Quality control is a huge issue with LG devices. People should at least wait a couple months after release before investing in a LG device based on my experience with the LG V20 and yes the UX of the LG starts to lag far quicker than any Galaxy device I had and it's far more uglier. My S8 plus doesn't lag at all.

My S8 had frequent stutters, my G6's have been for the most part absolutely smooth bar odd sluggishness after applying a theme, which also can and does happen on the S8 at times. However it is no where near as consistently smooth as my pixel which remains the smoothest Android experience I have had.

As for 'uglier' well that's subjective entirely.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
But the V30 has one major advantage, it's not running Lagwiz.

And don't tell me how Scamsung has made Touchwiz Grace UI better LOL. Yeah sure they did. Been hearing that since the S5 release, and my S8+ was still the same story with micro stutter and slight hiccups.

The Galaxy line will never be Nexus / Pixel smooth, and that's unacceptable and just poor management from Samsung not truly fixing that, because they don't care.

Haha, admit it, you'd be bored stiff if they didn't give you a reason to load loads of custom ROMs on their devices :)

I haven't experienced any lag on the V20, but the battery life was horrendous. And so was the LG app store. Everything else was great.

I agree, my S8+ has been smooth as butter. The only issue is the "Hello Bixby" homescreen doesn't stay open for too long, so a lot of times when I swipe to the right to quickly check my Bixby cards, Hello Bixby has to load up again. I wonder if the Note 8 will be the same with 6gb ram. Other than that, no lag whatsoever, and believe me, I even tried to create lag.

Oh I'd wait, just to see the price drop at least a little, if for no other reason. But goodness they are maddeningly vague about when this phone will actually drop. No sign at all of when the unlocked version will turn up. I hope they rectify that soon because the Apple Keynote is right around the corner and preorders will be starting, too.

I'm likely to preorder the iPhone Edition just to get a decent position on the delivery queue, but will of course be able to cancel if the reviews are bad on the iPhone Edition/8. I may also cancel or forget about the whole thing if I can't use my existing Samsung and generic charging pucks on the new iPhone. The new iPhone will be expensive enough without causing me additional expense for a freaking proprietary charger. My enthusiasm for the new iPhone is huge, but I haven't taken complete leave of my senses. I'll be weighing pros and cons as usual.

Which reminds me...could I use the Samsung "wireless" charging pucks with the V30? I have so many of these things all over the house thanks to my husband's friend giving us his extras when he went back to iPhone. I am reluctant to go around setting up another set of pucks next to my Samsung ones. Hubby is likely to stick with Samsung and it's going to be ridiculous accommodating several different standards in one household. I'm assuming the Qi standard means a standard even across brands. I love my Samsung charging pucks. I have one on vacation with me and it's so nice to be able to just drop my phone on it instead of peeking with middle aged eyes in dim light, matching charging connectors to ports.

Qi is a standard yeap, but rumours are of Apple possible fixing it so only approved chargers work, remember the good ol 'this accessory is not compatible with your device' messages?
Of course it means extra revenue for Apple to require chargers be licensed or made by them..

We will see, but from what I've read just be ready for your husbands Samsung to be charged much faster then the new iPhone 8..

I've still got my Nexus wireless charger and my lovely Bamboo wooden one.

LG have always copied Samsung. Whatever Samsung do LG quickly follow. However I guess both companies being from the same county must make things very competitive. LG however, do have some of their own ideas and for the most part their own ideas are pretty good.

At least you are not trying to claim that LG copied the iPhone 8 as I have seen elsewhere in this forum.

Scamsung? It's not a patch on samesung.

Or Samsuck LOL. I'm joking,

Well I'm not about Lagwiz that's very real. I ditched my Galaxy S8+ and iPhone 7 Plus and went back to my Nexus 6P running a custom ROM and custom kernel, and this 6P runs circles around the S8+ not joking. My ROM'd 6P is so smoooooth never lags, never a hiccup, just always warp speed fast, and consistently smooth, no micro stutter ever.

My wife has the LG G6 and it's a really nice phone, and the UI skin isn't that bad, so this V30 with better hardware and updated UI will make this the best non stock Android phone of 2017.

Oh yes I hated that message. It caused me some headaches and frantic rounds of updating so I could get all the old and new Apple watches in the family to work on all the chargers, old and new, that we had.

