Ok so now I finally managed to take some photos...
In the photos it looks like there is more space than there actually is because of that protection flap (or however one might call that), which goes right around all the edges (not only where the zippers are...). That provides also some "drop protection", not much I would think but better than only a felt case or so...
(For the photos I tried to push the macbook in one corner so that you can see the maximum left over space...)
There is about 5-7mm left over space to the top zipper but because of that it is easier to close without worrying about scratching the edges with the zipper. The macbook doesn't move around inside the case like it did in my felt case. It is bulkier than a felt bag though but that was to be expected. One can also charge it inside the case.
It also wasn't to expensive and I could order it from Amazon in Germany what wasn't possible with some of the other mentioned cases... All in all I really love it... ;-)
Great. Looks like mine, therefore i guess, their different models are all the same size.

Thanks for your response!

Do you have one of these sleeves for yourself? I've had a look through the reviews on Amazon and some people are saying that the MacBook doesn't fit that snug. As it's only £15, I may just risk it and see what it's like.

Does anyone have any experience with the following bags for use with the TBMBP:

AER Duffle Pack https://bearandbear.com/product/aer-duffle-pack-24l/?gclid=CMnn08amx9ECFcW4GwodcL4Pkg

Goruck GR1 http://www.goruck.com/gr1-rucksack-black-/p/GEAR-000574

Both look like solid options but I have no experience with either brand. The GR1 claims the laptop department can withstand a bomb blast in (!) but I wonder what the fit is like. The AER is a more versatile work/gym bag and I have seen reviews state that it can accommodate the 2015 MBP at least.

I have a 15" Late 2016 MBP and a GR1.

The laptop department is a little bit bigger than the MBP so it can slide around a bit and it isn't lined with anything soft, it is the same material as the bag itself. So I have a thin sleeve too just to be on the safe side. I don't think it will scratch the computer but I wouldn't take a chance either with a $3000 computer.

I love the bag for traveling as it is built to take you through a nuclear blast basically but I don't use it as a daily bag as the shoulder straps are built for the bag to be filled and heavy so they are not as comfortable if you just have your laptop and a few papers in it.

But when it is packed to the max for a weekend it is a great bag.

After finding my North Face Recon backpack being a little too bulky to use as a standalone laptop backpack, I decided to get a Timbuk2 Parkside in Abyss color. I was debating on this one and some NF backpacks, but the NF did not have a water bottle holder.

The Parkside is a great laptop backpack-- it has just the right amount of compartments, and is spacious yet slim. It fits the 15" MBP quite well, and I feel pretty safe tucking my MBP in without a sleeve. As an added bonus, there's a bottle opener built onto one of the straps.

I would like to see more padding on the straps-- they're pretty thin. But aside from that, no other major complaints.

this bag looks interesting, have you packed it full. How much can you pack into it?

Incase dropping the ball, and no one is picking up the slack :(

Any good thin sleeves for the 15 inch tbMBP yet?

I flip through the past dozen of pages in this thread and didn't see anything that seemed "right".

agreed, I had a slim incase sleeve for my "15 MBP and it was awesome. They need to update them for the 2016.

yup i bought it. i like it. snug enough for me.

i use it inside a tom binh pilot for cushioning and passing leaving the top unzipped to just slide/drop it in. if i were carrying around the mbp in just a sleeve, i'd probably want a thicker more protective sleeve

Thanks for this. I have a Pack and Smooch sleeve so I'd probably keep that on the machine in the bag.

Do you think the bag is worth the money? I'm in the UK so I'll also need to pay $60 on top for shipping! I would use the bag for gym/office/commuting on a general basis.

I haven't packed it full, but you can definitely fit your MBP and a couple of books along with your peripherals (I currently have a slew of dongles, the 87w power brick and an external battery pack). It's not nearly as wide as a normal backpack, but it's wide enough to fit a standard binder.

I wouldn't put too much weight in the backpack though, as I don't think there's enough shoulder padding to make it comfortable if too hefty.

The case I had on my MacBook Air had hundreds of small, round perforations by design. I recently removed it after almost six years because the bottom had cracked and was beginning to separate. After cleaning the computer with a soft rag, the metal surface looked just like it did when it was new, with no scratches or dents. Although I took good care of it, the MBA has traveled with me extensively, including several trips to the middle east.

Sleeves are great—I have a bag (Waterfield Designs calls it a SleeveCase) that I used to carry my MBA and now my MBP. But at some point you have to take the computer out. I like the hard shell because it protects against scuffs and dings that can happen when handling the laptop.

Agree with you 100% about the hardshell offering better protection.
I know the office jockeys do not like them, but out innreal world , protect much better.
I used the iblasion on my mac book air, went thru about 6 a yr as i am a mechanical cont. and take mine everyday on Jobsites, getting muddy ,scratched, etc.
I upgrade every cycle and give my old one to my grandaughter. They look very good after taking the case off.
On my new mac book pro ntb i bought this one - the brown one and feel it is a much better fit and case than the iblasion cases.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1PMW11/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also have recieved many compliments and inquiries on it taking on construction sites daily.
I just ordered 2 more as they get battered up pretty good but protect very well.
Overall , best case i have had since my first 2011 macbook

How heavy is it in comparision to the iBlason? I am not concerned about weight in terms in portability but more on the weight of the screen hinge. When I use my MBP in bed, it is not always opened to 90 degrees. I dont know if the additional weight would cause the screen to shut or slowly damage the hinge.

Feels about the same as iblason and never had problems with hinge or screen problem you are concerned about.
Hinge action unchanged with case on.

If you really like the military look, hike or travel a lot it is a great bag. It feels like it is unbreakable. But you pay a premium just for the brand and image. As I said the straps are quite stiff so it isn't the most comfortable backback if it isn't packed full (with some weight). So I don't use it as a daily, just for weekend getaways.

Any issues using it as carryon luggage?

No, not yet. I have only used it on flights a couple of times so far though.

Hey, Apple still doesn't offer protective sleeves for the new MBP's. I was hoping people could post some links to the third party sleeves they got and make some recommendations. Thanks :)

There is a back pocket that fits my 12.9" iPP or charging brick
You can purchase it with our without strap, I got one with a strap. Though I wish I preferred the grizzly brown color instead of black

The nice thing about the Dash that I forgot to mention is that you can charge it whiles it's securely in the case. This is important, for me anyway, since it kind of resolved the MagSafe issue. I just slip into this case all the time even when it charges so if it go caught on something at least it's in something padded.

Also, the Dash does hold an iPad easily in the back pocket. Chargers would work as well I suppose but might be a stretch since it's designed for thinner devices.
