My 1.8/80GB ordered 2:37PM on the 15th (actually earlier but the apple customer service people set me back a few hours) just went prepared for shipment.
A quick field report from the Santa Monica store:
A went with a friend to buy a new Mac Pro desktop today. Since the Santa Monica store is in an outdoor mall, the procedure with big items is to drive around to the back alley, knock on the door, show receipt and they give you the machine. So it was right around 4:00pm when we pulled up to the rear door of the Apple store and saw... A FedEx truck being unloaded! I don't have X-Ray vision, but it looked like pallets of Macbook Air shipping containers all shrinkwrapped together. After we got our computer loaded into the car, I asked one of the store employees who was there if any of them might have the SSD. He smiled wryly and said "That would be nice!"
So if you're in the LA area, I bet that a personal shopping appointment for tomorrow at the 3rd St. store in Santa Monica would be a good way to get a machine!
i think prob not until monday or tuesday?
do apple release products at stores on weekends?
I have a sneaky feeling that we can see & touch and lust after one at an Apple store but won't be able to buy one until Saturday or Sunday to give all the faithful pre-order macfan's a good chance to get theirs ahead of retail rollout.
I got my order (a 1.8/80) in at 9:00pm on the 15th, and it is still listed as 'Not yet shipped'. Are there any other first day orderers who are still in waiting mode???
That would really suck. I hope the stores get them tomorrow. Keep up with the great NC updates. I hope Southpark can come through for me tomorrow or this weekend!

Dude - I can't believe it. You missed your package! That always sucks 'cause you don't know when they'll bring it back.