It would be so aggravating if Apple takes a huge dump on yet another industry standard unless their solution truly is head and shoulders above the standard. That's the only way it would be forgivable, to me, at least.

I was really loving the quirky new look of the iPhone Edition leaks. I saw the latest supposedly accurate models from EverythingApplePro and they looked good to my eccentric tastes. But after viewing LG V30 videos at breakfast this morning, I have to say the Edition looks really weird to me with the camera bump still protruding so much, when Samsung and LG have managed to go thin yet still make the camera module very close to flat. I hope the leaks have it wrong in this instance.

I had really liked the white bezels and notch on the iPhone but again, once you view something as slick looking as the LG V30, it all starts to look a little like Apple designers were goofing off a bit. Of course I can't be sure of anything in videos. It all comes down to the look and feel of the device in the hand. The features and performance as well as customer service and support factor in as well on the overall evaluation.

In the camera evaluations I'm seeing so far, V30 is crushing it! However I want to be sure it doesn't have the focusing issues @jamezr experienced with his G6.

I love my Series 2 Nike Apple Watch so it's going to be tough for the LG V30 to steal me away from the iPhone Edition or even my 7Plus. But at this point the possibility exists. At any rate it's exciting to see LG putting up such formidable competition.

so, because they have 1 unit with a less good display, all of the sudden all the units have automatically those same screens?

LG has had quality control issues for years...I'm sure you will hear more complaints about this. It's just the beginning....

I really want this phone.

LG have done an absolutely fantastic job here. I absolutely love the colour way of silver back and black front too, really so impressive.

Wonder if it gets a UK release?

If the rumor on Reddit is right and it's $749.99, I might just consider this over the Note 8. Band 71 for T-Mobile, that would be nice to have once they deploy it here.

It also seems easier to hold.

Overall, let's see how LG handles this.

Well it's something to keep in mind and keep an eye on, to be sure. It remains to be seen if this is an example of a particularly lemony phone or symptomatic of a larger overall problem.

So ... Where are all the people complaining about G6 quality control issues ?

People tend to have a bad experience with a phone and dig in their heels. We see it with Sammy all the time, in example. Too many take anecdotal experiences to be real data.

Just recently my mother in law wanted her first smartphone. I gave her an old Lg G3 I had. It works fine. Not the fastest or smoothest due to the age, but pretty good. You know what we can extrapolate from that? Absolutely nothing other than I owned a G3 that worked well for me a few years ago and is working just fine now.

That's true. A bad taste in the mouth is more memorable than a good one most of the time. A person will be quick to complain but less likely to compliment.

Usually. There are exceptions.

I've had bad experiences with a ton of different manufacturers, I give second chances if they've got something I'm interested in currently.

I'm not interested in Intel modems (7 Plus nightmare). Not interested in the S-Pen. So if LG makes a good product with this V30, I'll be getting it.

Same. LG has been hit or miss for me, pretty much the same as all of them. Overall I've had better experiences with iPhones but most of the bad ones have been weighted towards the last few iterations. The 7 Plus/iOS 10 is absolutely the buggiest I've owned (I've gone through three of them with various issues). Conversely, Samsung has been mostly killing it for me since the S6.

Only OEM I probably wouldn't buy from again is OnePlus.

The problem with IPhone going forward, and I guess Samsung, too, is that if a person gets stuck with a buggy one, that's a painfully expensive "bad date". A good return/exchange and customer service policy then becomes more important with the prices for their flagships rising into the stratosphere the way they are.

I don't mind saying I'm nervous about the iPhone Edition being $1000- $1200 and that there is the potential for me feeling like I bought a prototype at such a dear cost rather than a fully realized fine tuned concept.

That happened to me with the iPhone 6. I loved it at first and then it became apparent it could be better. It really needed the RAM boost. It was a long year waiting for Apple to get it right with the 6S Plus.

With V30 I just don't know enough about how LG deals with customer issues. But the V30 looks like they gave it their all and it represents what they wanted it to be.

At least Nougat is good for me so far. iOS 10 has been an uneven ride. iOS 11 looks interesting but I hope I don't run into weird battery draining issues and app crashes as much as I did with certain versions of iOS 10.

I may have considered this phone if it was available....

I'm guessing they'll sell heaps of them and this phone will become the template moving forward, for LG.

Well done LG.
