Andar is releasing their new 14/16" Helm cases this Friday

Andar makes great cases; just bought a very nice iPad pro case from them... eager to see how these look! Too late for me, ordered the Glitty a few weeks ago...

My supcase show up. Too bad my MacBook still isn’t scheduled to show up until March lol

Has anyone grabbed a leather sleeve for their 14" or 16" MBP from various shops on Etsy? Looking at these in particular:

Curious if others have pros/cons to mention about these!

Got this, very happy. Edit: I see it’s your 3rd one.

Cool! Does the leather have any distinct smell and would it potentially get on the laptop itself? Any scratches stemming from the inside (I realize there's no felt or anything to soften it while it's inside the case). What colour did you get / any pics?

Quite a strong leather smell, but not on the MacBook. There is no lining, but the inside of the leather is soft, no issues so far (about a month). I went with the Dark Brown. I’ll snap some pics tomorrow.

So I received the Woolnut Folio case for the 14" MacBook Pro today and I'm very glad I purchased it.
It felt really substantial in the hand even without a MacBook Pro in it. Not heavy just good quality feel. It's full grain leather with a wool lining and comes in a few colours.
Inside it has two pockets. One for cards and the other can accomodate an iPhone or Field Notes notebook.

I have attached some photos so you can see how it looks. It is not as shiny as the photos make it out.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

I wish this thread was separated into one for bags, one for sleeves, one for plastic clamshell cases, and one for wraps.

Ex: I have zero interest in sleeves. They make no sense to my brain.

When I travel: I want all 4 sides covered with a lightly cushioned snug fitting zipper bag with a handle that helps me pull it out of my backpack when it’s low. Like this one.

When at home: I want protection from things falling on it, and edge protection from me dropping it.
This happened exactly once in past 5 years when my right thumb was splinted. Closed MBP hit the ground directly on its corner. The Pad & Quill’s Cartella’s case corner was permanently smooshed in, but the MBP’s corner was ,amazingly, fine. It gave the protection of a car fender which thankfully I needed only once.

So I’d love to see that segmentation that you described. If you start those topics I”ll fill up a couple replies with relevant examples!

Sleeves are great when you just want to take your laptop to a restaurant or coffee shop and you don't want to take all the accessories with you. I use a bag for when I want to have my accessories with me such as going to my office. At home it's on either on my desk or on my lap tray. Sleeves are also good if your bag doesn't have a dedicated spot for a laptop as well.

Ok, I started a thread. Hopefully it can focus on the more protective options and not the more decorative ones

By the way, I like the product you linked, have you used that one?

I ordered what looks to be a better option on Etsy that a member earlier recommended. Will report back if it seems of greater quality than the garbage hard shells on Amazon available now.

Wanted to update on this -- took FOREVER for it to be shipped/received (just finally got it). Despite its higher price, I was disappointed to see that this is basically just a better-painted version of the flimsy "hard shell" cases available all over on Amazon for $20-$30.

It certainly LOOKS nicer and doesn't seem to (yet) suffer the fingerprint staining of some of the other cases, but I'm afraid if you're looking for greater protection (back corners, stronger frame), you're going to be wildly disappointed.

That case actually looks like it has some heft -- how strongly are those sides reinforced? My complaint with all the options I've tried so far (which seem to be coming out of the same factory, despite different branding) is that they are nothing more than scratch blockers but offer no other real protection.

Does anyone know if there is something rugged still available for an early-2015 13" rMBP? Something along the lines of the UAG cases for newer macs. I know it's old but it's still in pretty good nick and I want to keep it that way.

Very bummed that Tom Bihn doesn't make the Brain Cell any longer. Was by far the best light duty laptop case/bag. You can still find them on eBay.

I was pleased to find that the Brain Cell I bought for my 2012 13in MBP is the perfect size for my 2021 14in MBP.

@TomBihn, Bring back the Brain Cell!
