By Google searching the file name I found the file is being hosted at this site.

I just downloaded it and compared the MD5 hash to the version I have saved I got from LG, and it is the same and unaltered, so I'd say safe for you to use.

Code:
My-Macbook:~ uname$ md5 /Users/uname/Downloads/LGScreenManager_2.08.zip
MD5 (/Users/uname/Downloads/LGScreenManager_2.08.zip) = e17970369885bacd9f2899c7b33df4df
My-Macbook:~ uname$ md5 /Users/uname/Storage/App\ Installers/LGScreenManager_2.08.zip
MD5 (/Users/uname/Storage/App Installers/LGScreenManager_2.08.zip) = e17970369885bacd9f2899c7b33df4df

Thanks very much. I was able to download v 2.08 from this GitHub repo.
Upon installing the app downloaded the 2.09 update which told me that I have the latest firmware.

I just switched from a 2016 15" to a 2018 13". Absolutely love how I can just plug in the same cable for power, display and connection to some hard drives. This convenience can't be overstated.

The 2018 13" powers it smoothly enough until you tax the CPU (above 60% from my observation), it gets pretty choppy but not to the point that it becomes unresponsive. Wondering if I should grab that Blackmagic eGPU next...

The convenience of the TB3 port sold me on the Ultrafine 5k. As for the choppiness, I've resorted to enabl;ing reduce motion in accessibility settings. I kind of like it.

Forgot to say, gets even better with True Tone on the new MacBook Pro devices.

Buying this during the great USB-C discount of 2016 was a great “investment”!

Good morning,

I have a LG UltraFine 27" IPS LED 5K UHD Monitor (27MD5KA) and the Thunderbolt connector has stopped working properly. It only works when the cable is in a one very particular position (yes I have tried different cables). I seems to be it's a bad connection from the port to the board inside the monitor.

My question is: has anyone ran across disassembly instructions or any kind of repair documentation for this monitor? I can alway send it back to LG but I want to at least open it up and look at it myself first.

random maybe but: after thinking I decide wait to see if apple or lg release something new, if not I go to buy a "non" apple LG monitor, there's other good options for $500 around.

Not sure what you mean by "investment" but for the money (w/discount) it was excellent value at the time (I've had my shielding fixed version for 16 months, now). Set to 'looks like 2880 x 1620'. Haven't had any issues like the posters above have mentioned.

true but... there's a plenty quality 4Ks around.
I hold my money and wait to see if apple do something about it, a refresh of this 5K or something...

Dunno. 4K is an odd middle ground. I'd just buy a cheap/decent 27" 1440p for now.

Opening up the LG 5K display is pretty straightforward really. It has a few obvious screws plus a bunch of little plastic "snaps" around the perimeter. These require patience and a bunch of old credit cards or guitar picks to spring open without damage but it can certainly be done. After that it's a case of taking out more screws and disconnecting various connectors, taking particular care with the power supply which could retain dangerous voltages for a while after disconnection.

Forgive me being blunt but quite honestly, if you had to ask how to take it apart then it suggests to me that you are probably better off leaving it alone and try to get LG to service it for you. It sounds like you probably need a new USB hub assembly as the connector is probably damaged or the solder connection broken. I don't think there is any likely scenario where opening the display yourself will lead to a good outcome.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here can operate the USB-C ports at the back of the LG Ultrafine 5K monitor at close to the market speed of 5Gbps?

I was testing my ethernet speed with 2 different ethernet adapters and found that when these adapters were plugged directly into my MacBook Pro, I have no problem getting pass 900mbps down / 900mbps up.

As soon as these adapters were plugged into the USB-C ports at the back of the monitor, I get speed at around 300mbps down / 600mbps up.

After some extra Googling, I found a few other reports of this capped speed.
https://forums.appleinsider.com/dis...ith-thunderbolt-3-for-apples-2016-macbook-pro
and
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/lg-5k-monitor-usb-c-gigabit-ethernet-adapter.2062660/

I have reached out to LG and the support staff said I should be seeing a speed of up to 5Gbps and that my unit might be faulty and I should ship it back to them for some testings.

