UV movies for much this same reason. ^
- A couple instances of stuff that costs more than $5 and may as well get for just a little more on blu-ray.
- I don't want a bunch of mediocre space filler stuff that I wouldn't care about owning otherwise.

So I'm actually… almost just about topped out on back-catalogue stuff that I'm interested in with only ~45 movies in my iTunes library. (Until or unless I eventually decide to spend $100 on a somewhat expanded Disney collection.)

Now I'm left with maybe only a small few more already-released movies I would want to collect, and then it's just looking at new releases every few weeks or so. I've hit a peak in my iTunes codes grabbings, so much earlier than expected with less than 50 movies (including what was there before all of this!). And I feel the absence of the perceived treasure trove I was so excited for just a couple months ago…

tldr: my bargain-bin consumerism didn't fill the void and now I'm venting about it online.

To me Blu-rays are decidedly more expensive at $15 to $25 a pop. With iTunes, 40% of new releases can be had for a $1 (Universal, Paramount, Lionsgate). D2D for older releases along with recent iTunes movies covers 70% of my library at $1 a piece.

New iTunes releases and older D2D movies (2013 and before) = $1
New WB releases = $2.50 (after selling Flixster half)
Sony and Fox = $5
Disney = $5 to $10
