If anyone opens their Airdrop on their phone or iPad while in the same room as me then it's curtains, and everything disconnects, then goes through a loop of disconnecting and reconnecting for several minutes. I just went through a week or so of no problems, then the last two days it's been useable again. There's been no software updates to prompt this change of behaviour.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue with certain units maybe.

I'm on Big Sur on my Hack and I can't believe how great it runs - much smoother and more refined than Catalina...and the Magic Trackpad that was skipping/stuttering/lagging all over with the M1 Mini on Big Sur?

Running perfect and smooth as glass over bluetooth - like a dream.

My Hack has an original MacBookAir wifi/bluetooth card installed in it (old - like from 2012 maybe?)

I just connected my Magic Mouse and Logitech MX keys to my M1 MBA 16GB/1TB. So far no issues, happily typing away on the Logitech MX at the moment... Will see how things go and if any issues crop up. Haven't tried my Airpods yet though.

Got a Mini and my Magic Mouse & Anne Pro 2 keyboard disconnect literally every couple mins. It also takes forever to click or press a key to try waking the Mac. I haven’t been following this issue but does it seem to be software or hardware related? If there isn’t a fix for this I’m definitely returning this defective Mac. It also constantly changes to some super low resolution on my 5K Ultrafine display. When you go to display preferences it won’t even show that it’s capable of 5K most the time. Hands down my worst experience with a Mac, or any Apple product for that matter. Literally everything else I’ve ever owned has worked like a charm.

@imdog

That all sounds like a total lemon unit - I'd return it for sure..

Don't risk getting stuck with it
Do you think it’s just the specific Mac is a faulty one? Because I read a lot of people having similar bluetooth issues as well as resolution issues :/ it sucks I waited so long for this to come in as it was a built to order (16GB/1TB)

M1 MBP here.
No Bluetooth problems here but an interesting thing happened this afternoon.
I only use a magic mouse 2 on bluetooth, nothing else.
My mouse runs fine but today I decided to charge the magic mouse and so it disconnects.
While that was happening I got out my trusty, wireless USB mouse and started to use that.
After about 10 minutes it started to flake out. It got stuck, it wouldn't click on anything and it stuttered across the screen or stopped moving altogether for short periods.
Seemingly just like people's complaints about BT mice on Big Sur, I believe.
I don't know what to make of it either :) but I thought I'd mention it.

Well it's been a couple of hours connected to the Logitech MX keys and Magic Mouse 2 for me and so far so good bluetooth wise. I'm actually amazed at how quickly the Logitech MX keys connects to the M1 MBA - with my previous macbook I used to have to give it a while to connect, with the M1 MBA the wait is so fast I can just start typing once I hit the key used to connect to the M1 MBA.

When can we expect the official release of 11.2? I have never downloaded or installed a beta. I have a new MBA M1 and issues with my AirPods disconnecting every few minutes. Apple should definitely hurry a fix as this seems to be an issue for many.

Mid January to mid February.

Ugh, I guess better than nothing - if it does fix this issue. I'll have to use my M1 without headphones for another month then.

I'm happy to report that after five days with 11.2 beta, resetting the Bluetooth module, and deleting the old Bluetooth plist files, I have not had any issues with my Apple Trackpad or Airpods Max.

Good to hear. Is resetting the bluetooth module and deleting old bluetooth plist necessary, or should an update to 11.2 be enough on its own?

For me the update to 11.2 Beta 1 was enough to fix all BT issues. If you want to get the issues fixed right now, feel free to upgrade to 11.2 Beta 1 right away. It's running rock-solid like most macOS Beta versions do. I am running on Beta releases for two years now, most of that time on a hackintosh. The only major issue I've had during that time was Apple killing H.265 hardware acceleration two times. One time they did in Mojave, a second time in Catalina. Anyways, nothing is broken on 11.2 Beta 1, so you will be fine using it until the release of 11.2.

If you want to enroll for beta releases you can run this in Terminal:
Developer Beta Releases
Code:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed
Public Beta Releases
Code:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Resources/seedutil enroll PublicSeed

Going back to the stable release channel is possible with one click inside the system update preference pane.

Thank you for confirming and giving clear instructions! Might have to challenge my fear of downloading Betas ?

I don't know if all three were needed to fix my issue, but I want to do everything possible to reset Bluetooth to ensure my migration backup wasn't the issue.

I would rather do those things and be sure, than not to do them and have the issue again down the road...

My M1 Mini is running like hot garbage with all these Bluetooth problems. I wanted to try that beta OS before the return window and see if it works. Can anyone tell me how to clear the Bluetooth settings or whatever it is that I need to do?

This should help;

Not sure if those instructions work the same for a M1 though.

Don’t forget to remove the Bluetooth plist files too...

I'm not having resolution issues, but I had to get a hdmi 2.1 cable or my screen was flickering off and on constantly. I'm on a LG 3440x1440 ultrawide. The weird thing is when I run in windows I get 120hz refresh rate, no matter what I do in mac os on the mac mini m1 It only gives me 50hz....

I have to say -- this external monitor situation and "finicky" status is a real turn off on the M1's at the moment.

The expectation on Macs and from macOS users is broad support for a huge range of potential external connections.

I had this issue too and a clean install of macOS solved that
