Hey,
I just bought a brand new MacBook pro and I have this same issue whenever I open it up after leaving it on sleep for a few hours. If anyone finds the fix post it
Right now there isn’t a fix, we are all just waiting for Apple to release a fix in the next major update, likely once Mojave is publicly released this fall. The beta of Mojave that I tried out didn’t have the issue, so hopin it is fixed in the final public release of Mojave.
[doublepost=1535163654][/doublepost]
Yeah, let’s hope Mojave has a fix. All this waiting for an answer or a fix is annoying. Out of curiosity, when you returned your computer and got a new one did they give you a brand new one in the box?
In my case all the replacements were new out of the box. On the second and third computer I set it up without anything installed, no iCloud log in, just straight stock and it still had the issue.

Sadly, as annoying as the issue is I’ve gotten used to it and am pretty much just patiently waiting for the fix, not really much more that can be done. I’d rather have this bug than the Bridge OS or speaker crackling that some people are getting on the 2018 MBPs.

Found this thread after noticing this issue on my current MBP. I just want to say that like drewsof07 on page 1, this problem has existed for me too on varying machines (always Macbook Pros, never Airs, anecdotally), for many years. My previous laptop which exhibited this issue, I fought with AppleCare on it for a while, and it persisted even after logic board replacement. Now my current MBP (13" 2016) has started doing this. The first laptop I observed this on had a discrete GPU but my current one does not, so it does not seem to be related specifically to graphics switching.

I'm not sure what causes it. I doubt Mojave will do anything to change it. I wouldn't waste your time with a restore. In my experience it does not seem to be indicative of any further problems.

Do internet recovery and start fresh - no install from backup files. Have a 2016 13" nTB - have never seen this problem.
I did fresh installs with no backups or apps multiple times (on 3 different machines) to humor Apple’s Senior support, and every time it has the issue, it has something to do with the core programming glitch that is reportedly going to be fixed in Mojave.

Apple has said that this is a known issue and will be fixed in a future update. I’ve never experienced this issue on any of the two previous MacBook pros that I have owned or my Mac mini. It is definitely a bug that will be fixed at some point (per Apple), just hopefully sooner rather than later.

Oh god what a relief i found this thread, having the same issue.. MBP 2017 no touch bar here and i believe since 10.13.3 not sure though. Will post the screenshot later after i success doing so. i don't believe they overlooked this.. Please let us know if you hear an update from Apple :)

After several months of using Mojave Public Beta, i think i can safely say that this particular bug has been fixed :)

I bought a MacBook Pro from 2017 recently and unfortunately I have this problem too. I contacted Apple and they told me that supposedly in the next update of the operating system the problem should be solved.
I leave the video link where you can see the problem

That rep must have been having a crappy day. Ummm, yeah we like making this stuff just because I have hours of time to blow calling AppleCare and trying to capture video and evidence and then have to wait for replacement computers only to be told it’s likely a software issue. That rep is lucky I wasn’t the one on the other end, I’d have asked for his manager.

On the other note, thankfully not all the reps are like that and my senior service advisor was extremely helpful. This is a software issue undoubtably, as it appears to happening to a lot of people, even on older generation MacBook Pro models, so it’s just a waiting game now.

Keep in mind they go through several iterations on the beta and some issues that were gone can come back, while other new ones will go away. I anticipate this will be fixed by the final public release

I am definitely hoping I am wrong that it's not a bad batch of MacBooks. I brought the third MacBook replacement I had (12" MacBook) and thought I would try getting a different MacBook model for the fourth replacement (13" MacBook) Low and behold it is loaded with 10.13.4 and HAS the static screen. So yes after 4 different replacement computers I am pretty certain that this is a software issue. I take back what I said.

Yeah I have been trying out the Mojave Public Beta on a separate volume on my MacBook Pro, and I have come to the same assessment that it seems the issue has been sorted out on the betas, and I am fairly confident the final public release next week will have this bug fixed.

I will test it out, but if the issue is gone after Mojave comes out on Monday, I'll likely mark this thread as resolved at that time. Crossing my fingers that the bug stays fixed on the final Mojave release ;)

Yeah it really is a software issue, as others have stated, no issue on the Mojave bets right now so it looks like it'll be gone when you update to Mojave once it's available next week.

I actually have Mojave beta on one volume, and when I use that OS, never once have I gotten the static. Whenever I switch back to my main High Sierra volume, that static comes back intermittently after any sleep now.

I installed Mojave beta again on my 4th replacement Macbook pro. Did the Apple logo flash red twice for you during the installation process? Cause mine did just like the first time I booted my computer. Will observe to see if the static issue persists after testing out the beta for a bit.

Yeah, every update since I started having this issue has had the weird Apple logo glitch out and show up in a red box during the update process. It also does it when trying to go to safe mode.

I plan to do a clean install of MacOS Mojave once the public version comes out to hopefully have clean install with no reminents of High Sierra bugs.

Which beta are you on? I’m currently installing beta 10 which I presume is the GM version already. And if that red Apple logo is still flashing, it is still an issue that needs to be fixed. Let me know how the clean install works for you on 9/24. If it fixes the issue then I’ll give it a try.

I was on the last version before the most recent update. I actually just deleted that volume a couple days ago as I prep my machine for a fresh install of Mojave when it is officially released next week to the public.

If the only glitch is that the logo flashes red during the update process, but the static goes away and no other graphical bugs pop-up on normal daily use, I’ll be happy. It shouldn’t have the weird red box on the apple logo, but it’s not like I am updating every day, so I’ll take that over the static every time I wake my computer.

I will definitely keep y’all updated once I do a fresh install next week (will be late Tuesday for me as I’ll be traveling Monday onfortunately)

any one still got this? I've not updated yet.
I updated to the official public version and I no longer have the static screen. However during installation I still got the red square around the apple logo flash so that still hasn't been fixed. I didn't do a clean install though so that might be it. Anyone do a clean install and not see the red square?

I just installed today and I got the same red square but too early to say I’m the static. I’ll give an update over the weekend if the issue still exists on the public release of Mojave.

P.S. I did a clean wipe of my MacBook Pro prior to installing a fresh copy of Mojave.
[doublepost=1538010598][/doublepost]
I have installed macOS Mojave and it seems even worst.
Did you do a fresh wipe/reinstall of Mojave?

As an update to those wondering, after using Mojave for almost a full week, I can safely say that the static bug is gone. On High Sierra I would see the static after one or two nights of sleeping. I have not rebooted my computer for the last 4 nights, and it wakes from sleep just fine each time.

Just experienced this on a new-to-me 2010 mac pro5,1. F! WTF is Apple doing! I have an RX580 Pulse installed and thought that was the issue. Has anyone been able to fix this? Also, If in the Power Management (Energy Saver) if Computer and Display Sleep are all the way up to Never, will that prevent this from happening? If monitor is physically switched off does Display Sleep being on Never still waste a lot of energy?

What MacOS version are you using? I don’t know how much energy you waste by putting the display to never sleep, although I would imagine it does make a difference (I don’t know if this prevents the computer from ever sleeping).

Upgraded to the full version of Mojave when it was released - I thought I was in the clear then it started to happen. I am using a Startech USB-C adapter...I wondered if that might have anything to do with it, but I didn't see anyone else mention that on here.

Yeah unfortunately this is a software related issue to High Sierra. You would either need to upgrade to Mojave using a workaround (since I don’t believe the Mojave update is officially supported on your device), or revert to Sierra.
