We're just a week away from the G5 launch, and still no solid good leaks of what the phone really looks like.

Whereas the S7, also being launched next week, has real pictures, and descriptions everywhere.

WTF?

I was just going to post something like this too. We know what the S7 will bring to the table since we have had a lot of leaks and images and renders from eye witnesses.
But nothing from the G5? Either it could mean LG is going to absolutely kill it with a new design and features. Or get killed and swept away from all the hype Samsung is going to throw at the S7 line.
I hope LG kills it...they better know what they are doing here.....

Alternatively it could be they are going to unveil but are months away from shipping ...

However I still think it's tactical marketing. Keep schtum until unveil and get all the attention that normally is poured over Samsung announcements.

It'll be interesting in the following week to see how much coverage (ratio) that each lg G5 / Samsung s7/edge gets in the likes of android central, verge and Engadget.

Sadly even if LG unveil a killer handset, if it's using the same UI as G3 & G4 it'll be a no touch zone for me.

Seems 2016 IMO is about software than hardware.

Of course the hardware will be great for Android this year, with all phones getting the SD820 + 4GB RAM + based off Android Marshmallow, and now having high end build quality, so performance shouldn't be an issue.

And Apple if course bringing the A10 chip, and whole new phone design, will look and perform great.

But...software, now is key more than ever. Don't care how great the S7 is, I hate Touchwiz = bloated like a beached whale. And the LG G5 may look amazing, and have best design ever, with great hardware, but LG's UI blows and is laggy. And iOS I frigging hate iOS, but Apple sure makes the best hardware, and best phone design, but they need to majorly overhaul iOS to get big Android fans to ever look at an iPhone again.

Let's see software upgrades and changes revisions in 2016 be the #1 priority, over the annual hardware upgrade.

I had the LG G3. I thought it was an amazing phone and I didn't care about the plastic. If LG can sort out their UI then I would say they have made LG G5 serious competition to the S7. LG are quicker than Samsung getting out updates.

Probably just because LG have tight security. Samsung are probably just leaking it on purpose.
However, we've seen quite a lot of case leaks. Pretty fond of these 2:

I truly am shocked on the lack of detailed leaks on the G5, only six days from official announcement, there's nothing out there on it yet, no pics of the real phone, just diagrams and sketches. Where the S7 is practically up for sale in full blown ads almost.

Man, the S7 and the G5 are going to murder the 6s in the camera department. I mean, the 6s only has an f/2.2 aperture and 1.22um pixels whereas, for example, the 6p has an f/2.0 aperture and 1.55um pixels.

I expect the S7 and G5 to have the best cameras of 2016, without a doubt.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 7 will most-likely only add OIS to the camera and that's it, since history has proved that "regular" iPhone models keep pretty-much the same camera as their "S" predecessors (happened to the 5 and the 6). I'd much rather them give us real improvements to the camera and keep it protruding rather than them focus their energy on making it smaller.

You may be pleasantly surprised in September. You never know.

The s7 and G5 should have really good cameras. I expect the iPhone to be at the least competitive as well.

I really hope so!

In fact, I wish the iPhone's camera would advance as much as the 4 did over the 3GS (rather than the 5 from 4s or 6 from 5s, all three of these examples being one-year leaps). Apple needs to stop with their mentality that the camera should only be significantly improved every two years, as we're now seeing competitors improve theirs significantly year-over-year.

They've improved the FaceTime HD camera significantly in every iPhone since the 5, why can't they do the same for the iSight camera?

It looks like the G5 is getting some second screen love like the LG V10.

They also just unveiled LG X range, which will be officially announced with the G5. One of which also has second screen on its 5" main screen. It too is on top like the V10....

Expect the G5's to be on top too ..

I know we're talking apples and oranges here, but I find it odd how professional cameras have maximum ƒ/2.8 apertures, and sometimes even as narrow as ƒ/22, then phone cameras are over here competing over which has the widest aperture. Don't wider aperture cameras have a lower focusing range? Still, I'd take better light allowance over that.
I wonder if a day will ever come where we see adjustable apertures on phones. Not that it's needed, but it would be nice.

Thats a great looking phone. Looks like the volume rockers are on the left and the wake/sleep on the right with fingerprint scanner on the back. LG just might have a winner on their hands. I know they are going to announce on 2/21 but has anyone heard of the actual sell date?

So it really looks like it's possible that it may have the sort of 'modular' case rumored earlier, where the top display slides off as jamezr posted on the thread's opening post? That would be pretty damn cool, have to admit.

Design seems not too far off from the Nexus 5X. Huge improvement over the G4, IMO.
