Can you please please please test it out on your dog? Taking photos of my dog is a main point for me, but the iPhone camera can get confused with his black and white fur and smudge it! I haven't tested the 7 Plus on him. If the G6 camera isn't too good either I may have to see what the iPhone 8 is like...

One of my main points is a camera that in auto mode takes great photos and videos of everything and my dog! If the camera can't do it, no sale.

I really am not interested in using a multitude of camera settings to 'setup' the shot.

So far from what your saying this is a no for this phone for me. I really don't want to spend a fortune, it if earns I get a new design tiny bezel or bezeless phone with a big screen and great camera then I will buy an iPhone 8 if needed.
Oh yeah black and white dogs are challenging. To make matters worse, mine is a greyhound. She only is still when she's asleep, so even with our naked eyes we aren't sure what she looks like. ;). Her tail is always wagging. She's a happy dog and almost never in focus. Even though she's quite old now, she's active when she's up and about. It's fun to take slow motion video of her, but it's not possible to get non blurry low light indoor photos of her.

And the fact that all the phones you mentioned are getting updated this year makes it even worse as a comparison for the G6.

The g6 may well be the best smartphone LG has released to date but then again the v20 may have something to say about that.

It really is like the g6 is an addition to 2016 smartphones that were released and will not be able to compete with the upcoming 2017 flagships. Factor in the current price it is commanding it isn't worth it and well you will have an outdated phone in no time.

Patience folks, you will be rewarded and very soon. :)

I'm afraid you could be right. We shall see. I hope the new Snapdragon processor is not going to be problematic in any way, even though I hope the LG G6 will be a good buy well into 2017.

You know, if Google had released exactly the G6, but with vanilla and instantly updated Android I would be ALL OVER it. With that combination it would be the best phone of 2017 (so far). I'm hesitantly optimistic about the unlocked US model and hope LG releases a bootloader unlock for it so we can get vanilla Android on there.

The only problem with that scenario is....Google wll not port the images to the G6. So you are left with Dev support for it. Not sure there is enough interest right now in the Dev community for the G6.

I meant more as if it was released as a nexus device. But yeah you're right, it's difficult to get those images if we're talking about just an unlocked bootloader. But it's better than nothing, and opens up the door for different OS even like cyanogenmod, or whatever takes its place since it's dead.

Sadly the Nexus days are over :( great devices, great prices, great specs, great support...
now you get sort of the same for three times the cost.

I never had a Nexus phone but my husband has a Nexus tablet. It's about 4 years old, I think, yet he was able to put Marshmallow on it last year and it still works very well. In fact he let me borrow it a few times and I've always liked it. But it's the one hand me down he won't hand down to me, darn it! I wish he had bought me one back in the day. I asked him to but he said I was better off going with an iPad Air. He offered me a choice and back then I was pretty stuck on my iPhone and my gigantic iPad, so I hesitated to turn down an iPad for something I didn't know very well, especially when he was talking me out of it.

My old Nexus 5 isn't going anywhere and I still kinda regret selling my first gen Nexus 7 and buying a Sony Tablet instead of the Nexus 9, because Sony couldn't be bothered to update it past Android 6 I think. Yeah dumb move by me that one.
But hey ho live and learn.

I'm still waiting to see how Google shapes up its supply, support, and service issues and then I'll think about jumping on the Pixel bandwagon. Depending how things go that will be the 2018 release, I think. LG could win me over in 2018 depending on how they handle the same issues.

Right now for Android, Samsung seems to be finally getting off its behemoth butt and making an effort at those things.

I am so glad to see LG putting in a strong offering like the LG G6. There needs to be more competition. Apple didn't really have any and look at how they've let some leads slip.

So tested the camera this evening on a little hike. The pics cane out really blurry. All I did was pointt and shoot. It was right at dusk.....
Our dog was was hardly moving in her shots. Kinda underwhelmed with the camera.

Yikes!

And I was disappointed with these 2 pics I took of my mate's bulldog's with my S7E, the guy on the right (Hulk) was moving he thought I wanted to play with him as I got closer, lol, he was made moving quite a bit, very energetic for a British Bulldog.

