Something with Nvram was bugging out so can’t be too sure but the IOnvmefamily was updated again.

11.4 works after a few reboots, everything is still supported

So to make clear, after resetting nvram 11.4 is functional even booting from nvme or having a pcie usb3 card?

11.4 does boot, try booting a few times in a row. Sometimes doesn't panic just hangs after NVME failed and sometimes boots to desktop.

My guess is that 11.2.3 would be the last reliable one for the cMP5,1.
Any hypothesis on why it would seem to be working for everything else apart from cMP 4,1 and 5,1?

Notice the working reports are with the OCLP which may have involved some level of Rigid Patching.
Anyone confirm with OCLP on a 5,1?

What you are describing is the same behavior as before. Very few times it boots (1 out of 5-10 attempts), more often it hangs, sometimes it panics.

I manually matched the settings created by OCLP.
I believe it has options for System Volume Patching of some sort.
Might be worth actually running it fully to be 100% sure this does not have an impact.
You will need to take a back up first.

We could also try taking OC out of the equation. The Mac Pro 5,1 should be able to boot Big Sur with just no_compat_check.

Pretty sure @startergo would have tried that through RefindPlus by now ... right?

If that doesn't work, then goes back to eliminating the OCLP patching or spoofing something that makes it work.

There is an issue in OCLP about this:
It is not related to OC. I have also tried directly without OC and trough RP only.
Just tested 11.4 beta1. Same kernel panic at the same spot as here:

Forgot that. I suppose that eliminates the OCLP angle.

So, any ideas why the issue seems to be largely 4,1/5,1 specific?
Strange that all sorts of laptops and the cMP3,1 seem to be ok. Suppose the laptops not having PCIe slots is a factor.

I wonder if ExitBootServicesDelay or SetApfsTrimTimeout would help.

ExitBootServicesDelay in particular might be worth testing. It booting at random suggests something might not be ready for use in the instances when it fails and some sort of pause might help ... although this delay probably happens late.

Still worth a shot.

Delay does not help. Trim timeout was set to -1 (maximum). I can't even install 11.4. The panic occurs much later than exbs event.

As I was told, 3,1 macpros with dosdude's APFS patch do not suffer from panics or hangs from 11.3 or 11.4. Would it possible to have a similar patch for 5,1 macpros?
