I was going to return it for a Thinkpad since I do CAD but I think I am better off with the MBP (booting windows).
As a heads up, you won't get quite as much performance when using bootcamp on the MBP. The undervolt and whatever other tweaks they made for the 2019 variants doesn't carry over to Windows. You will definitely run into thermal throttling while booted into Windows.

I figured. But after some research I also found out Thinkpad p52’s have their own thermal issues as well.

If I remember correctly, there is a CPU clock tools you can use to set the frequency. Simply use that and set to the comfortable zone it shouldn't have much of issue.

I have a 2.4GHz 8-core i9, 32GB, 1TB, Vega 20.

Ask me anything.
did it show up earlier than they initially said it would?

i have a similar configuration (except 512GB) slated for Jun27 arrival (10days).. i’m wondering how accurate that timeframe is.. thx

hey wait.. i do CAD (and CAM and rendering) and strictly MacOS... so there’s that option too ;-)

(but yeah, the software choices are limited for this type of work when compared to Windows.. but certainly doable if you get lucky and have all your requirements covered by Mac based software.. me personally—> Rhino, Grasshopper, and Fusion360 allow me to do all i need)

Keep Activity Monitor open. I minimize it and show CPU history. Next time this happens you can check the memory tab and look at the pressure chart. Green means all is cool in the memory department.

Just bought a I5 13" 256GB 16GB MacBook Pro TB 2019. Have not owned a MacBook in 6 years, and I am happy with it as it stands. Think the keyboard is ok so that is not a problem for me. Screen is very good, and a fast SSD. But I HATE the fact that I have to use adapeters for everything. And I am a bit skeptical to temps... As I write this I only have safari with Adblock open, and it is 67-68 degrees Celsius according to Istats.. Does that sound normal for MacBook Pro? (the reason for downloading Istat was because the fans is spinning a bit to loud, so I just wanted to check this out.

Edit: Had to add screen size and screenshot

I found out what gave me this temperatures... It happened after installing Bit Defender on my Mac. Have removed it and I have totally different temperatures.

Anybody else running iStat menus on an 8 core finding that it only shows you temps of cores 1-6?

Anybody who's familiar with the 2018 model that can give their impression of the 2019 keyboard?
I have a 2019 and a 2018 that belongs to my wife. I haven't compared side by side but I need to do some stuff on it and can later to post my impressions.

@MacRS4 commented on it here -

Good set of tools ! I use Rhino + Fusion 360 too, although I must admit the windows version are quicker on the same machine in bootcamp...... I prefer Autocad on the Mac too over the windows version. Note - bootcamp on the iMac Pro, I have no expereince on the 2019 MBP and any current throttling issues in bootcamp [but my old 2014 mbp used to die in bootcamp !]

Thanks for your info. My ex-X1E with 8870H is also slower than the MBP2019, I guess. Does GPU matter much for 2019 MBP? I remember that last year, the recommended model to get is the base 15" one.

I wonder how the X1 Extreme Gen 2 with the same i9 CPU will perform. On Lenovo website, there are many new "coming soon" X-series, T-series and P-series laptops but no definite date of release.

Not sure if it is true of not, he mentioned that MBP 2019 with Vega 20 GPU are nosier.

So you have the 2019 6 core model and got a score over 3,000?

I was just looking at this machine closed on a table. It is so pretty. And the way it performs? Come on. It’s an incredible machine. Perfect balance of form and function. Even making it fatter and heavier for more cooling... i dunno. And this from a guy who bought a G5 Quad... I just love it.

And now this rumor of a new 16" one in September. It is interesting to me, Ill admit. And, I am really happy with this machine. So we'll see what happens! Im really excited that Apple seems to be getting back to a Mac line up thats hot and fast and evolving. The benefit is that we get competitive hardware, the drawback is you don't get to have the latest hottest machine as long as you did before. I think the latter is fools gold (which Id happily trade) from the perspective of wanting a healthy platform.

I'm also blown away by how good this machine is. After the endless disappointment that was my 2018 MBP 15, this machine is bliss.

Completely agree. I ended up returning both the 2017 and 2018 15" MBPs, but I am officially past the return period for my 2019 15" and ended up selling my Dell XPS 15 - 9570 that I bought last year when I was annoyed with and ended up returning the 2018 15".

I FINALLY have a good upgrade from my 13" 2013 MBP and can enjoy MacOS on my mobile machine again since my 13" is now set up as my always on Plex Server.

Edit: The irony is that within the last month I went from a Windows laptop and an iPhone to a MacOS laptop and a Pixel mobile device, ha.
