If you are using the most current macOS beta on the machine, I’d definitely submit the bug through the bug reporting process for beta software.

However, if you aren’t using the current macOS beta, and you don’t have AppleCare the best way to report these bugs is through the feedback webpage on Apples website (https://www.apple.com/feedback) If you select MacBook Pro and follow the prompts there is an option to report bugs.

Having said that, if you are still within the 1 year warranty period for your machine, I’d call Apple customer service so that they can document the issue for the future. Then if for some crazy reason this turns out to be a hardware issue after your warranty is up, you’ll should still be covered for repairs, as the problem existed while under warranty. But that’s my best suggestions.

Ok I will report the bug through feedback page. I'm with 1 year warranty but everything works fine and It's a little bit annoying send the Macbook to Ireland if it is necessary, I bought my Macbook through Apple web store here in Europe and I'm not from Ireland. Maybe I could ask in a physical store over here.

Wanted to chime in and add a data point that I am also having this issue. Currently running 10.13.4 High Sierra

13 inch 2017 Macbook Pro w/ TB.

Just got off a chat w/ AppleCare and they mentioned to do Safe Mode, OS Reinstall, Resetting SMC and NVRAM...

Right I bet they did. There are so many seeing this issue that a SMC/NVRAM reset, safe mode and clean install is not going to fix it - IMO.

Why is it every time there is an issue they want you to wipe your computer and reinstall a fresh copy of the OS? I don't know about everyone else but I don't have that kind of time. Opps! Sorry - off my soap box now...

I am willing to bet everything they suggested did not work. I am still betting it is a glitch in the OS - specifically the graphics driver. BUT.... I will give the suggestions a try, except for reinstalling OS X. It would have to get a lot more annoying before I would do that.

Yeah I am assuming the steps are standard procedure for their support flow. Funny enough I also used to work in a helpdesk environment and we have similar guidelines that require basic tests before escalation...Not reinstalling the OS though unless we know it’s an OS issue.

They mentioned that if they realize somehow you did not do the basic tests they provided, they will not escalate the issue and you will need to contact them on your own behalf.

Similar to you I don’t have the time to reinstall the OS...I’m pretty sure it’s a bug w the graphics especially w all the posts here. I’m glad I found the post

None of the updates have alleviated the symptoms here.

I've seen the issue intermittently since purchase of my 13 inch MBP with touch bar on the 7 March. Everything is fine except the static, but it was quite jarring the first time I saw it. It isn't something I would expect to be happening unless a cable was loose or hardware was faulty. If the screen is too quick at waking for the graphics to refresh, maybe it just shouldn't turn on so quickly. It isn't useful anyway when there are a few seconds of inactive grey fuzz.

I agree it’s irritating too... having said that, I did all those steps, reinstall OS, clear SMC and NVRAM, multiple times on different devices, and the issue still occurs, after my third replacement unit I have given up and will wait to see if the next update fixes the issue.

I will say that none of the steps they suggested worked for me either, I am on my third replacement device from Apple and I’m just going to let it be until the next software update. I’m guessing it has something to do with the most recent MacOS update that officially enabled eGPUs that broke something on the internal graphic card’s sleep/wake process.

I just updated to the newest MacOS 10.13.5, here's hoping this issue goes away! Anyone else who has updated please let me know if you still have any issues with the static issue.

It is still happening on 10.13.5 unfortunately.
Yeah mine just did it too this morning... ughh, you know this is so disappointing coming from a $1,500+ piece of hardware. I love Apple to pieces, but they really need to start working on the bugs in their software... hopefully the rumors are true that that will be the main focus of IOS 12 and MacOS 10.14.

I've done these. Not helping. Everyone report this glitch to Apple, please! Call them! Get to senior advisors! Take a video of it when opening screen on your iPhone. Have them send it to the engineers! We all have to report it straight to them. Thanks.
[doublepost=1528131083][/doublepost]
I am still experiencing the issue too and my today's static was longer

Me too, and everything they've suggested hasn't fixed it. Everyone, please call in to Apple. Take a video of it from your phone when you lift the lid! Have a senior advisor send it in to engineers! They need more reports to take this seriously, so they don't keep making all of US reinstall OS!
[doublepost=1528132538][/doublepost]
Yes, it’s a minor bug in High Sierra 10.13.4. I’ve seen it on two other 2017 MacBook Pro’s (13” / 15”).

And still have it in 10.13.5. I hope everyone calls in to Apple to report this! Dealing with Apple Support has become my part time job and I don't want it. If more people call in (and take video with iPhone upon opening lid!) and get to a senior supervisor who can send you a link to send the video to engineers, maybe they'll fix this!

