Just a correction for some wrong info I posted earlier re: resolution changing on the G6.

You can do this it is in the performance settings and is reserved for Games to get better performance and save battery.

Much like how Samsung used to reserve it for game centre where the option would have best effect.

Just giving LG's own launcher a try as I pretty much used ASAP since I got the device. It's actually pretty good and very fast once it's cleaned up and apps put in folders or hidden.

Do you utilize LG's Smartworld App Store?

Yeah it's really slow and has crappy content here in Ireland. Quicker to look for themes directly off the playstore tbh.
Wow that's a shame. I was surprised that HTC had a decent theme store. I don't remember what other content they sold but I enjoyed their themes and icons. I do a lot of shopping in Samsung's store these days.

Just broke the 6 hour SOT with 16 hours on battery usage with 5% remaining.

Not bad for a phone with AOD and LCD WQHD+ display.

I tried his themes and wasn't overly impressed with how they work in practice tbh. He has changed the override for the navbar for example so you can now no longer choose a lighter version (which looks better when using the white G6 or using a full screen app like Tapatalk)

MRU amazing photography again, you truly are gifted.

So it seems you are liking your LG G6 ? Is this a keep phone for you ? Or are you getting the S8 / S8+ too ?

Curious your overall thoughts on the G6, and if you plan to keep it long term, or will be getting a future phone as soon as available, like the OnePlus 5 or Pixel 2 ?

Probably will skip the S8 now, but I will undoubtedly pick up the Pixel 2.

Tbh, this sized screen and overall size of the G6 and the wide angle lens from the G6 with the Google pixels main camera and my preference which is stock android and I would be in absolute heaven.

It's all up to you Google are you listening ?

Overall re: the G6 it's a really nice device and love the feel in the hand. Screen is fantastic and I do love the flexibility the cameras provide.

There are still issues with LG's skin stalling/lagging now and again and of course a few apps you can't remove but are really crappy like LG's smartworld app.

I'm very happy with the price I paid for it but yeah, if this ran stock android I would be a happier bunny.

that is a bunch more than I get with my Pixel XL, I usually get 4.5 or so
Yeah but it can be inconsistent (as android tends to be) .. I have 52% left on battery now with 2hr 38mins of SOT. But have used the device outside a lot today so auto brightness kicks in overdrive (it gets brighter outdoors in auto brightness enabled than the highest manual setting) so I guess that's still good.

And how's the screen outdoors ? Is the G6 as good or better outside then the 7 Plus ?

I'm curious about this as well. The 7+ sucks outdoors, I'd hope the G6 is better. I'd be curious as to how it stacks up against Samsung as well.
[doublepost=1494255188][/doublepost]G6 has LCD or AMOLED ?

LCD. It's better than the Amoled in my Pixel outdoors but my iPhone 7 is still easier to see outdoors. The S8 will be one of the brightest displays.

I have seen reviews of the G6 criticise about outdoor viewing but they were manually adjusting brightness and if you do that it doesn't go into the super-bright mode that leaving in auto does.

Just saw that my phone is downloading a software update - not sure which it is. Hopefully this brings something greater than just security update. It would be nice to see 7.1 at least.

(I suspect it's just the same update they pushed out the Korean variant a couple weeks ago as it's around same size. 650mb)

Update.

Yep same as Korean update as now have April security patch and still 7.0

At least there was some battery & camera improvements with the Korean patch so hopefully these will make the Euro model better too :)

Samsung and LG need to get on the ball ASAP and get 7.1 pushed out to these phones. Quite sad they are still on 7.0 but at least have April security patches.

A photo comparison - point and click no editing. This shows whilst initially there isn't too much difference, the G6 appears a tiny bit sharper and colder (bluer white point) but the Pixel dog hair doesn't get burned out and is closer to reality.

Either shot would be nice enough in fairness. But its when we blow up we really see how the LG (much like Samsung) over-sharpening actually hurts image quality.

I wish there was a way to turn off the sharpening. I will experiment with Manual, but the problem with manual mode is it really isn't suitable for that 'moment to moment' capture ...

Out shopping with my wife, walked into a VZW store to kill some time waiting for her. I looked for a G6 to play with. Didn't see any on display. Asked a sales rep if they had any. He said he could bring one out for me but they don't bother displaying because they don't like selling them and no one cares.

So you mean no one is interested in a phone you won't display and don't want to sell? Okay then.

My heart goes out to OEMs not Samsung or Apple in those stores.

God that is so annoying. It's the same here. None of the Irish carriers are carrying it at all whereas they stock like a bazillion iPhone and Samsung models. It's so hard for these other OEM's to ever get a foot in the door. I feel like by using the G6 I'm supporting the 'underdog' of 2017. The more I use it daily, the more I like the device too. I'm sure had the carriers got behind the device and LG aggressively priced the device it would do really well. But alas, nope.

Battery has got better since last update too. 16 hours on battery so far today at 51% remaining and I have 3.5 hours SOT .... That's really good.

Isn't LG back at number 3 phone seller with the G6? Wow could you imagine how well they could do if the carriers actually pushed them. I'm definitely rooting for LG as we need some more competition.

Yeah I assume it must be selling reasonably well in Asia and other markets to put them back at Number 3 globally. But they are still miles behind Apple & Sammy. We need the competition and having a market utterly dominated by just two manufacturers isn't great for choice. I don't blame the carriers completely as the G5 was a disaster, but it's a shame to hear of such ongoing disinterest from some carrier stores.

Went to T-Mobile yesterday and man was everyone there trying to thier hardest to discredit and diss the G6. They were so pro Samsung or iPhone and nothing else. And I went to 2 different stores and same attitude from everyone. Between like 5 salesperson they all said stay away from LG.

I walked out with a new S8+

Fast forward to today I returned it LOL. Rely nice phone and great battery life I could tell from just one day. But something about it just didn't feel right or comfortable. I hated the way to turn the screen on I prefer raise to wake now. Or at least double tap 2 wake.

Other stuff that turned me off. Hard to pinpoint. Just wonky ways Samsung phones operate, not my cup of tea anymore I guess.

It felt weird too. I had a case + screen protector and it felt squishy and funny feeling.

Curved screen was ok but not amazing.

It was both super fast but also had a hair bit of lag in areas you would least expect but not a deal breaker just sort of ruined the experience.

It's a great phone sure, but I'm way too picky. Looking for a phone that doesn't exist.

Ended day at 9% remaining with 23 hours on battery overall and a screen on time of 6.5 hours. That's one of the best SOT I have ever got from any of my android devices.

One plus 5?

Tmobile is doing a BOGO for the g6 now(refunded via rebate either email or mail in). Then also you can still get the pad tablet on top of it.
