Simple really. As pretty a device like the G6 is, and it is very pretty. The 'robust' and chunkier Pixel just feels more solid all round. You dont have to tweak, hide apps / remove bloat, deal with minor stability issues ... It may not be as pretty, but the pixel is thd more solid device if you just want to enjoy your device and apps, not spend the time 'making it work for you', instead it just works.

But if you are willing to deal with android quirks, deal with the time to make it work as you want it to, resounded to the odd bit of stability wobbles (as much as any other non google android device) then i can see a heck of a lot to like about the G6.

The pixel is a nice start for Google in the flagship market. It made sense for google, as they can obviously control both hardware, software, and support. The things you like are echoed by many iPhone users as well who like their devices. I think the pixel 2 will be much improved too.

It's apparent that android basically competes within itself and google can offer something no other oem can to stand out.

Yep the pixel is very much akin and the closest android wise the smooth sailing we enjoy with ios devices.

Downloading a software update 465mb.

Got 5 hours SOT today with device being off charge on battery for 16 hours. Not too bad, not mind blowing but workable.

465 mb later and we go from 7.0 March update to 7.0 April ...

Got mine. Already put ASAP on it to match my pixel.

Surprised it's nearly the same size as my pixel !!!
Congratulations!

I was going to say you have a problem, but there are indeed much MUUUUCH worse things one could be addicted to.

Enjoy it!

Can't wait for you to compare it to the S8+ you will eventually cave for

Quit tempting me, I was actually checking prices on at&t this morning, and the black model looks awesome too. Good thing for me at&t charges the same for a 32gb G6 as they do an S8, makes it easier to resist.

Let me tell you guys, yesterday when I was trying to snap pictures of planes and rockets in narrow confines in the Air and Space Museum in DC, I was so wishing I had the LG G6 wide angle lens system. Trying to take selfies of myself with the beautiful backgrounds of memorials behind me was pretty hopeless with the iPhone 7Plus. :(

I got some beautiful photos but bits and pieces of planes and rockets were chopped out. Sigh. I don't think the S8+ gives that much wider a field of view except for the front facing camera.
[doublepost=1492823898][/doublepost]@MRU those pictures are gorgeous. But I'm beginning to think it's the photographer, not the camera phone. I think you could get gorgeous photos out of my old Treo 650 camera! There's just a "presence" your pictures have that is above and beyond my most carefully composed snaps on any of my latest and greatest smartphones and other sample photos I've seen other people take to show off what a camera phone can do.

Dude, you made seagull poop look good!

Lol. The wide angle is really great and definitely something I would like to see on all flagship phones going forward.

Re photos, well I did make the HTC M7 take decent snaps ;)

The Pixel is kind of a miracle phone. It reminds me of the Blackberry Curve back in the day. There were flashier phones on the market but the BB Curve was a workhorse. Chewed everything you threw at it and spit it out. Pixel is possibly the best smartphone experience I've had thus far, and that's coming from someone that used an iPhone as his daily driver.

I'm looking forward to triple lens phones... for Standard, wide angle, and portrait shots.

I found the wide angle on the G5 useful and use portrait on the 7 Plus every day.

I feel Samsung missed a trick by not revamping the camera on the S8.

I think they lost time and resources on trying to sort out the Note7 mess and ran out of time to put so many new features into the S8. Even without factoring in having to design and build testing facilities for the Note 7's, they were working on so many innovations for the S8 and ran out of time and probably space, too. As it is they had to squash the fingerprint sensor ina bad location. The sensor at least is new. The Note 8 may end up with dual cameras.

Oh I can see how Samsung focused on other areas and the limitations on time etc. There's only so much to do in a year or less.

Interesting to see Xiaomi go like-for-like with the iPhone 7 Plus (portrait style) on their upcoming Mi6. They'll make it even harder for LG and Samsung to recover ground in the Chinese market. Especially when it's the equivalent of US $360.

I like how LG kept their dual setup and hope they improve on the software and post processing side. Really liked how I could get way more in a shot e.g. when at my son's school in small classrooms.

Being greedy, I'm wanting triple lenses to cover all scenarios.

I was absolutely thrilled with the camera setup on the LG G6. I came more close than you all will know to buying a case for the G6 in anticipation of ordering one. I actually had the case all picked out. I still like the looks and the wide angle cameras. I just knew that realistically I was going to need and use more onboard storage than they were providing to US and European customers. So I held back and decided that the S8+ was going to be a better choice for me. But yeah, I'd love triple cameras, myself. Omg I just nodded off to sleep while writing that last sentence. I'd better get to bed before I put everyone else to sleep reading my writing. That was unexpected but I guess it beats the time I fell asleep on the toilet and fell off.:oops::eek: I know, tmi...off I go to bed...have a great weekend everyone!

So how is the camera functionally? Does it focus slowly and not great on fast moving subjects? How is low light performance? These were complaints others had so I'm curious if you've found them. Oh and nice pics, I'm jealous as usual.

Not had any real problems with it to be honest. Maybe i just have magic fingers but I am not doing anything out of the ordinary. I left HDR on and used both the wide angle and regular cameras with auto on (just touch to focus) and snap. But yeah not had the problems others have reported, but there was that 468mb update the previous night before my trip to Dublin so maybe there was some camera improvements in that ? ...

It's the wide angle and ability to switch between ad-hoc that makes the camera strengths. I think the Pixel is better regular camera especially post processing wise, but genuinely if the G6 was my only phone, camera wise, I wouldn't be disappointed based on my own experience with it.

But as with everything YMMV as we all use devices differently ...

Good to hear. I must say those pics are impressive. I've yet to fondle the s8 and g6 side by side, I keep making excuses because I know I'll walk out with one. I don't mind having multiple phones, but it's just such a pita when one of them is tied to apples ecosystem.

Wow those Dublin pics look amazing, what kind of pp did you do?
Just a vintage filter in Snapseed for some and just removed saturation for the B&W ones.

Didn't need to do any HDR adjustments as the HDR on the camera was more than enough.
