how about you try buying a new phone more often than once every 4 years. a 13 has no issues with ios 15 at all. especially if set up as new and not trying to drag in a backup you’ve been using/updating since 2007.

battery life issues on pro max models? storage bugs? sounds like that person also needs to abandon some corrupted decade old user data you’re dumping into this beautiful new device.

if not you just won the unlucky lottery. be an adult, start a return get a replacement ordered and move on.

next people will be crying about reading about “tons of known issues on forums” that “everyone is affected” when in reality it’s less than a percent of manufactured devices that just happen to be doa, that you just happened to end up with.
Wow so defensive. Lol.

it improved a lot. one ui 4 is going to be even better.

iOS is also getting worse in terms of ADs. Settings nags you to use icloud and apple services.

Most apple apples nag you to subcribe to apple services like music, podcasts, news and fitness and tv plus.

Like its annoying. iOS 6-10 was really good but after iOS 11 apple's software quality is meh.

And Windows doesn’t nag you to use OneDrive? Android doesn’t nag you to use Gmail or Gdrive? It’s nothing new, and it’s not like they do it daily, basically, it happens when you set up your iPhone, enter certain apps for the first time, that’s it.

Also, if you think iOS 7 was better than iOS 15, you’re remembering only the good things 😊 Apple’s software is ok and iOS 15 is good. And I‘d like to see One UI 4 run on a 4 year old Samsung Phone. If they get the update at all, that is.

Windows doesn’t have me to do much of anything.

Windows 10 Pro.

Biggest reason I changed my main device from iOS to Android was ... bugs. And how Apple handles them - or doesn't.
Don't get me wrong, iOS is a great OS however when there are bugs especially core long term bugs, until recently you couldn't swap core apps and keep going. You can kinda sorta these days.

These days that is still my biggest pet iOS peeve: software bugs. I expect some minor, maybe an occasional major in non-core apps however that hasn't been the case. Even with all the betas and all the bugs we file. I have far less issues with my OnePlus 9 Pro than I do with with my 12 ProMax. For me it is that simple.
You’re using a different iOS than I am. My 13 pro on 15.1 beta three runs like a dream.
For that reason alone Apple should allow older devices to stay on their originating OS model.
But they don't.
Yes, they do. See post 118 please.

Let me get this straight..

You are saying. Current software on a 4 year old iPhone is choppy, and because of that.. apple software quality is worse?

So current software on 4 year old hardware.

ok. So Apples for Apples comparison is like..

Running iOS5 on original iPhone. Cos that would be choppy as sh*t..

As would iOS6 on iPhone 3Gs. That wouldnt be SMOOTH by any means.

Grabby thread title tho
To be fair here, if Apple is going to support hardware then they should at least release software that runs well on all supported hardware, animations included. Otherwise you have some dissatisfied customers. And when that happens all hell breaks loose and you get people starting useless threads like this one.

They have a mess. Random animation lags on iOS, play next in music randomly not working (been doing this since 13?), music stops playing, airplay lag, safari freezes after video is done on airplay.

Watchos- broken now playing music controls, notifications go off on phone & watch (phone notification comes first then watch 30 seconds later), messages showing unread message received days ago.

Heck just rn the ATV aerial screen saver froze lol never had that happen before.

But they don't.
It's a difficult needle to thread: if you give people the option of downgrading to an old iOS, you suddenly need to support backporting security updates to all those older OS versions to keep users safe. If you require users to update to get the latest security fixes, you run the risk of putting a strain on old hardware that makes the devices less usable.

Apple's had devices they've updated too far for the hardware (e.g. the iPad 2/Mini getting iOS 9) and times they've held updates back without good reason (e.g. the original iPad getting capped at iOS 5 while the 3GS got iOS 6), but in the current era they seem to be getting the balance better. I have an iPhone 5S which was dropped from major updates with iOS 13, but Apple has still been regularly pushing security updates for iOS 12 (last one was less than a month ago!) despite the 5S being an 8 year-old phone. Other than a very old battery, it's a perfectly usable device!

If they keep with this LTS-style model of support for old devices (i.e. discontinuing major updates that the device can't handle but keeping up minor patches for another 2-3 versions), I'd say that's about the best I could hope for.

iOS 15 is a very buggy release and animations are choppy on my iPhone 8.

Gone are the days of smooth apple software. I have ordered a samsung phone because I want something new and iOS has gotten boring
for me.

Let's not even talk about macOS, its buggy to point where a chromebook is more stable.
Oh. Okay.
Well, that is your experience. Mine has been different (of course, I have not used an iPhone 8 in a few years. I cannot speak to what iOS 15 is like on it). iOS 15 on the 13 Pro has been great for me so far.
But, hey... thanks for coming here to announce your departure. Best of luck in your future endeavors...

Yea but you're in a way saying..
Apple can change their device support for only a year, for example. That way there wont be "dissatisfied customers" who's devices aren't peaking with current software on ancient hardware. Would love to see the reaction if they did that.

Let's not even start the conversation about whether their 5 year old iPhone would even perform 100% on its original software at that point.

The expectations that is placed on Apple by some people is so ridiculous.

"err why don't they make the lowest end 2015 phone operate as well as the 2021 max phone?"

jesus.. this thread xD

But only apple is anti-ad. Google is in the business of advertising. No one should be surprised they want to show you ads. Tim is the biggest hypocrite.

I took a break from betas. I am still seeing issues (long term) and a bunch of newer ones.
It gets tiring.
Yes, they do. See post 118 please.
This with 14.8 is new and a result of the CSAM pushback most likely. Up until now, unless your device did not support the new OS version, you got nagged or stealth installed.

Apple is anti-tracking, anti-sharing your data and pro-privacy. They never implied they are anti-ad, no company is. In fact, Apple prides itself in its marketing and the way one product motivates the sales of other products. They are very open about this.

You may dislike your iPhone prompting you to use Apple Music (once) - but they never claimed they are anti-ad. But they are anti-tracking and pro-privacy and I don’t see how they are hypocritical in this regard.

Good luck with Google.

Well 15.1 fixes a lot of issues. Not installing it because it's a beta makes no sense.

It may be new, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's there. These details matter because not everybody around here is as knowledgable.

Well said. I've always thought Apple's methods of advertising have been very tasteful and unintrusive.

Had to chuckle at this.....A couple of weeks ago I was giving a presentation via Airplay to an AppleTV. 15 minutes in and a fullscreen ad for the AppleTV+ app/service covers the whole screen yet you could still hear the presentation audio playing. Only way to dismiss it was to dig out the AppleTV remote and press 'OK'....'unintrusive' indeed.

Oh wow. Never seen anything like that.

May not make sense to you however I elected to take a break for now. Aside, I suspect 15.1 will be out soon.
For now I’ll wait. Looks like work is sending me a 13PM sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe then.

thx :)

Ohhhhh you lucky dog! I have an SE 2020 for work which I like just fine but if I could get a Max....

I think just about every version of iOS works as tended by July (10 months after it was initially released to the public.

There IS a way to avoid get hammered by undone versions iOS - don’t install it until July and don’t buy a new iPhone until Spring or Summer