Has anyone here experienced similar speed issue or is my capped USB-C speed really is a hardware defect?

We got an new 1 Gbps fiber internet this week, after which we found out that the black Belkin USB-C to Ethernet Gigabit adapter attached to the hub on the backside of LG UltraFine 5K gave only 200 Mbps download and 500 Mbps upload throughput (latency was good though, 3-4 ms). Changing ports didn't help, couldn't test the adapter straigth to MacBook Pro 13" because 2015 model and no USB-C ports. With other Thunderbird to Ethernet Gigabit adapter the throughput was good 940 Mbps / 940 Mbps.

We updated the firmware of the UltraFine 5K to the newest, no difference in the throughput, update took around 15 minutes, quite long.

Then we updated the driver for macOS, black Belkin F2CU040 has Realtek chip inside, so we went with this:
MAC OS 10.6 to 10.13, version 1.0.17 2017/12/19 184k
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads...=56&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

After the driver update (and restart of the macOS), the throughput is 940 Mbps / 940 Mbps.

The UltraFine 5K is an excellent display, this was the first problem in the last year of using it, no other problems or bugs that we have found out.

let me give this a try.
maybe it will fix my issue above...

I'm in the same boat, my LG 5k has stopped working (blank screen), and I'm no technician. The day before it failed, there were a few instances of the screen turning off and then coming back on within 5 seconds or so. So it seems that something was failing. Then the screen just died completely, and no amount of rebooting and replugging had any effect.

My question is: I finally got LG to arrange for the monitor to be picked up for repairs (took a long time - their customer service is very un-Apple like). The instructions say that I should only return the monitor, with the stand detached and no cables. The dude I spoke to on the phone (a few times) also said (twice) "do not put any cables in the box, or you may not get it back." But what if the problem is actually with the cable? How likely is that? If that was the case, they will tell me the monitor is fine when they connect another cable, and they'll laugh at me and send it back and the problem will not be solved because I still have the same cable....

I could buy a cable to test this scenario myself, but they're quite expensive and it feels like LG should replace the cable if it's faulty (I only bought the monitor a few months ago). Should I include the cable, despite the instructions? Or is the likelihood that the fault is something like the connector is damaged?

Mine is doing the same thing, but not as bad or frequent as yours. About once a week it will just go black, then come back on after five seconds, then all is well for another week or so. I bought the Belkin cable to test the cable theory and it did not help, so I'm guessing your issue is not the cable.

Hey guys, so I just got my LG UltraFine 5K display delivered from Apple on Thursday and I’ve been playing around with it. I’ve looked through the thread a few times and found that a few people have had issues with backlight bleed. I’ve been trying to check my own display for these issues and was wondering if this should be enough for me to return the display and ask for another one from Apple or if I should contact LG themselves? I’ve kept the receipt and have the SN and all that fun stuff. I’ve attached a photo showing where, in my eyes, the most backlight bleed shows.

As above, that's typical on these displays, in fact it's typical on most low-to-mid priced LCD computer displays and TVs (we're not on OLED's here!).

AFAIU, only super-highend displays get better quality panels and/or backlighting control and testing in factory. Things like expensive Eizo displays (eg. for hospitals, video/pics print editing, or whoever), and only top-end multi-thousand £$€ TV's (for the few people who can afford to splurge on such luxuries).

Although, a quick look at Eizo, and strangely they don't even do high 200+ dpi 5K displays:

[doublepost=1538322037][/doublepost]Anyone on Mojave yet with one/two of these displays? If so, any issues you've noticed?

Sweet, I appreciate the reply. Got it discounted so I guess I can’t complain too much! Plus, when I’m watching things normally, I never notice it so I’m sure it won’t be a bother
