What do you mean?

When you get a new Mac, Spotlight takes some time to index the new installation. If that's running in the background, it can cause heat, and can affect benchmarks.

But it seems unlikely that's still happening after a week.

Maybe keep an eye on Activity Monitor for processes using a lot of CPU.

Ok, so I always disable indexing of almost everything for Spotlight. And my computer is on for 12-14h per day.

Heating is produced ONLY when I'm using mentioned services - VOD + video conferences. Before them and few minutes after them temperature is normal.

Do those services use a lot of CPU when you're using them? I'd expect video decode to be offloaded.

I have felt that many of your criticisms have been hyperbolic and overblown. This one feels more fair for some reason.

TBH Apple's crime is it simply expects too much of us. Apple needs to place the MBP above the competition not only in price, in performance and usability.

I'm an engineer, tools need to work. The MBP was once the weapon of choice for many independent professionals. The 2016 killed that possibility for many.

We are now starting to see fair performance with yet to be proven reliability, which are the very basics. I absolutely see the benifit of W10 and OS X systems, equally I rather feel the 2019 is literally error correction.

All in all I'll wait for the new design as I'm more hopeful after the Mac Pro reveal. That said Apple needs to get real with pricing as the greed is both tiresome and insulting. My notebook's make decent coin, equally I don't appreciate being nickel and dimed...

Guys,do you think I will benefit from upgrading my 2018 mid tier 6 core i7 to the i9 2019? Right know I have a big issue with the fan noise . It's summer and this thing is going crazy when I use logic. Is the 2019 quieter? Some reviews said that its cooler ,but is it quieter? I'm asking about your personal experience and not random reviews on youtube.

The 8-core 2019 models are significantly more powerful than the 6-core models. The 2018 models are also thermally unacceptable IMO because under sustained load they will sit right above the base clock speed and right below 100c. The 2019 models have improved thermal paste and even the 8-cores can sustain significantly above base clock while still getting less hot than the 2018 models. If you have the money, I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade, yes.

I haven't had a chance to sit down and do a full session with Logic yet on the new 2019 but when I checked a few older songs, the fans DID ramp up pretty quickly.

Thanks for the reply. Have you ever had a previous post 2016 mbp? I think that it can't be worse that this. It can only be better? I am posting a screenshot from a loop with only 3 tracks of serum inside of Ableton. The daw doesn't matter. It's the same everywhere. I've put in on loop for 3-4 minute ,maybe even less and see how bad this is! 5700 rpm from 3 tracks!!! 256 buffer, 27c ambient temperature

i dont think the macOS can support a commercial usage
running 10.14.5 Mojave is difficult in a work situation.

better for iTunes and home media.

The problem with a new design is that you lose your track record. We're back to square one in terms of track record and also, do you (or anyone) want to embrace a gen 1 model w/o knowing what possible bugs/issues are present.

I think the 2019 MBP is what the 2016 should have been, it took apple 4 generations, and while I hope the process is smoother for 2020, there's no guarantee, I'd rather not be on the bleeding edge - but that's just me.

I picked up a 2.4 I9, 32 GIGs and a 1TB HD and I'm really happy. It's my first laptop (I've had desktops going all the way back to the 660AV). It's quite a change but I'm loving the portability. The speeds are absolutely crushing the 2012 iMac that I've had for years. The only thing that's going to take some time to get used (to coming from a silent desktop) are the fans. Lightroom and watching YouTube videos seems to ramp 'em up pretty quickly. But I dig the keyboard and I really like the Touch Bar. I don't think its quite there yet but I like the added convenience.
On my 2018 15 inch model the fans are absolutely silent when I'm watching 1080p videos on safari, they ramp up only when watching 1440p and above in chrome/firefox. What is you experience with safari and the fans? Could it be that something is wrong with your unit? Also do you have 560x or Vega?

I have had both the 6 and 8 core and honesty do not see a large difference (other than Geekbench etc.), not hear or fan noise etc. (at the beginning yes), hard for me to justify the extra money but then again, I am not a prof. film/programmer type, but I do push this tings pretty hard, performs beautifully!

I agree very much that this is what the MBP should have been in 2016. I'm fine with waiting as Apple has pushed me so far outside it's ecosystem it's no longer a big deal what Apple does one way or the other.

TBH I don't have high hopes, rather expecting more of the same. I consider my usage first and foremost, if Apple produces a notebook that works I'll consider, equally I'm not paying close to double for sub par performance and reliability no matter how nicely it's wrapped up.

The fans will be running full pelt most of the time with any DAW after just a few plugins, I’m afraid. There’s not been a MacBook Pro for which that isn’t the case for years. If ever.

Ah screw this, I can't wait for the 16" mbp. I went out and bought a maxed out 15" (2.4ghz, 32gb, v20, 4tb) in silver w/ applecare+ and boy it is effin' expensive. 64gb of ddr4 would have been nice but it will have an impact on battery life. We might even see 64gb or even 128gb of lpddr4 this fall w/ faceid and a more reliable keyboard. It's going to be a good machine for sure but I detest first gen products of any kind even from apple, and I've learned over the years never to do that.

The product I will be eyeing on will be the mini-led 16" mbp in 2021 and by then it should have gone through 2 iterations to make it better since the inevitable 16" this year.

In the meantime my new mbp is awesome, and it's the best iteration of the current design. Good thing I skipped the 2016, 2017 and even 2018.

Yo @vaugha ! Good to see you here. I love this thing. Def none of the previous ones felt good to me. My wife's 2018 does not hold speeds and truly this is the first model that actually feels ownable. Pains me to say but @Queen6 's assessment that this is the correction model is accurate.

2019 15" mbp is the best laptop on the market right now. That can change w/ the 16" later this year but for now it is.

Macos is miles better than w10, and it will only get better w/ Catalina. The design of the mbp is second to none still even after 3 years and the keyboard reliability is definitely improved from limited feedback I've heard. It's got the best speakers in the industry, best trackpad, decent screen. I could have bought a cheap car for the price I paid for this machine. Apple did it right w/ this one and that's why I paid good money.

I had frustrating issues w/ cosmetic damages out of the box w/ my previously returned 2018 mbps but it appears apple might have put in more stringent quality controls since. Maybe Apple senior management team reads this forum after all. :apple:

What color did you get? Space Gray to me always looks cheap after 6 months of ownership but I have it on good authority that its the more popular color amongst employees.

Silver. SG does look better but I had worries about reliability of the finish over long term use.

Silver man. Me too. All the way. I don't know if Ill ever dig any other color for a Mac. Its iconic.

Agreed. Silver will never get old. It will always be around. The most expensive mac that Apple's gonna sell this fall only comes in silver. It's a testament to how classic it is.
