Got offered a Korean platinum 64gb G6 with Quad Dac for €560 brand new....
So i took the plunge .... Will have it Wednesday :)

You cannot be stopped! I came thisclose to giving it a run but with the S8 nipping at its heels I just wouldn't have enough time with the new toy.

That quick of a turnaround? Nice.
Yeah, it's not even launched in Europe yet and considering i was looking at the Amazon.de 32gb EU model for €749 it was a no brainier. Even getting a new tempered screen protector and case thrown in ....

Ok it's not the white version which i had eyes on, but hey at near €200 saving and €250 cheaper than the S8 here ...

Worse case scenario if I hate it, even after a couple of months I won't lose a whole pile of €€ re-selling it.

Considering it's a flat screen, IP67 resistant, offers a SD slot, slightly better processor over the S7/S7E, and similar specs to the S8, you're fine skipping this Sammy offering.

Also look forward to thoughts.
We got a G6 in at CPW last week but I'm not in until Wednesday so will get to try one out myself then too. :)

I've never actually had an LG smartphone before. I was always put off by their skin and plastic phones. This is the first that has really appealed to me and i don't even mind the skin from what I've seen on videos, but of course that can all change in practice.

Discounted and unlocked would make me take the plunge.

I took the plunge since I went with Jump on Demand. Plan is to upgrade to the Note 8 preferably. If Apple somehow manages to surprise me, then iPhone OLED model for me instead.

Just had a play with our G6.
Not out as a demo yet so I could actually hold it which was a nice change.

took me quite a while to figure it how to turn it on, didn't realise the fingerprint scanner was actually a button!

After 2 minutes of powering it up I was sold. The feel of the phone (if a little thick) is lovely. I loved the flat screen, the screen itself was bright and colours looked good. The screen size was perfect for me.

we have the silver colour but it looks a bit blue under our lights. Couldn't take a photo to test camera coz wasn't charged enough to allow the camera to open. I'm here til 5:30 so have all day to play!

all in all I was really impressed with it. To be honest I kinda preferred it to the S8 as soon as I held it. How I will deal with the thin-ness and lack of bezel on that device when I get it tomorrow remains to be seen.

will post more thoughts once I've had a little longer playing. Won't be in depth as I cant so much with it but early impressions are very positive.

@mru

How are you getting along with the LG skin?
Have you had chance to rest the camera?

Using ASAP launcher and ALOS icons.

Actually the skin otherwise isnt too bad but ...
Korean import has some inherent issues such as a half dozen apps that cannot be deleted. Thankfully they can be hidden regardless of which launcher you choose to utilise.

Though small elements of Korean linger here and there.

Also the device thinks it's roaming internationally so you have to override the roaming settings and it took me a little while to find an app to hide the clock on the lockscreen from showing a dual clock. Had to use a third party app to access a hidden setting to turn of roaming clocks.

Whilst the device is generally speedy it's definitely not as fast or problem free as the pixel. I have had a couple of device crashes and a couple of app crashes, something I'm just not used too with the pixel.

Haven't had much chance to test out the camera fully yet but from what I've seen the device over processes / sharpens images. May have to play around with settings.

Essentially it's another android you have to tinker with to deal with typical jank and bugs / issues. It reminds me why the pixel was such a breath of fresh air android wise in the first place.

The screen is excellent, outdoor visibility is very good. Still getting used to the power button being in the same location as the finger print reader.

I can see myself using the device for a while but crucially then inevitably trading it in at some point. Especially if i get any more general stability issues.

Yet its still the much better android device tbh.

As the expression goes "you can't live on a pretty view" ....

Interesting, why do you say that? I'm still mildly interested in the G6 as I find the flat front superior to the S8 family. But I'm not really chomping at the bit to get an android phone anyhow, I don't think any android phone really has inspired that compulsion to spend money. Well maybe some off shore phones have like the Mi Mix, but they won't work in the states.

I think I'm going to hit BB tomorrow to fondle the G6 in person. I'm quite afraid I may walk out with a S8+ preorder though, or maybe that G6, so maybe I should stay away. I'm trying to be patient until I have to decide between the Note 8 and the iPhone 8, my usual decision of the year.

That's discouraging hearing about the software, I have some interest in the G6, but price and software is what's holding me back. I had an Optimus G Pro back in the day and I thought the software was actually kind of good, but then I got an LG G2 and man the software seemed to have gone backwards and I haven't gotten an LG since. (Not counting the Nexus 5)

Simple really. As pretty a device like the G6 is, and it is very pretty. The 'robust' and chunkier Pixel just feels more solid all round. You dont have to tweak, hide apps / remove bloat, deal with minor stability issues ... It may not be as pretty, but the pixel is thd more solid device if you just want to enjoy your device and apps, not spend the time 'making it work for you', instead it just works.

But if you are willing to deal with android quirks, deal with the time to make it work as you want it to, resounded to the odd bit of stability wobbles (as much as any other non google android device) then i can see a heck of a lot to like about the G6.
