The 430 firmware is in the 12.3 beta 5. It's build 21E5227a.
This is a question to MisterAndrew and for tsialex:

Do you think there will be a fix coming (in 12.4) or would you say go ahead and install 12.3 beta 5 to fix the issue?

Answering is just an opinion, so if Mac Pro 6,1 blows up, it is by no means related to your answer. :)

MacPro6,1 is much more difficult and costly to repair, so I don't recommend doing it.

Said that, if I was personally having the same issue, I would have dumped the SPI and flashed the new BootROM, since I can always teardown and easily flash the backup dump if anything goes awry.

If you really want to test, you can always dump the current BootROM and buy a MacPro6,1 MATT card if you have problems, not much of a problem to install one.

12.4 final got 430.120.6.0.0 as well.

Windows says:

Apple Inc. 430.120.6.0.0, 2022-03-16

so Mac Pro 2013 is now upgraded from 2021 to 2022 ;)

Confirming 430.120.6.0.0 also for
Big Sur 11.6.6 final
I guess this shuts up those who thought Apple is making us upgrade to Mac Studio or Monterey (me included).

Though I could question the delay of release…but I will settle for the reason for the delay was to make sure it is compatible with the security fixes that they also released (over 50 I read), including for both Catalina and Big Sur.

Apple did not have to include the firmware in Catalina but they did. That does say a lot.

Edit: sorry, firmware is in Big Sur. No one has confirmed it is included with the Catalina security updates.

It certainly seems so.

I've got three 6,1s in testing with 430.120.6.0.0. A D300 with Mojave (latest 10.14.6) and two D500 with Big Sur (latest 11.6.6). Uptimes are now around 5 days with D300 and one D500, sleeping durations from minutes to hours to 4 days. No crashes so far. The last one of the three is up at three days now, and I am planning to install eGPU on it to continue testing.

We live some happy times again with our 6,1.

edit. Monterey is untested by me, but others have done it for longer time than I have with mine, and Monterey works too.

Original Apple SSDs? My 6,1 has an OWC Aurora Pro2 and has not been able to wake without crashing since 11.6.x

I have tried both original and 3rd parties. Now two are booted from 3rd party drives, namely Kingston KC2500 2TB, and one from external Samsung T5 1TB. Still no crashes.

All this only after 430.120.6.0.0. Before with earlier bootroms, all three were unstable with sleep. And to be honest, not entirely reliable with sleep turned off either.

Now I feel like doing some spring cleaning to them and updating the processors too. And the RTC battery of course.

Have the OWC Aura Pro X2 1TB with no issues so far with the latest firmware. Using Monterrey.

I'm running Mojave, how do I get 430.120.6.0.0 without updating to Monterey?

  • Attach an empty USB/Thunderbolt disk and format it.
  • Download the latest Monterey (12.4) or Big Sur (11.6.6) full installer (via MDS or App Store or….)
  • Being booted from the internal SSD (in your case with Mojave) use one of the above installers to install the OS to the external USB drive.
  • After install, re-select Mojave as your Boot drive, format the USB disk and delete the installer.
I think, that should be the cleanest way without creating a separate APFS container and messing with Mojave’s recovery partition.
Beware: No one knows if this firmware version plays well with anything lower than Big Sur.

Well actually it (430.120.6.0.0) seems to play nice on Mojave with my D300, please see my above posts. At least it played pretty well for over 5 days, with sleep activated. It was booted from external Samsung T5 SSD, 10.14.6 Mojave. Now I want to do some Big Sur with it too.

Maybe make usb installer and install to a APFS container, or change an empty ssd to Mac Pro during installing latest Monterey or latest Big Sur.

APFS container: APFS has changed I believe during Mojave - Monterey trips, but that should work still without risks, I think.

OK, I have updated my 6,1 firmware to 430.120.6.0.0 and Mojave is running nicely and most importantly seems to be sleeping/waking normally. No crashes/restarts/shutdowns, early days though. But I'm optimistic!

Have any of the firmware updates caused any problems with older versions of macOS on the 2013 Mac Pro?

I have a friend that is getting a Mac Pro specifically to run macOS Sierra for some old 32-bit apps. It never even occurred to me that he should pay attention to the firmware on the device.

To attenuate the warning: It was more in the context that the latest firmware was only seeded in Monterey and Big Sur updates and given Apple‘s discretion towards disclosing any changelogs, no one knows for sure. But I am not aware of any reported issues with lower OS versions nor have I experienced any in the past.

MacPro6,1 had a new EFI firmware update with today's Monterey 12.5 DP4, the new EFI was updated from 430.120.6.0 to 430.140.2.0.0:

Oh my. Hope they don't break anything with this.
Great you seem to be willing to test that version for us, thanks.
