Hi, can't get this to work. Im on a MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro 2021 with the latest Ventura.
My TV is LG C2 42". Cable Matters adapter from the link posted, 6100.
My HDMI cable is suitable for 2.1

In Better Displays I can only set resolution with 120Hz to 2560x1440, there is no alternative for 3840 at 120hz..
I have followed the guide step by step.
What is wrong?

Did you overwrite the EDID as indicated and check "apply on display detected" (or similar) in Better Display?

Yes I did, and I eventually got it to work. But I have issues.

1. Initially I got it to work with 10bpc, but somehow that changed and now only shows 8bpc. Why? And how do I fix this. Colors look kinda washed out sometimes.

2. Everytime my MacBook Pro goes to sleep and wakes up, it forces duplicate mode to the LG C2 and resolution gets lower so I have to manually change in MacOS screen settings so it is two screens. And the screen alignment too, it doesn't save my last changes.

This is extremely annoying, do I have to sell my MacBook and get a PC??

1. might be just an issue with the wrong value being reported by BetterDisplay. Do you check directly on the TV by pressing the green button on the remote quickly 8 times?

2. I got the same problems, was able to fix resolution and maybe mirroring with BetterDisplay "config protection", but the need to set the main display and rearrange everything was really annoying, so I now configured BetterDisplay to turn off my MBP screen as soon as an external display is connected and I like that, given a single gigantic screen was what I wanted anyways.

Also it's not ideal, that I have to reconnect the adapter each time the MBP went to sleep, any hints how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

1. According to my LG tv it is RGB 10b 4L10 so I guess its ok then.

2. I have enabled config protection, doesn't help. Where can I find the setting for BetterDisplay to turn off my MBP screen?

Nice.

It's under the Advanced tab and then "Disconnect built-in display when ..." under Additional Settings.

Thanks!

Now we just need to figure out the sleepmode/reconnect adapter issue...

Anybody?
I uncheck the bottom option in edid, like in the image I'd post, and now don't have problem exiting sleep. I use too Amphetamine. For make it is better configure the edid options after setting reset on BetterDisplay. Everything with Mac mini and two lg tv.

Back to square one. It worked for about a day, but now when i wake up the mac, unplug/replug the adapter and the Mac screen disconnects, my LG tv failes to detect signal. WTF!
So i have to turn off "Disconnect built-in display" and then do the process with removing duplicate screen. It is really annoying.

Yeah, I unplug when the MacBook goes to sleep and after waking up I turn on the TV and then connect the adapter. That usually works.

Thanks for these tips! I bought the Anker dongle and after flashing the firmware its working perfectly with M1 Max macbook and LG C2

One small side-effect I noticed. LG's G Hub starts to crash every time the dongle is connected. Reinstalling etc didnt make a difference. No idea what its trying to do with the dongle...

Anyone else noticed the same, eg LG G Hub throwing a red big banner saying critical error everytime the dongle is connected?

Ive just fixed the sound by complete chance - I plugged in a an active Club3D display port to HDMI adapter and then removed mu 8k HDMI cable and plugged it into the HDMI 2.1 port on my GPU leaving the Club 3D still plugged in and VOILA! Sound through the TV via HDMI and 4k@120hz on a 2010 MacPro and RX6600XT!!!! FINALLY Tru Motion Scrolling on my 48inch OLED and Mac OS!!!!
Thanks for posting this, I just got an Aora 48inch FO48U and am stuck at 60hz going to try it SwitchX or Betterdsiplay and see if I can get the 120Hz working.

Update... I can only get 1440p 119.88 low res. I tried both SwitchresX and BetterDisplay but no 4k120. With SwitchX I was able to create a 4k 120 res but it says it's not loaded. What is 1440 (low resolution) 120Hz compared to regular 1440 60Hz?

2560x1440 low resolution is 2560x1440 scaled up to 4K.
2560x1440 is the HiDPI retina mode which is 5120x2880 scaled down to 4K.

I'm only guessing it's scaling to 4K since the AURUS F048U is a 4K display. You need to look at the modes in SwitchResX to tell for sure if they're scaled and what they are scaling to. AllRez can also list the info for all the available modes.

Ah thanks makes sense. I payed for SwitchResX today, must have installed it a few years back so it was past demo mode that’s why it wasnt Working but it didn’t give me the past demo error until I reinstalled it. Now I have 120Hz at 4K and 2k And with hdmi 2.1. sweet! I wonder if there is any advantage to using displayport over hdmi 2.1

DisplayPort 1.4 can do 4K120 8bpc RGB without DSC. 4K120 10bpc 4:4:4/RGB requires DSC.

HDMI 2.1 has more bandwidth than DisplayPort 1.4 if it's using 8 Gbps FRL or greater. 10 Gbps FRL is required for 4K120 10bpc 4:4:4/RGB without DSC.

10bpc is required for HDR.

Use edid-decode on the EDID of the display to see if it supports 10 Gbps FRL. The specs for the display listed on the product page says DSC is required for HDMI 2.1 to support 4K120 4:4:4. Alternatively, 4:2:0 can be used. This means the display could be limited to 6 Gbps FRL (allows 4K120 10 bpc 4:2:0) or even 6 Gbps TMDS (allows 4K120 8bpc 4:2:0).

Happy to report new MacBook Air 15 works! Since I can only have one display without DisplayLink, might as well make that display OLED and 120Hz.

So I'm trying this on my M1 Max 16 with a cable matters USB-C to DP adapter and a DP to HDMI 2.1 cable and while I'm showing that the display is connected via DP I'm not able to get the option to change it to 4k120 to show up.

Adapter: Amazon.com: Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 1.4 Adapter with 8K@60hz, 4K@144hz and HDR Support - Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 / Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with Oculus Rift S, MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, Surface Pro : Electronics

Cable: Amazon.com: SWITCHFLUX DisplayPort to HDMI Cable [8K@60Hz,4K@144Hz,2K@165Hz] 6FT DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Uni-Directional Braided Cord Support HDCP 2.3/HDR/DSC 1.2 for HP,Lenovo,Dell,AMD,NVIDIA : Electronics

Does anyone have any ideas to get it working or potentially what I could be missing? The adapter and cable combo push 4k120 on my husband's gaming laptop so I don't think they're the problem.
