The studios could all very well follow Disney's lead: one code unlocks for multiple stores automatically. You get iTunes, Google play/YouTube, Amazon, Vudu and Disney movie anywhere.

Smart.

Actually, UV does work a lot like Disney's system. A few differences. Disney is backed by Disney, UV is backed by the D.E.C.E.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Entertainment_Content_Ecosystem......which is most of the studios, , consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers, network hardware vendors and such. The big difference is that Disney and Apple are tied at the hip. Apple joined Disney right from the start. Disney gave Apple an exclusive, and that got the ball rolling and others followed. Apple has not joined UV, that's the real difference. If Apple joined UV, all codes could be used in itunes, Just like Disney.

What I am saying is Disney didn't lock themselves to Apple only. They are on Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Vudu's stores. With one code. All these stores use different DRMs and codec formats yet one code redeems across them all.

All the other studios could do the same... Sony for example could say hey link your iTunes account to us and everytime you redeem a code, it will show up in iTunes as well as your UV account. The individual Studios control where their codes will redeem. But it seems they want us to choose.

Disney originally backed iTunes (before UV). But as Disney usually does, did their own thing.....which in this case was the best for consumers. When they launched DMA it was only on Apple. It was later in the year they expanded.

UV was originally created so that the movie industry wouldn't hand over the entire thing to Apple to control, like Apple did with music. That and the studios didn't want to see DRM free movies like music went to. In the end the idea was good, keep the stores and the content separate....buy anywhere, watch anywhere. Sadly it's still not the best for consumers, and DRM continues to punish those who are honest.

I don't think we'll ever see the day where Apple gives up control and joins UV. Maybe if Amazon did, it might force Apple's hand.....but they are almost too big to care.

Has anyone else had trouble redeeming? I've tried copy/pasting as well as manual entry, but when I hit the redeem button it says that, "the code entered is not valid." It came from nannerberry.

I don't think Apple has any say if a studio decides to make their codes redeem across platforms. Apple doesn't have to join UV. I just hope the studios don't start following Fox's example instead of Disney's and make you choose one locker to watch your digital movies.

Are you trying to redeem in iTunes? Some movies need to be redeemed at a studio-specific web site first, which then will give you an iTunes redemption code (e.g. recent Fox releases such as Spectre).

Tried this, and it was the difficulty I was encountering. Thank you for your help.

There is no reason for the studios to change course now. If everything is going digital, it's in the best interest of the consumer to have a standard so we don't have to go buy 5 different players for our digital content (like it is now) UV does nothing but record your purchase so you can link your favorite player (itunes) to play your movies. This is the best thing for the consumer. Unfortunately, itunes, and the other walled gardens decided it was not in their best interest at this time. Sometime, one of them will join and get the ball rolling, until then the best thing we can do is ask them to join already, or just buy direct.

All the front work has been done. Everybody got together and voted. The only thing left to have things work the way you want them too is for itunes to join UV. As simple as that. I don't see the D.E.C.E starting all over at this point, it's all there, the system is in place....

I am iTunes first and UV second, but I actually hope UV starts to destroy iTunes in sales because if Apple joined UV, my iTunes and Vudu libraries could finally merge and my collection be in one place.

Exactly. If they all get joined up we can watch wherever we want, our movies will be all together, and we won't have to make a lifetime commitment to Apple and itunes.

Update on Disney codes - news hitting all the communities - Disney has made a system change so that ALL codes, including older titles, are single redemption only. You are going to see a LOT less Disney codes for sale since people can't sell the DC+ portion anymore. Glad I finished my collection already.

Means prices will also go up.

Amen to the finishing up my collection part. Even though we came into the game late, we got in just barely at a good time. I finished up Marvel and Pixar so I'm essentially done with Disney at this point. I won't pay for Vault titles so Cinderella (animated) and the Pirates of the Caribbean 1-4 set may be my final splurge.

Now I'm really glad that I picked up cheap DC+ copies of movies that I kinda wanted, but didn't really need (Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, etc.).

Seems like I got everything I needed in the nick of time ;-)

Cinderella isn't vaulted yet, so anyone who wants that grab it while you can. Only vaulted titles I got were Peter Pan and Lion King - but got deals on both. I basically splurged on Disney this past month getting 105 DMA titles.

Funny to see people complain like Disney took something away from them....like they were entitled to multiple redeems. Um, it was a loophole in their system they closed. Suck it up and move on. :D

yeah the Disney DC+ thing stinks.

I am glad I got 2 movies last week via DC+
but dang, I probably would have spent some more and grabbed some more. oh well I have more now than i did before

These are typically the titles that go in the vault. If they have sequels, they go in as well:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Aladdin (1992)
Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Bambi (1942) - In The Vault
Beauty and the Beast (1991) - In The Vault
Cinderella (1950)
Dumbo (1941)
Fantasia (1940) - In The Vault
Lady and the Tramp (1955) - In The Vault
One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)
Peter Pan (1953) - In The Vault
Pinocchio (1940) - In The Vault
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
The Jungle Book (1967)
The Lion King (1994) - In The Vault
The Little Mermaid (1989)

Here's an unofficial list of dates:
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Disney_Diamond_Editions

Dates are not set in stone. Latest rumors have Beauty and the Beast coming out of the vault this fall.

great list, thank you. I've got a long way to go.

I own (from that list):
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast
Cinderella
Lady and the Tramp
The Lion King
The Little Mermaid
Peter Pan

Any tips for 'buy now', 'wait' (should be coming out of vault), or 'it'll be a long time before you're gonna get it'?

Wow you are doing great with the vaulted titles.

Don't think anything else is expected to come out. The titles that are listed as going into the vault on that site - the dates keep changing.

I'd say if you are looking to collect all....get what you can now. If it has a code, that'll be the cheapest, although with the double redeems gone codes will be pricier. Anything else look at Vudu credits or iTunes discounted money.

...and we rarely watch these. But they're classics with sentimental value and lots of memories. I think I've bought most of these many times over, including most on VHS, some on laserdisc, most on DVD, and now Bluray/with digital code.

You already own all the movies that are most difficult to get, I'm pretty jealous. Beauty and the Beast is coming out this year but I'm gonna have to wait 5 years to pick up Lion King, Lady and the Tramp, and Peter Pan. Everything else that is "code-able" I pretty much own except Cinderella and some XML movies that are not yet affected by the new DC+ rules.
