Seriously wtf are the clowns at Apple doing, everything was FINE with my M1 Pro 14 inch, now I'm only getting 3440 x 1440 after updating to 12.2.1

Is there a way to downgrade to 12.0 without deleting files?

I use my MacBook exclusively in clamshell mode and now when restarting I need to open the lid so it detects the monitor too

Its not working on my side, do I need to buy SwitchResX? I get "not installed" in custom resolution, im using the 10 day trial.

Check out SwitchResX for free – it's fully functional with a 10 day trial period. SwitchResX - Complete Control over your Monitor!
You can also use BetterDummy, it's free but has some limitations compared to SwitchResX .Someone on this topic mentioned those resolutions seem to be available again in 12.3 Beta. You can install the Beta also ofc but it's a beta :)

Hey, I can confirm what TssvMxqw said, I also experienced issue after upgarding to 12.2 on MacbookPro15,1 (15 inch late 2018). My display is LG 34WK95U-W.

After upgrade, I lost 3840x1620 I used for past year, only 3360x1418 next upper step was full native 5120x2120 resolution. My display is set with DisplayPort version 1.2 and connected using direct connection with Thunderbolt cable, no hubs.

Tried BetterDummy, I was able to get 3840x1620 back but it was blurry, no hidpi. Tried to push double resolution of 3840x1620 (7680x3240) via BetterDummy didn't work.

So I tried SwitchResX (paid version), below is a process:

1) ##Disabling System Integrity Protection (SIP)

If you are running OSX 10.11 or higher, SIP must be disabled. To disable SIP do the following:

  • Boot into the recovery partition by pressing CMD + R when starting up your Mac.
  • Once in recovery mode, open a terminal window.
  • Type the command csrutil disable
  • Reboot
2) Open SwitchResX, go to "Custom Resolutions", click "+" at bottom. Select "scaled resolution" from menu. All fields shall be empty, appart the last line where you put scale to : 7680 x 3240.

3) Hit OK, and close SwitchResX, it will prompt to save config, answer yes.

4) Reboot mac one again.

5) after reboot, open SwitchResX and check custom resolution tab for your screen, this shall look like:

6) Then navigate to SwitchResX, you shall finally see 3840x1620 as HiDPI available, select it.

7) Do not forget to check "Launch SwitchResX Daemon automatically after login" in SwitchResX's General Settings.

8) Reboot again into recovery partition to disable SIP (csrutil enable).

9) After reboot, external screen shall keep 3840x1620 HiDPI resolution.

10) Looking in OSX menu, I still cannot see 3840x1620 listed:

However display use 3840x1620 correctly and is sharp!

Hope it may help you,

cheers!

Well thanks to people posting false information, I went out my way to update to 12.3 beta and it is not fixed. Now stuck with beta software on main machine. Good stuff.

I'm on MBP 14 M1 Pro. I also upgraded from the 13 M1 Pro because it seemed to fixed the issue with this monitor now its messed up.

Has something been changed on Apple's server side? I updated to 12.1 in December and no issues with the LG monitor. I lost the hi res option out of the blue on 12.1 yesterday or day before and decided to update to 12.2.1 to see if it would fix.

Now I downgraded to 12.0.1 and 12.1 and its the same issue. The interface is different here too:

Before the external monitor would have shown 4 pre set "Scaled" options and not explicit resolution options. What is going on, this is very frustrating

Depends, you have a M1 Pro and perhaps it is for a M1 Max.. Unfortunately only have M1's. Also it is weird the SwitchResX fix is not working for you where it is for people with a M1 Max.. I have the same error as you but I have only a M1 and those resolutions where never available on the M1 so that could explain my situation. Anyways I'm a bit clueless what Apple is thinking with these changes.

Says not available yet on silicon Macs....

Don't worry, they are going to fix it with a $1299 monitor of their own. /s
First it will be more expensive, secondly it won't solve anything as that monitor will not be an ultrawide with a similar resolution. Even for the ProXDR screen the max scaled resolution is 3008x1692 because they think 1:2 is the way to go for some reason.

Using an "old" 16:10 27" in the office every now and then shows me every time how much I love the Ultrawide for work. I don't think I want to go back to multiple monitors instead :/

Just to let you know, I've just tried the SwitchResX method outlined on the previous page and IT WORKS on an M1 Max MacBook pro. Not sure why it might not work on a non-max one but deffo working for me. Phew! Thanks @Grimp

Custom resolution 7380 x 3240?

Did you use the SwitchResX 10 day trial or did you purchase a license?

I was able to install SwitchResX and add 7680x3240 to custom resolutions as per instructions in page 25, BUT I didn't need to disable SIP. It just works and the option is back <3

I really don't understand why this is happening. I've even downgraded to 12.1 and its still the same issue, everything was working perfectly fine then one day, out of the blue I just lose HiDPI on the LG 5K2K monitor.

I've even purchased the 2m thunderbolt 3 pro cable from Apple and its the same.

Really tempted to just get M1 iMac now

Anyone with Dell U4021QW tried the new driver for Mac “Mac OS Firmware Update Package (Ver. M2T104) for U4021QW monitor” from Dell yet? If so, any change? Any improvements?

There’s also the new display manager for Mac too.
Yes. I tried both. Doesn’t change anything. The app I mentioned was the answer
