No problems with Mojave here. Still no ability to set auto brightness though, which makes me think the light sensor on thhis monitor is never gonna be used.

Yeah it's a bit of a pain. As during the day I like it bright, and as evening draws in, for it to be dimmer.

Is there any way to set the brightness on all three screens at the same time (15MBP 2016 & two LG 5K's)?
I ask because at the moment all I seem to be able to do is "option key + touchbar brightness button" to get the three separate screen brightness control windows to appear on each screen, then manually go to each one and slide the control up/down as required. It'd be better if one slider could control all three screens at the same time, so they'd match exactly (instead of the rough guess by doing each manually!).

Hey guys, just got this monitor and loving the display so far... by far the best display I've ever owned. Coming from an LG 34UC87M I definitely see an improvement in clarity though I do miss the screen real estate a little bit...

A few connectivity questions:

I have the following equipment I want to connect up.

- MacBook Pro 13" (2018)
- Lacie 2big 16TB (new model with sd card reader/etc)

What's the best way to connect everything up? Obviously monitor to laptop via 1 cable but should I connect the hard drive directly to my MacBook or can I connect via the USB-C ports on the back of the monitor?

For some odd reason the hard drive is actually showing as faster via Blackmagic if I connect via USB-C (USB3) vs connecting directly to my MacBook via the TB3 port so I am thinking I will use 1 cable between monitor and MacBook and then connect everything else through the hub on the monitor?

Anyway, appreciate some feedback from those with a similar situation that might be able to chime in with their suggestions.

Also one other question is if I wanted to daisy chain another monitor from the 5k to another monitor would that work?

Thanks!

I would love to hear your thoughts on the ability of the 2018 13" to drive the 5K LG. Is it smooth? Any stuttering or lagging? Do the fans come on often? Thanks!

I'm using that combo and have no stuttering or lag at all, but any HD video like 1080p Youtube for example will quickly ramp up the fans. But other than that, I never hear the fans at all.

Same here no issues so far with stuttering/lag but unsure whether I'll have issues if I want dual display down the line.

I've got one cable from MBP to LG 5K. Then from the back of the monitor, it goes to a USB 3 hub for some hard drives, and an older USB 2 hub for keyboard, mouse, printer.

It's amazing that that one cable carries power, video, data.

Any recommendations for settings in preferences to have better results with sleep/wake issues? Seems like when I’m away for my computer for a while (1+ hours) when I come back it won’t wake up. I keep my laptop closed all the time when connected to my monitor... Usually I have to open the lid and disconnect/reconnect the monitor.

I’m wondering if power nap has anything to do with the issues?

I just got a new 2018 MBP (running Mojave) and LG UltraFine 5K. I get very intermittent sleep/wake problems. About once every day or two the Mac wakes up but the LG display stays dark. Unplugging and replugging the LG's Thunderbolt cable wakes it up. The LG display has the latest firmware.

I think that checking "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" might keep the problem from happening, but it happens so infrequently I am not sure.

I understand this problem was very common when the display was first introduced but less common now. Is anyone else here seeing it happen? Are there any solutions?

Thanks for the help!

Not exactly the right thread for this but the LG 34WK95U is live on microcenter's website as a FYI... saw it in a reddit thread.

Apparently people are having all kinds of connectivity issues now which sounds similar to the 5k monitor experience people had early on... you'd think that having announced this monitor nearly a year ago they would have worked all that stuff out at least with the 2018 model MacBook pros.

I'm on the fence whether or not I should return my 27" or not. I got a pretty good deal on it with my work discount (10%) and I like it enough but I feel like I might get better bang for my buck with a 4K monitor with 2 thunderbolt 3 ports... at least then I could properly daisy chain from my monitor to other TB3 devices. Problem is I can't find any monitors currently available that meet these requirements.

Anyone else have suggestions? There's the Samsung CJ791 but that monitor doesn't really get me all that excited given the sub 4K resolution and lack of reviews.

I upgraded my 2016 MBP to a 2018 and while the 2016 finally ended up working perfectly with the LG 5K, the 2018 has been a nightmare. It will take Apple or LG to release further updates to fix the bugs. We can only wait.

Just picked mine up today. Is there a way to have it so the brightness of my MBP also changes the brightness of the display?

So pretty much the LG would mirror the brightness I have the MBP set at.

Why still to this day have they now implemented the ambient sensor anyway?

Unfortunately, no AFAIK. Make sure you update the monitor to the latest firmware though, some of us were stuck for months with sleep/wake issues and uneven volume controls because LG own app insisted older versions were still current.

What is the consensus on image retention?

I have seen reports of over time image retention becoming a problem. The older the panel becomes the more prone.

When it is new, I have read, It will not show retention. So this seems as if it could be a really ugly experience to run into down the road when your warranty is expired.

Are these old reports, have the panels been changed since..or is this still a valid issue?

I've had mine for a year and 4 months now, and no image retention whatsoever. I would expect the newer stock to have better QC measures in place, but it is LG we're talking about here...

In any case, the picture quality is amazing. I can't go back to anything less than a P3 display anymore. The only thing missing (aesthetics aside) is another thunderbolt 3 port so monitors can be daisy-chained like the old Cinema Displays. And maybe another USB-C port.

Whats everyone running these things in...clamshell or dual monitor?

I was running clamshell but had issues waking from sleep... though I don't think this is a particular issue with the 5k since I've had that issue with other monitors in the past.

That being said, I returned the monitor yesterday and got a 32UD99 instead. Saved a good chunk of change and got a bigger monitor. So far no real issues with the 32UD99 but I do miss the screen pop on the 5k and will miss the ability to use the keyboard for volume control/etc.

One other thing, my MBP by default is on the Color LCD profile and the Ultrafine was on its own LG Ultrafine profile....what profiles should I be using and should they both be the same?

I do a lot of photography and post processing in PS and Lr.

I use the LG Ultrafine profile as a starting point, then tweaked it using the advanced calibration settings. That seems to give it a natural look like I want.

I tried installing the Realtek RTL8153 driver.
It fixed the capped speed issue but I have encountered another weird problem when using this driver.
I noticed that if you disconnect the adapter from your computer (either from back of LG Ultrafine monitor or from another Thunderbolt port), and then reconnect it... and then you try to use AirPlay 2 to stream music on iTunes to HomePod or Apple TV, the network of your computer would freeze and apps that require network connections would freeze also... until your system is hard rebooted.

We got an new 1 Gbps fiber internet this week, after which we found out that the black Belkin USB-C to Ethernet Gigabit adapter attached to the hub on the backside of LG UltraFine 5K gave only 200 Mbps download and 500 Mbps upload throughput (latency was good though, 3-4 ms). Changing ports didn't help, couldn't test the adapter straigth to MacBook Pro 13" because 2015 model and no USB-C ports. With other Thunderbird to Ethernet Gigabit adapter the throughput was good 940 Mbps / 940 Mbps.

We updated the firmware of the UltraFine 5K to the newest, no difference in the throughput, update took around 15 minutes, quite long.

Then we updated the driver for macOS, black Belkin F2CU040 has Realtek chip inside, so we went with this:
MAC OS 10.6 to 10.13, version 1.0.17 2017/12/19 184k
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads...=56&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

After the driver update (and restart of the macOS), the throughput is 940 Mbps / 940 Mbps.

The UltraFine 5K is an excellent display, this was the first problem in the last year of using it, no other problems or bugs that we have found out.

@Saeloe i have reported this to Apple and they have escalated it to the top. Someone will be looking at the default Realtek driver and will be contacting Realtek on their partially working new driver.
