I saw a purple one, too, that I really like. But I already see AT&T will have only black and silver. So I have a sneaking suspicion there will be regional restrictions on the cool colors and most of the markets outside of Asia will get the usual black and silver. But Sprint is supposed to get the V30+, so who knows for sure. I'd like the purple one if I can get it.

I do worry about LG not being known for speedy updates. That will be something to consider. I'm definitely interested in seeing what the Pixels have to offer.

My husband has accepted that I'm interested in something other than the Note 8. @Tig Bitties --you know, my husband ran into terrible lag on his S8+. He managed to beat the worst lag out of it for the most part, but he says some of his apps are hopeless. However, he has a high tolerance for it. I suspect my tolerance is much higher than yours but I'd be lying if I said I was okay with the lag that I got on my camera and those awful animation stutters I had changing between apps on the home screens or in the app drawer. It was pretty aggravating. Fortunately an update seems to have fixed it nicely. I think it's running at least as smoothly as my iPhone 7Plus, which doesn't exactly lag or stutter, but it does crash a bit.

My only remaining source of aggravation is how Pokémon Go seems to run in the background even when I think I've closed it and freezes or wreaks other havoc with my camera.

My reasons for not running to embrace the Note 8 have much to do with my hatred of the edge display. It's a feature that I loathe more the longer I deal with it. I was happy to see black side bezels or edges on the V30.

Also I am not terribly impressed by the sound quality on the videos I have recorded on my S8+. My S7 Edge did better. So I'm waiting on reviews and hands on tryouts of the Note 8. I like what I've read so far about how the V30 handles audio. I haven't ruled the Note 8 out. These are just my preliminary thoughts on all the possibilities out there.

I may end up just keeping what I've got for another year.

Go with Nova Launcher on the S8+ to see if that clears up the lag because a lot of it has to do with Samsung's launcher.

Detroitborg really covers the GUI in detail. The only main differences I am seeing between it and the G6 are

1. New wallpapers
2. Floating Bar
3. Improved AOD
4. Quick Actions on Icon
5. Voice Unlock

There really isn't any reason why LG couldn't at least offer the improved AOD, Wallpapers & Quick Actions. Given they added the same facial unlock in an update already.

What do you guys think about the video modes? Is it just everyday filters or something more?

No they are more than just the usual Instagram style filters. These are colour gradients which we see more in films and such. Trust me if you have ever had to colour grade footage in post edit afterwards it's a slow job to preserve detail and match outputs. These will make it possible for V30 users to achieve something filmatic in an easier form or at least allow users to preview colour grades before going into post edit.

There will be regular consumer users who will use them merely as Instagram style filters however it's doing them a disservice to label them as such.

Is this app for iPhone similar? I mean does it do pretty much the same thing? I am too newbie to know what I'm looking at here.

I had my heart set on the iPhone 8 or Edition but this phone came out of nowhere and caught my attention. It was not even on my radar at all. It will be interesting to see how I feel after the Apple Keynote. At this point I'm more on the iOS bandwagon than Nougat's. iMessage is a big factor in that. iMessage has kept me in constant contact with the other moms from school and we've been texting each other pictures and videos of our kids' vacations with such ease.

It's tough because I had quite the tech crush on the G6 and the V30 so far seems to answer well on the points where the G6 lost me. They do need to fix that low light performance to make it compete with the iPhone.

Iphone is supposedly going to bring it on AR. But the LG will be Daydream compatible.

Oh wow it's all fun to contemplate. :D

There's still one Android phablet to be announced later this year which I'm looking forward to, and that's the Huawei Mate 10. I'm sure it'll be a beast, easily accessible to buy everywhere and way cheaper than the competition.

Last year the Mate 9 was 599€ first day where I live, and it's still a great phone with dual camera setup, 64GB on-board storage, huge battery life, etc.

I've come to really like Huawei after my first phone with them, my current Huawei Nova Plus. The Mate 10 should be another great phablet for this year.

I'm waiting for this one too, hopefully a phone that doesn't have that idiotic narrow/tall aspect ratio everyone else is emulating. Plus the price will be hard to resist.

Another caveat with LG is their locked bootloader. It's my phone, I paid for it and I should be able to do what I want with it. Of course this gripe applies to most other phones, but I was hoping LG would stand out from the crowd a little bit. Anyhoo just gives me more hope for the pixel XL2.

The success of the V30 remains at the mercy of 1. Price and 2. Availability ..... Will LG Fubar it ?
They should have it in people's hand quicker. I mean announce the phone then expect it in peoples hands a month later? A month is forever in the tech world......

If this falls in price to about £500 I would consider picking one up for the camera and audio features. Of course I'd need to wait for the pixel 2. I doubt I will get the iPhone 8 with its atrocious pricing.

The note 8 will be my main phone purchase this year.

Firstly I have to say, in my eyes the V30 is one straight up rip off of Samsungs designs..

Anyway it has more camera features and audio features:

But the V30 has one major advantage, it's not running Lagwiz.

And don't tell me how Scamsung has made Touchwiz Grace UI better LOL. Yeah sure they did. Been hearing that since the S5 release, and my S8+ was still the same story with micro stutter and slight hiccups.

The Galaxy line will never be Nexus / Pixel smooth, and that's unacceptable and just poor management from Samsung not truly fixing that, because they don't care.

I love Lagwiz, I just spent 1599 on a phone with Lagwiz on it.
Samsung do lag the best, you're jus jealous man ;)

S8 Plus has been a beast. It has crushed every phone I've used this year.

$680 would make me purchase at release. But I think it'll be more like $780 at release.
Yep I suspect if it does get a decent rollout in Europe it won't be carried by many carriers and definetly in Ireland it is unlikely to be released on them (no carrier here even sold the G6), so will remain a device which will have to be procured through expensive online European retailers at near full RRP which I expect to be or at least would not be surprised by €849 given the G6 was €749.

That's just too much for your average Joe consumer especially if each countries carriers do not get behind it and subsidize the initial cost.

So after watching MKBHD’s ‘Top 5 Features’ video, I kinda wish I was in the market for an Android phone. Never expected to say this anytime soon regarding an LG phone but I’m seriously impressed by everything this beast is bringing to the table. The camera app, with all that functionality, on its own is damn impressive.

And maybe it’s just my aging eyes but even though the aspect ratio is barely wider than the latest Samsung phones, its form factor seems far more practical.

Finally, I know it’s really not a hugely important element but, ‘Hey Samsung, that’s how you layout a rear dual camera.’ ;) No giant, ugly blacked out rectangle that completely ruins the rest of a beautiful design.

LG have always copied Samsung. Whatever Samsung do LG quickly follow. However I guess both companies being from the same county must make things very competitive. LG however, do have some of their own ideas and for the most part their own ideas are pretty good.

At least you are not trying to claim that LG copied the iPhone 8 as I have seen elsewhere in this forum.

LG do seem to try different things though, going modular, different construction, they seem to take a few risks here and there.
My last LG phone was a lemon, a beautiful lemon. It wasn't LG's fault though.
To save a few bucks, I got a parallel imported KM900, stainless steel, looked so nice but was a total lemon.
Took a month to resolve, ended up with my first Android phone, the Xperia mini :)
My KU990 was awesome apart from being 2g and having a below average battery.