Nothing has alleviated it here either, even with update to 10.13.5. Nothing. Still have static after long sleep. Everyone, please, call in to Apple. Take a video of what happens with your iPhone! Send it in to Apple engineers via a senior advisor, they'll send you a special link. The more people reporting it the quicker we'll get a fix.

10.13.5 didn't fix the bug. And yes, a $1500 new computer shouldn't have what they're calling an 'anomaly.' Please, if everyone takes a video of it happening with their iPhone, and call in to Apple Care and ask for a senior advisor, they have a link to send to you so you can send the issue to engineers! We have to report this, and the more that do, maybe they'll fix it.

I agree completely, everyone please take the time to call Apple and submit a video to them of this static issue if you experiencing it. The squeaky wheel eventually gets oiled (or replaced). We need Apple to realize this is a bug that needs fixing. Maybe it doesn’t have any effect on performance (or maybe it does), but either way I can tell you that these expensive computers we have shouldn’t do this!

I am just curious, my machine was bought certified, refurbished on the Apple site, but was your unit brand new? I am just curious if this has something to do with the refurb process.

Brand new. Most of the others on this thread are brand new, too.

i just got one, and my friend (windows user) saw and nitpicked it :(
cmon Apple!

ooh, nice to know they aware of this issue and working on it!
thanks for letting us know :D

The last I spoke to Apple, after doing all the things they said to do, they still didn't know that others were having the problem. They're calling it a 'cosmetic anomaly.' I for one, don't want an anomalous $1500 computer! Please, take a video of it happening on your iPhone, call Apple, ask for a senior advisor who will send you some sort of link to send the video to the engineers. Squeaky wheel! We all have to keep telling them or they won't fix it - not just on forums, but straight to Apple.

I just filmed as I opened up my Mac and *obviously*, there was no sign of static. I will try again because I doubt the problem has gone away, the computer just sensed it was being recorded... lol.

I was ready with my phone each morning that I opened the lid after a long sleep (vs shut down) - caught it every time!

Maybe with everyone’s reporting it, it helped - got a call from Apple today. They claim that Engineers know of the bug. Stay tuned for 10.14 Mojave. No more updates to High sierra and hopefully it’ll get fixed then.

But still everyone with the glitch! Take a video! Report to Apple. Get the link from senior advisor to send to engineers. Squeaky wheel!!

So I had the exact same problem!
I woke up this morning after a deep sleep and no grey fuzzy screen!
i tried it a few more times today and still, touch wood, no fuzzy ugly screen.

Is there anyone else who suddenly doesn't have this issue?

Cheers

It's mysterious, but I haven't seen it on my machine for for two days now. It has just been waking and showing the login screen like you'd expect. It did it after upgrading to 10.13.5, so unless Apple have sneaked out another update which has installed without my knowledge, I guess it'll happen again soon enough.

Nope, still have it. Only after a LONG overnight sleep, by trying it a few more times in the day - it would never show it.

If it still occurs, make sure you report it to Apple! Get to a supervisor, they send a link and you can send a video (that you take with iPhone when you open) to engineers.

I've had problems with the new Pro line since it launched in 2016. Sleep/wake issues especially when paired with external display. Then I stopped and tried to use it without a monitor, but then I got the green light and some added flickering. Also have had completely blank screen non-responsive computer without having any peripherals connected. No heavy lifting, just Safari, Mail and iMessage.

My MacBook 12" doesn't have any usage problems after two keyboard replacement, but all SIX of my MacBook Pros, both touch bar (15") and non touchbar (13") have had major problems. Have been through all the usual repairs. Blown speakers, new motherboard and top case has been replaced.

Video of flickering.

Sorry to hear you’ve been having such bad luck with your MacBooks!

That is somewhat different from the issue of the screen static that is being reported on this thread, however it could be related. I know there were similar issues like shown on your video with previous High Sierra versions, but were supposed to be fixed on updates 10.13.4 and 10.13.5. You may already be running the most current updates, but if not I’d suggest switching and you might see the issue go away.

I’m sincerely hoping Apple cleans up the code so that these bugs are gone in MacOS Mojave.

Same issue with my MacBook Pro 2016. I've reported it to a customer relations person I was in contact with after my logic board failed (this issue only started after it was replaced) but would like to get the video to an engineer. Can someone provide a link?

I believe in order to provide a video clip to engineering you’d have to actually contact AppleCare customer service, and a tier 2 service rep can help direct your video to engineering. It may take a an extra 30 minutes, but just be adamant that you want to speak with a senior service advisor so that they can help get this on to engineering.
