I know it's a long shot but would love a folio case for the phone like the iPad Pro/Air cases that just attach by magnets (probably couldn't happen because of the wireless charging but I can dream)

leather folio is good, better than a magnet back folio.

$699 for the mini and $799 for the iPhone 12? That means $100 increase in price compared to iPhone 11. Not encouraging as this reverses the price drop of the iPhone 11. Not cool considering the global situation right now. It feels as tone deaf as Google charging $700 for the Pixel 5, although Apple is using flagship SoC unlike Google. That Qualcomm 5G modem must have cost Apple pretty penny.

Since Apple always have a separate modem chip, not built in to the Ax SoC, I kinda wish Apple would do a 4G version of the iPhone 12 series for less, for countries that won't have 5G coverage for a good few years in the future. But Apple probably won't do that.

The color options don't seem as exciting without any bright colors like orange or yellow.

My excitement just dropped a notch or two.

My guess for the lineup:
SE at $399
11 at $599
12 mini at $699 and so on.

There's still a gap at $499. Will the XR stay to fill that gap?

Well, doesn't matter. I bet the mini will be ~$900 once it reaches my country.

do they really mean optical zoom as we’d understand it, or more like ‘4x if you take the telephoto and compare with the ultrawide’ - i.e not much different from what we already have?

Magsafe sounds interesting. If it just means a simpler way to ensure the phone is correctly locked in place for charging I’ll happily replace my bedside charger just for the convenience.

My wife will hopefully eventually upgrade to the mini but in no hurry - can wait for offers later on so the delay isn’t an issue. Curious to see the different colours and practical difference between the regular and pro 6.1” - I’ll probably preorder a 12 but I’m willing to move up to the 12 pro if it has smaller bezels/better camera and the 128GB base is a safer buy - probably not much difference in price between the 256GB 12 and the 128GB 12 pro

november sucks, and especially sucks for UK iUP members that bought 11 on launch - we’ll have paid maybe 15 payments by then? Its only 20 to pay the entire phone off. I’d definitely recommend just settling the entire phone and selling privately in that case rather than just handing back

My guess is the latter: the current pro telephoto is 52mm equivalent, so same as what the leak says is going to be in the 12 pro. 12 Pro Max has allegedly got 62mm equivalent telephoto, so that would account for it having 5 x zoom overall.

No 120Hz display. In classic Apple fashion, they're leaving out this feature so they can include it in next year's iPhone as a selling point.
The iPhone 12 Mini is the best phone to get since the OG SE, for those who prefer a one-handed form factor. They won’t give the 13 mini 120 Hz so there is no reason to wait anymore to upgrade from the A9. The leap from the OG SE to 12 Mini is is going to be dramatic. Once the glass back and copper coils are removed and the weight is decreased it will feel even lighter. I know I can shave at least 10 grams off it to get it closer to the OG SE.

Kang explicitly says optical zoom for the camera system, so it does sound like 4x total (zoom out and zoom in) is correct.

I'm really doubting whether I'll stick with Apple now. Getting sick of the "thousand paper cuts" price increases, and for what? I'd want the 6.1" non-Pro with 128Gb and that's looking like it'll be £850-900 in the UK. That's with:
  • No 120Hz screen
  • No TouchID on power button
  • No charger
  • No headset
  • A massive notch (still)
Starting to look at what my wife gets on her Samsung A71 she got for under £300 and the S20 FE Samsung just released and starting to seriously question another iPhone. The Pixel 4a is also rumoured to have 10% off from October 15th - £315 for that camera is also very tempting.

Or you can buy the Pro that solves .. none of these points.
🙃

For the charger / headset, IMO it's not a big deal I'm on BT headset for years and charger you can find good deals on third-party brands. Just buy a charger of at least 18/20W certified USB-C PD and you're perfectly fine. ;)
For instance for the charger, I just bought on Amazon a 30W USB-C PD from a reputable brand for only €9 and that one is way smaller the 18W €35 one from Apple.
I agree that a shame that there is no charger but this point is little money and "fixable".

For Hz, TouchID, notch 100% agree. Keep in mind Apple could easily fix all this in one year. But they never will do that, they have a strict roadmap with very incremental yearly upgrade to keep people buying phone. Apple is a trillion dollar company not a company that want to do a perfect phone. And competitors play the same game.

As an A71 user myself, it is quite a phone for the price. But obviously it lacks things like IP68, features that apparently does cost a lot of money (base on what OnePlus said). This makes phones like the S20 FE quite a nice package for the price.

Having said all that, gotta give credit to Apple where it's due though. The whole Apple lineup all use nvme storage, metal frame (aluminum/stainless steel), IP68 rated, and even the cheapest SE uses a flagship SoC. So if we look under the hood, Apple's offerings are quite decent. And even if you get the iPhone 11 this time around, it will be supported longer than even Samsung's most expensive phone. But international pricing is definitely a challenge for Apple. Although Apple prices are competitive in the US, in other markets, they are out of whack, ruining Apple's own positioning against the competitors.

depends on what OS you want, android is great right now so might be worth a try depends how deep into the ecosystem you are.

i think non pro 6.1 should still be no more than 750-800

Anyone thinking of going from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to and iPhone 12 Pro? Wanna get it just because it releases a month earlier than the Pro Max.

Will the loss in screen real estate be very noticeable?
I'm thinking about it. My concern is battery life more than anything. If it's on par with the 11 Pro Max I'm getting it.

I think I am going to “downsize” to the 6.1” Pro. I currently have the Pro Max and its sometimes a little unwieldy for me, 6.1 seems like the sweet spot. Also, it’s nice that leaks suggest it’ll be available sooner than the Max. Am I right that the only difference is a wider lense and 47% larger sensor?

47% larger sensor? What does that mean? Current iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 1/2.55" sensor and the rumor was it was going to 1/1.9" Thats not 47% larger...

Leaked info makes sense when u compare it to an email magbak released yesterday. I haven’t seen this anywhere else.... Surely I wasn’t the only one to receive this?

I was planning on downsizing from the Max to the Pro this year because my friend’s 11 pro feels so much better to hold and the screen is only a little smaller. I don’t consume much media on my phone anymore either.

The only thing changing my mind this year is the Max and smaller Pro have different cameras unlike the 11 pro and pro max... I take a lot of photos with my phone so that’ll probably be my deciding factor.

It’s just unfortunate if the Max release date is really November because I sold my 11 pro max a few days ago and I’m using my old 6s which has been a pain... Was expecting to upgrade next week.

then just buy the 11 pro 256gb, you'd get the stainless steel, the telephoto and of course at much lesser price at bigger storage too.
