ok question, why does the right slide say "oC" for Celsius, when the temperature is clearly Farenheit? (e.g., 87)?

Could you run that Cinebench with something that shows voltage, like iStatMenu? The 2.4 is undervolted by 65mV or so, just wondering if 2.3 is the same.

would be happy to provide this. where can i find this info on iStat Menus? also does checking under idle vs. heavy load matter?

It is in Celsius, I don't think you can change it to F at all.

On the sensor page of iStatMenus there is CPU IA voltage that's what we're looking for. Under load, Cinebench 20 would be best, similar to what @RumorConsumer did here on his 2.4:

Very happy with purchase, my only gripe is the keyboard is **** compared to the old scissor keyboard.

On my 15" 2.3 stock model, CPU IA hovered between .87 - .89 during the thick of the Cinebench run. Back up to 1.13 afterwards. Have dropbox churning in the background also.

Pretty sure that's because it's Celcius.

guess my cpu is 166 degree F right now. seems extreme

Kind of low voltage, what was the frequency? Maybe because of that dropbox it throttled down more. And the CPU - it can go all the way to 212F.

My i9 2.4 stays at 42-43 idle .Is this too much?
It’s gonna fluctuate. Sleep it overnight and wake it and give it 10 min. It’ll be lower.

Did you own a previous butterfly or is this your first?

Dropbox tends to monopolize a whole core when i use it. Wait for that to die down and then try again.

running it again, and looks like Dropbox has already finished, IA again around .97 and CPU Freq 2.98. It does not drop below .97, I think supporting your theory. So lower ghz undervolts less? Idle is between .5 - .6 IA. Screenshot below.

My 2.3 i9 bounces between .96 and .97 for CPU IA during the Cinebench run. CPU Frequencies bouncing between 2.94 and 3.02 for the most part.

Thanks! So it is a little higher than 2.4. Makes me wonder what is going on with your fans, 4k rpm only, but the power/frequency checks out. Voltage scales with frequency, you need higher voltage the higher frequency you want to run. $200 question is if 30mV is worth it.

This time it wasn’t rational. I fully intend on getting the medium CPU usually and this time it was pure desire for the nastiest chip I could get.

What apps do you use to test all of this? I’ve never really tested the performance of my machine to see if it has any issues. They in the App Store?

It does look like the 2.4 is better binned, but this time around Apple is finally taking advantage of it by fine tuning the power delivery for individual SKUs. Not by a whole lot, but at least they do something. The added benefit is they carry 2.4 in stores, so if you go with 1TB/32GB you can just replace it on the spot in case of problems rather than waiting for shipping.

So it's been nearly 2 weeks (still early I know) and I love this 13" Pro. The 13" MBP is so compact, light and easy to carry around, the battery life is also great (easily lasts me through the day and into the evening and night time.

It's also more than powerful enough for what I do/need. I love using Touch ID and the Touch Bar. I think the Touch Bar works well with apps, especially Pixelmator Pro, Pages, Final Draft and so on. I also love the retina display, it's much better than the display on my old 2011 MBP and even my 2012 iMac (that I still use at home).

The keyboard is really nice to type on, it feels better than previous versions.

So far still happy :)

Awesome ! Which model did you get ?

I was going to return it for a Thinkpad since I do CAD but I think I am better off with the MBP (booting windows).
