I don't think the ones shipping now are going to explod, it should be safe:confused:

I think he was referring to the possibility that future 3GSs won't be able to be jailbroken.

If that IS what he means then I would definately get one like YESTERDAY since "rumor has it" that 3.0.1 (or 3.1, whatever Apple officially labels it) could fix the exploit and render it unbreakable. Since 3.0.1 is already available as a beta to developers time is quickly running out for 3.0.0 and getting your ECID. The Dev Team themselves basically said if Apple fixes the exploit with 3.0.1 and you DIDNT get your ECID then your S.O.L. If JBing the 3GS is very important to you Id go get one today because once 3.0.1 is released all iPhones will come loaded with it, meaning no JB (if Apple fixed it).

Question, does this whole "can't JB after 3.0.1" thing apply to the 2G/3G too, or just the 3GS? I'm just wondering what makes them different if it only applies to us (3GS users)?

why does everyone think 3.1 is immediatly going to be on new iphones...

it didnt happen before with ANY of the old iphones... you had to update when you got home...

its NOT going to be released with the new iphone.. it will still be 3.0

Because I was told by an Apple "Genius" that everytime there is a new firmware the new stock of phones that come after it is released ship with it installed. Since it's that guy's JOB to know I had no reason to think he was wrong (not saying you are wrong either, just saying I assumed an Apple "Genius" was giving me accurate info lol).

Not to mention the Dev Teams JB info releases have said that anyone who got their EDIC will "forever be able to JB" and the people who are screwed would be the current owners who didn't get their EDIC before 3.0.1 is released and people who buy their 3GSs after 3.0.1 comes out, which (to me anyway) implies those phones will already have 3.0.1. Anyway, "Don't shoot the messenger" dude, lol. Either way, if the guy wants the opportunity to JB it's way better to go the "safe than sorry" route and get it now then wait til SEPTEMBER. He asked if he should get it now instead of waiting, which implies he is able to get it now, so he might as well.

I just exchanged my 3G iPhone today at the apple store because my ringer switch broke off. It came with 2.2.1 on it.

They won't immediately stop selling iPhones with 3.0 on them. They'll sell the stock they have until it's out, and then all new stock will have whatever firmware it left the factory with. There isn't some guy in back unboxing and updating them all.

I didn't say (or think) there was someone opening and updating 'em all, I was just relaying what the "Apple Genius" said. He said new phones shipped out come with the latest FW installed. Since the 3GS sold out in most places Id assume that another batch is coming from Apple, and depending on when that is, they very well could come with 3.0.1 installed. I was just trying to give that guy a heads up. I personally wouldn't trust waiting til September if I wanted a 3GS that I could JB, no matter what anyone says about which software would come loaded on it. With all the talk of 3.0.1 possibly eliminating JBs but always being able to JB if you got your EDIC with 3.0.0, Id feel way more comfortable getting it now. That's just me personally though, he very well could be all set waiting til September. He'll, we don't even know if Apple even "fixed" JBs with 3.0.1, so this whole convo could be moot.

I wasn't in any particular hurry to upgrade from my mint-condition 2G, but the possibility of not being able to jailbreak is unfathomable. I ordered my 3Gs last night. ;)

Well since your 2G is mint you can just JB and unlock it and sell it on eBay for a pretty sweet amount. Almost like getting a free 3GS, or if you're lucky and get more than the 3GS cost you, it's like getting PAID to get a newer phone. That's always nice.

I've seen 2G iPhones going from $200.00 to $300.00 on Ebay. I think I'll sell it locally on Craigslist for $250.00. Part of the attraction of the 2G is that no firmware update can ever affect the unlock, since it uses BootNueter...

Heres an easier way to get those files to JB from the Dev-Team:\

During the restore process iTunes nicely keeps these oh-so-top-secret-files in a lovely accessible place for us to copy out and backup, that place? /tmp on Mac OS X or %TEMP% on Windows. Thanks Apple — handy!

104 kb. Both of them.

Which way did you do them?
I got the ibec from iclarified, but the second step i couldnt get the ibss file, even the second step for the ibss file came up as ibec.
the Purplerainyday file i get from them is 204kb?

You sure you aren't putting the phone in restore mode?

IDK what you mean by "second step". The iBSS shows up for me first in the folder, then iBEC 2nd.

IDK then. Sorry. Not putting it in 'proper' DFU mode seems to be the problem many have. And from what you are describing is exactly what happens when it's not.

So since we've gotten these secret ibss and ibec files from our 3.0 iphone 3gs's, can we now jailbreak any firmware (upcoming 3.1?) or only 3.0?? I'm a little confused I guess...
Thanks.

These files can be use for all future Jailbreaks.

The IbEC_iBSS grabber worked but it put three TMP folders into my designated directory and not just one. There are two (the earliest) that are modified at exactly the same time.

Which one do I keep? Is there any way to tell?
