I was thinking of picking up a Thule for my 13" tb pro, but have heard many complaints about the zipper after 3 months. I like the compactness & hard shell. Any other options out there?
[doublepost=1515186084][/doublepost]I'm currently looking for a nice, snug and protective bag for my MacBook Pro. I was looking into Incase, I liked their "deluxe nylon sling bag" for 13" but they don't sell that bag to us Canadians over here, unless I wanted to pay $140 plus shipping/duty. I also saw the Reform Brief bag that they have, it looks great but I have a lot of adapters. Three chords, a hard drive, the power adapter, and my many other adapters for USB-C.Looking for a high quality shell or hard case for a MacBook Pro retina 2015 15" .. but the problem is:
- All the ones I can find on amazon look exactly the same but with different vendors and different prices .. I've had them before.. they're the cheap plastic manufactured without much precision or art - they crack after time, they have horrible rough edges which can cut you, and they look like they cost about £0.01 to make.
- Even the so called reviews and "best of" don't do a good job of reviewing. All they do is show a pic and list some obvious or meaningless statements. And they all seem to list Speck which looks exactly like the rest which look and feel as bad, and cost a quarter of the price.
I'd happily pay extra for a quality, designed product.
I've had excellent experience with Incase - their ICON sleeve is good if overpriced, and the Reform brief bag is the best bag I've ever had - but they seem to have bought these cheap nasty pieces of plastic and stamped their name on it for the hardcore (SPOT it's called) - pics show it cracks, has horrible manufacturing, and even prevents you opening the Mac more than 90 degrees.
Any ideas?
I did use an IDOO case with my previous MacBook - cheap nasty and nothing special.
I'm surprised there aren't any silicone or similar wraps?
We seem to get better choice on smartphones.

more detail - case needs to be thin and light so I can pit it in my incase reform brief .. it needs to keep away scratches and dirt from cafe/other tables ... I doubt such thin cases can actually prevent damage from drops as they don't have any capacity to absorb shock.. but do educate me!
Great, I just picked up the 15" attache thingy lol. So the zipper breaks after 3 months?
I picked up the Mujjo sleeve, which is wool and leather. I’ll post pics when it arrives.
You’re sort of inspiring me to do the BSE install. But it seems like so much work, and I doubt I can do a good job. Yours is perfect!
Not sure if you already purchased anything but I was in the same boat as you. I ended up getting the waterfield designs outback solo messenger bag. Not exactly cheap but it is high quality and exactly what I was looking for. I went with the one designed for the 13" MBP and my laptop with a Procase shell on it fits perfectly.[doublepost=1515186084][/doublepost]I'm currently looking for a nice, snug and protective bag for my MacBook Pro. Do you think that this bag would have enough space for me?
My hope was to find a bag with a dedicated laptop pocket so no other items can share its pocket, and one with enough exterior pockets for my purpose, but that's proving to be impossible.
Also, would the 13" fit with a hard case? Or will that be too snug a fit it might stretch/damage the bag.
Thanks. I know I'm a needy person. Appreciate the response though.
[doublepost=1515186417][/doublepost]Hey, anyone know a bag that fits at least some of this criteria?
Snug-fitting dedicated MacBook 13" pocket that can fit a hard case
Exterior/other pockets big enough to fit a bunch of chords and adapters
(If a backpack) can fit a couple of textbooks comfortably?
I would love any recommendations, from reading a few comments already I'm looking into the Thule Attaché bag and Icase Icon Reform Brief.
After way too many hours of researching sleeves/cases I went with the Waterfield Dash Sleeve.
In the end I went for a Blason hard shell to use on my 13" TB MBP for those times I need it and so far have been very impressed. It was cheap enough on Amazon, has a nice soft finish, fits well and feels like good enough quality. It also feels less brittle than some of the Speck ones I've used in the past and tbh i've ended up leaving it on for the majority of the time now. I'm not obsessive about keeping the machine free of marks, but it gives me a bit of comfort factor when i'm using it on a variety of different surfaces.
Mujjo finally arrived yesterday!!!
Let me know what other type of pics you guys want. Such an amazing quality sleeve. Love it so far, can’t wait to see how the patina the leather part develops.
The biggest problem with shells is that they add weight to the screens which stresses the hinges to the extent of excessively loosening them. I recall seeing a YouTube video where a reviewer noted this and discusssd the issue with an Apple engineer who confirmed it.
After asking INCASE about the new 2017 sleeve with Taensorlite being reported as too big .. and getting no reply..
I decided I can't wait and did this:
- kept my INCASE for my previous 2015 rMBP 13
- ordered an IDOO case https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N68V36A
I am hoping the IDOO case protects the laptop when I'm using it in less than perfectly clean and safe offices / cafes .. and the the INCASE being too large will now snugly fit the MacBook Pro non-TB 13 2017 with the hardcore added.
Will let you know how it goes.
i'm using the waterfield outback solo messenger bag. The quality of their products is top notch. I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching messenger bags. With so many available options it starts to get ridiculous. After way too many hours of researching sleeves/cases I went with the Waterfield Dash Sleeve.
Thank you for this recommendation, perfect size for my 13" TB
Help me Macrumor forum, you're my only hope.
I've got an i-Blason Smooth Soft-Touch Matte Frosted Hard Shell Cover on my new MacBook right now and it weighs down my screen so it falls. Does this happen to yours too? It's a good case for protection but I'm now worried about the hinges as the heaviness adds a lot of movement in the screen.

Can you tell me what the padding is like in it? I'm considering one.
