How are people finding/reviewing the LG skin over Android?

I ask because there is so much scrutiny and high standard for the TouchWiz skin to be this perfect operating system, I wonder how LG's skin fares.

For that matter, how is the LG skin on the V20? Is it the same as the G6?

From the reviews I've watched. The G6 skin is very similar(if not the same) to the V20 skin. Basically, it looks identical.

The V20 skin is buttery smooth. Probably had about only 2 or 3 hiccups since I had it. Design wise, it feels like an older version of Touchwiz with almost no extra features. It does have a theme store, but no icon store. I do love the fact, that even though the grid limit is 5x5, you can put up to 7 app icons on the dock. The settings is menu is as good as it gets. The onscreen buttons are very customizable when it comes to placement, and you can five of them at the same time.

I usually have 1.7GB free out of 3.7GB RAM.

One thing I really like is the LG Backup, being able to backup the entire phone to external storage is great.

IMO, the LG skin is a little boring, to the point of ... just give me vanilla android with several LG apps and customization.

And in my brief time with the V20, standby time was amazing. Almost iOS-like

@jamezr now that you have had the G6 a while are you ready to commit to it or has the camera experience put you off ?
In the end the camera woes would not let me keep the G6. i sent it back to TMO. I will get the S8 and S8+ and decide which one I like best. I have played with both at BB and TMO stores and can't decide tbh.

The G6 was the best LG phone produced yet imho. The design and performance is every bit as good as the iphone and Pixel. Maybe a little narrow for my big hands but that is user preference. I liked the G6 but camera is really high on my list for having a smartphone. Maybe the issue I had can be fixed with a software update...but when will that happen and when will the carriers release it?
I can always get it again down the road :)

Yeah I am holding off until both price is down and camera is improved hopefully via software otherwise like yourself I'll only end up being frustrated ...

What a shame. If this had 64GB and better camera performance I would pick it over the S8 because I do prefer flat. As beautiful as the S8 is, I still maintain that flat is where it's at for me. It's just more practical and rugged and I like the look of it, very classic. I also really did like the headphone jack being on the top like it used to be on iPhones long, long ago. And I liked their camera software that takes advantage of the long display so well.

The situation is what it is, though. And I still want another year to watch how LG treats its customers and keeps up with updates.

Everybody is on probation for me this year.

This is the year I see if Samsungs are the bloated lag wagons everyone says or if they break out of that. And how will they keep up with updates.

I've got my eye on Google, as to how seriously they are taking Pixel...will they get customer service and supply up to snuff? Who is building these Pixels for them this year and will they refine the design, add water resistance and such bells and whistles we expect now for those flagship prices they are charging?

This is the year I see if Apple management is still puffed up and arrogant and slow to answer the competition and what their plans for the ecosystem are. As a business customer my husband has been annoyed with Apple for awhile now and he's positively furious that he's likely to lose the services of the Apple Store business manager who has helped him so much over the past few years. There is so much to wonder about where Apple is concerned right now, but at least as far as iOS goes at least we know Apple is keen on it. It's just the rest of the ecosystem my family wonders about.

The camera part is what's putting me off the most and buying blind. I know i can usually make the worst camera phones get good results, but i don't want to gamble anymore on devices.

Add the fact of the SKU regional disparity. As much i really like the look and even the software looks ok, I'm being put off ...

I agree. This doesn't cut it. The way I see it now:

-For top of the line, it's either Samsung or Google.
-Then for second tier, it's probably LG leading the pack, but also OnePlus, and maybe HTC if the HTC U is anything...
-Then third tier are like Sony, Motorola, and other miscellaneous OEMs.

I was hoping LG would sit up there with Samsung/Google as a great alternative third choice. Perhaps a software update in the near future can help them with some of the shortcomings...

The Verge's G6 review: http://www.theverge.com/2017/4/5/15188830/lg-g6-2017-review-phone-specs

Not particularly flattering :T

LG G6

7.7

GOOD STUFF:
  • Beautiful, huge screen
  • Attractive design
  • Good performance
BAD STUFF:
  • LG’s software design
  • Small power button is fiddly
  • Cameras are only acceptable

I find the software to be good. But the home screen design(especially the folders), do look dated. And I agree with Verge about Q Slide. Not only does it look like something from the Jellybean days, but it's not needed and very limited.

I held a G6 in my hand today and I have to say it's a really really nice phone. By far the nicest LG phone ever. After having an S7 edge I would actually prefer the flat design again. I mean the edge is cool, but it seems more exposed. Screen protectors don't work well and the screen is somewhat easy to scratch since it's so exposed. Design wise I feel the G6 is a homerun. It's a big screen, but it's easy to hold.

The camera isn't that bad as people make it be. Learn to use manual mode. But here is a thread with tons of pics and discussion about it.

I had a bad experience with the G6. Blurry pic after blurry pic. If the software update fixes those issues i might get the G6 again. It took great still shots in perfect lighting. But throw some movement and not so good lighting and it fell apart really fast.

And a wonderful manual mode does not take into account real life.

haha, yep. I'll tell that to my 18 month old daughter. She's almost too fast and can't sit still enough for the best "auto mode" cameras out there, let alone sitting around playing with a camera's manual controls :p

For the people that don't like LGs skin why not just use Google's launcher or Nova etc? I installed Google's launcher which is free as works great in my opinion. Also I must be the only one that thinks the camera is really good! I really appreciate the wide angle lens. I sell stock photography on Shutterstock and already got some shots accepted from the G6. Here are two videos I uploaded below.

Lol, both of my sisters-in-law each have those English bulldogs. They're cute but drooly and they sure do pass a lot of gas...from both ends. So do their dogs. :p
LOL! Yep they are cute and cuddly buggers but yep, they drool and pass near lethal amounts of gas, LOL! We are going into winter now down here and I just know when I go to my mate's new place we will have to bare the gas on movie nights
