"Why isn't your cheapest product just as good as your most expensive one?"
Every Mini before the 6 did not have this problem in portrait orientation, aka the one with all the scrolling. It’s a dumb decision from 3 years ago that was, for whatever reason, not corrected in this refresh.

So, as a Mini 5 user, this is a downgrade. No way around that.

I just came back from the Apple Store and checked out the mini 7 in person - Yes the jelly scroll is still there

Out of curiosity I also checked the iPad Pro M4 11 and 13 inch...I can see the jelly in portrait mode too, and I double checked that promotion is NOT disabled. (But of course everything looks perfect and normal in landscape mode)

I guess Apple's message to anyone who uses an iPad in portrait mode is: "**** you, you are using it wrong"

on second look, it seems like jelly scrolling is improved but definitely not fixed. Compared to 5 and 6.

Also at a glance, not liking the tint as much on this 7 as my 6 :/

and not a huge fan of this noticeable lighter space grey, they even made the touchID button not dark!
agree it is a shame it is a lighter tone... who knows the decision behind these things?! With my existing black folio case from the mini 6 it is 'ok'... guess that is why the new equivalent folio case in the Apple Store now is 'charcoal' to tone in better. I am not wasting £59 for that minor visual improvement!
Jelly scrolling in portrait defo improved IMHO. Although I am mainly a landscape guy lol

It's probably somehow cheaper for Apple

That's usually the rationale when nothing else makes sense

its sad thats that is probably both the reality and the perception. not because of design choice or anything else.

This is definitely a binned supply chain slop of a model.

You can still like it just fine, upgrade from 6 and be happy, or whatever but. the fact remains.

For what's it worth SE1 was also supply chain slop. Just happened to be pure gold to me lol

On my Mini 5, it's very subtle, but still is there.

Can you tell which is mini 6 and which is mini 7 from this photo?

(I think it came down to panel lottery and I lost, but)

also kinda hilarious and simultaneously depressing google trends there in that photo haha

Mini 6 on the right? Assuming true tone and night shift are turned off, then this is a huge difference.

Just finished setting up my new mini 7. There is no doubt that the screen tearing (Jelly Scroll) is still there. But it is definitely improved compared to the mini 6. I don’t think most people will notice but if you are hypersensitive it might still be a problem. Personally, even the iPad mini 6 didn’t bother me so this is fine.

Yep mini6 on the right and all the various accoutrements off

I would expect it’s panel lotto variation than that they made it inferior for mini7 but didn’t look good to my eyes and too boring a release to swap and go down the rabbit hole

Already posted in the official mini 7 thread but the issue is not fixed. It’s easy to test using the website below that all these YouTubers seem to not know about and think flicking the screen as fast as you can is how to test it when they are wrong.

Additionally, most people don’t understand what it is. Regardless of LCD, OLED, or refresh rate all panels have it. Turn your iPhone in landscape, go to the website and it’s there. Thankfully due to OLED response times and ProMotion its the least noticeable but EVERY panel has it including laptops and monitors. As others have stated in bigger devices like 13” iPads it’s harder to notice given then screen size and most use them in landscape orientation. The iPad Mini should be prioritizing portrait and because it doesn’t the ghosting is awful.

Test for yourself on any device, don’t just flick around websites. All iPads have jelly effect in portrait, all iPhones in landscape, and all monitors/laptop displays in portrait. Btw, no software update can fix this so please stop saying an update fixed yours, that’s just a placebo effect.

I’m a long time iPad mini 6 user who got his mini 7 yesterday as soon as stores opened. So 22 hours after purchase time and having used it quite a bit, I can confirm the jelly scrolling is still there on my unit. It’s less noticeable than on the 6, for sure, but it’s there.

Do I care? No, not really.

@Dianneeraser

Thank you for the confirmation
I knew these "reviewers" were all mostly just avoiding it or sugar coating the situation

They really are all beyond useless unless you just want to have some "YAY APPLE!" video viewing time, for some reason
There are a range of reports even in these forums, some agreeing with said reviews, some not. What makes one testimonial more valid than another? If you're predisposed to believing one particular report and not another, then this is a case of confirmation bias.
If there is an overwhelming majority of reports going one way, then that is another story, but that will take more than a few hours to become apparent.
So far the consensus is the jelly scroll is still there, but less than on the Mini 6. I suspect it will simply differ from person to person as to whether it's "fixed enough".

I actually think this is spot on at 5m7s to about 7 min something. While mini 7 had less jelly scrolling, it still did. Additionally it felt choppy to me a bit and like it was trying its best to not exhibit jelly while just wrangling it like Crocodile Dundee with an alligator, or a fat man in a little suit- all specifically at the expense of smoothness.

Mini 6 is hella jelly but it is fluid jelly.

It appears what we are looking at here is JellyMotion™ 2nd generation
