Oh no! It's a glossy screen?! I didn't even realize. I can't stand those. The glare is just too terrible.

And it could have been perfect....:(
PowerSupport--the Japanese company that also makes the Crystal Shield and AntiGlare screen protectors for iPhone--also makes them for MacBook. They're outstanding, but expensive. http://www.powersupportusa.com Just pick up an AntiGlare screen protector for MacBook--that'll do the trick! :)

So CA
.

Only complaint so far: it seems to be warming up rather quick and the fan is louder than I expected it would be. Of course the hard drive is extremely quiet so I guess that balances it out.

er:confused: I don't believe there is a fan in the MBA.

The SSD units should be entirely silent. The units with a hard drive, the only source of sound would be the hard disk.

First day orders not shipped yet?

I got my order (a 1.8/80) in at 9:00pm on the 15th, and it is still listed as 'Not yet shipped'. Are there any other first day orderers who are still in waiting mode???

Indeed they are expensive but they do the best, by far, job on screen protection I've ever seen.

You'll be surprised to see how finger print resistant is the Power Support, sheet.

And it does tone down the screen. The trade off is brighter colors, and duller with the Power Support.

And you can try my solution. Use the MBA only in a darkened room, with no overhead light source. Or outside in the shade.

It so wonderful to play all day with my Mac toys.

MacAlly used to make some glossy screen protectors, which were cheaper and came in a three-pack. But they don't last as long as the Power Support Screen Film. Long live Power Support--they make the best uber-geek Mac accessories! [I love visiting their booth every Macworld Expo!!]

Yes, there is an active cooling system. The blue-shirt Apple engineers at Macworld Expo confirmed this. And, if you take a look at the Stevenote, there's one slide that shows the active cooling system. [This is the segment before Steve talks about the custom-designed Intel Core Two Duo.]

When Steve showed the innards of the Air at Macworld and compared the logic board with a pencil, there was a fan. I don't think it would be on most of the time tho since the Air is really thin which helps with the cooling. And yes, the SSDs are silent up to the 128 GB capacity where you would need a fan to cool them down. But that doesn't mean the 64 GB SSD models won't need a fan since other computer components need to be cooled down -- but even then, sound would be at a minimum

Yepp. If you go to the re-released pictures on Gizmodo's site you'll clearly see one.

Yep. Jan. 15, ~1:30 PM order for 1.8/SSD still on "Not yet shipped".

The wait is destroying me!

Well, I can promise you that I'll be very nice to the fedex flights from Anchorage tomorrow in 6 feet of snow or no snow. From air traffic control in Indianapolis, I might even consider breaking the law and giving them landing priorities...

Next time I am in INDY, dinner is on me!

FedEx runs pretty frequent red-eyes ANC-EWR and ANC-JFK. New York City would get faster delivery, but Billy Bob Joe out in the remote Kentucky hills might have to wait for the eta.

So Northern Minnesota on the edge of the wilderness is not on FedEx's priority list?

A quick field report from the Santa Monica store:

A went with a friend to buy a new Mac Pro desktop today. Since the Santa Monica store is in an outdoor mall, the procedure with big items is to drive around to the back alley, knock on the door, show receipt and they give you the machine. So it was right around 4:00pm when we pulled up to the rear door of the Apple store and saw... A FedEx truck being unloaded! I don't have X-Ray vision, but it looked like pallets of Macbook Air shipping containers all shrinkwrapped together. After we got our computer loaded into the car, I asked one of the store employees who was there if any of them might have the SSD. He smiled wryly and said "That would be nice!"

So if you're in the LA area, I bet that a personal shopping appointment for tomorrow at the 3rd St. store in Santa Monica would be a good way to get a machine!
