I thought about it, but I eventually pulled the trigger. The M1 Mac mini I have while is a good machine, 16 GB of memory is simply not enough, especially since I have a lot of apps open and the computer runs 24/7 since I remote into it, the computer is constantly at close to 50% memory pressure and of course, there is the memory leaks. My 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro doesn't have this issue. Either way, this doesn't give me confidence on the long term use as a home office machine. Also, it seems to have issues with HDMI on the M1 Mac mini with one of the screen sometimes losing picture.
I ordered the base model since it's more than enough and I plan to move everything from the Mac mini to the Mac Studio. Also, I am getting $500 from the App Developer settlement hopefully in the middle of this year to help cover it. Also, I use an external SSD for extra storage and I don't need anything beyond 32GB of RAM. Having 10 GBe is a plus since I am eventually upgrading my whole network to 10 GBe.
The M1 Mac mini will eventually replace the 2014 one I have, which acts like a file server. I will need to buy the ATTO iSCSI Initiator since the one I am using is Intel only and I use ISCSI so I can backup to the cloud. Since I can use DisplayPort on the M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I don't have this issue.