But those G6 pics are shocking especially for a 2017 device.

Hopefully the new updates fix that, it's still VERY early days.

Lol, both of my sisters-in-law each have those English bulldogs. They're cute but drooly and they sure do pass a lot of gas...from both ends. So do their dogs. :p

LG G6 review: A breath of fresh air

He mentions not liking the camera, but didn't mention anything about the auto-focus on moving objects. Hopefully a software update will fix some of these camera issues.
His complaint about the over processed photos is the same I've had for lo these many years of iPhone photography. Drives me nuts. My 7 Plus still does this, but to a far lesser degree and not nearly as often as my 6s Plus did. I really was very happy with the 6s Plus but that camera was  sometimes. My SE, which was supposed to have the same camera, performed a noticeable bit better somhow. But both were plagued with a white balance that blondes look a bit greenish. I see that sort of thing going on a bit on the G6 sample photos that were released in preliminary overviews.

There's a number of other reasons I'm reluctantly moving this off of my "OMG, gotta have it list" for now. I'm saying that before even seeing the Samsung event. But I will be taking a good look at it when I can find it at the Best Buy.

Oddly enough the OnePlus 3T is still on my consideration list.

Yeah but hopefully Samsung have adjusted their post processing which added far too much artificial sharpness. Which whilst great on your 5"+ screen, really is a detriment when viewed full res on a bigger screen. They (OEM's) all need to improve processing to one degree or another ....

Oh I agree about that. I remember looking at your Honor 8 vs S7 photos and that's where it really struck me, what the over sharpening was doing to fine details. Let's hope they've improved that...but this is Samsung and they love their saturation and their sharpening! So I'm not holding my breath.

The camera really needs improvement. It takes some great still shots but throw in movement and not so perfect lighting and you get blurry shots.
I would guess LG can fix it with a software up-date. But when will that happen? Their track record as with most OEMs is not that great to be honest.

So this phone is dead on arrival? Looks like it's what the G5 should have been. I hope the camera issues only effect some people and will be supported. The G5 had a great camera when i used it (despite the auto focus issue that occurred from time to time).

I don't know if it's DOA. A lot of people want the large 2:1 screen size but don't want the edges on the Samsung. The problem is that LG killed the appeal of this phone for a lot of people by giving it only 32GB onboard storage and no wireless charging except for the US. Which is absurd for a phone that is all glass!

This phone needs some tweaks to the camera, apparently. And get rid of the stupid regional differences and at least give customers in Europe and the Americas 64 GB and wireless charging. The nice DAC would also be desirable but it might be too much expecting these companies to throw western markets that much of a bone. Not everyone likes Samsung. This phone could sell if not for some decisions that might have made sense in a room full of bean counters but don't hold up to scrutiny out in the real world.

^ yep at €749 with 32gb and knowing there is no wireless charging or Quad DAC because some apparent focus group said they weren't bothered is like taking my wallet out of my pocket and replacing it with a knife in my side.

It's why if I was to buy, I'd wait for the inevitable price fall (lg's fall quickly) and buy an Asian import at least I'd get the quad DAC and wouldn't be raped financially in the process.

I think someone already mentioned it. Pixel based on LG G6 would've would've been a winner otherwise it's no match for the Galaxy S8 series.

I've become a bargin hunter with android high end phones.

I picked up lg g5 for essentially $120 on att two weeks ago. Happy with it.

Lg simply cannot compete charging $700 for their flagship phones. I won't pay that much for the lg g6. Simply cause I know the price will drop significantly a couple of months after its release.

Buy the lg g6 if you guys want. But I would only do it if it comes with big promo like Verizon pre order promo. Don't pay full price.

Same with any cell phone these days including Samsung and Apple.

Yeah as much as it intrigues me, €749 is a disincentive currently especially given its resale won't hold and it's only €50 less than the S8.

I would buy for €500 and that's what I'm waiting it to fall too before I take the plunge.
