Hey guys,
Bit of a discussion here - I bought my 14 inch MacBook Pro, and I am using an old generic sleeve with it while I look for other options. Would love to see an Apple leather sleeve as it fits perfectly and I see it working extremely well with my personal use case. Do we think Apple will eventually release this with the more consumer focused M1/2 14 inch MBP?

On a side note, Apple doesn't even sell third party cases for the 21' MPBs, and there isn't a whole lot support from the more "premium" manufacturers such as Nomad or Native Union, which is a shame really.

What are your thoughts? What cases have you been using for the new MBPs?

I got a leather sleeve from Baber London. Very nice quality.

Just ordered myself a Harber London after seeing your post and checking out their website, thank you!
Yeah the Harber are great quality. I have one from 2016 still going strong.
With the new MacBook Pro I decided to try Woolnut folio and love the quality of those as well.

pics of the supcase.
To sum things up, its a tank! definitely adds some weight to an already heavy monster. but I tell you what, I have a skin on the top and bottom of my MacBook and this thing still clips in pretty damn good, does feel decent quality. I will say, save yourself some money and get it from Aliexpress, its the same thing as the one on Amazon, and amazon is charging quite a bit of an upcharge. It is definitely not one of those take on and off kinda of cases, if your going to get it, make sure you aren't thinking about taking this thing off everyday. Almost feels like your gonna break the laptop taking it off. pics with an iPad 11 inch inside of magic keyboard for comparison.

Thanks for this. I'm in the UK. £29 on Amazon, £23 from Aliexpress.

It's kind of weird we still haven't got any cases from places like incase still.
I've emailed some of them and the response has basically been that production is taking longer due to the global supply chain issues. Another said that in the past Apple has provided them with specs ahead of time, but this time around Apple was tight-lipped and didn't tell anyone anything. ??‍♂️

that sucks! I wonder if the schemactics leak last year is the reason why Apple didnt send them out, also since the design is new. But Apple seem to have sent out specs for iPhones though.

I found this sleeve a few weeks back for my 16" after trying to find a similar sleeve to the old Apple Leather sleeves. Overall, the leather feels nice to hold and unlike the Apple Sleeve, which had painted edges that would melt when you would carry the machine over time, this does not have that flaw, and even has a nifty folding stand like a Smart Cover and my Mac just locks into a groove created by the sleeve flap when it folds out into a palm rest. It's padded with a microfiber material inside and overall this might be on of my favorite sleeves yet. I've included a link below the images.

Couple of questions

Anybody tried to put 16” M1 in a 16D Tom Bihn cache? Hoping not to have to buy newer model.

Also what about those Waterfield ballistic nylon “Sleevecase” bags with the Velcro fastened flap for 15” from years back.

UAG has their Dot Series shipping in some colors for the new 14" and 16". I ordered the dot in black for my 16". Should be here tomorrow. https://www.urbanarmorgear.com/products/u-dot-series-macbook-pro-16-2021-case

I've been using a Mosiso (sp?) cheap one from Amazon and one of the corners has already started falling apart. Feel bad about that since I've covered it in stickers that I'd rather not have lost! I'm trying to super glue the cracks and keep it from cracking any further.

I have the same issues with the one I got from Amazon.

So there's no TPU offerings then? They are all just the brittle hard shell plastic?
For the time being/initial stocks were all just hard shell plastics. The color/design may have changed but material was all the same. But I noticed a bulkier supcase version is in right now and with the UAG as well.

Yeah I hate the Mosiso material - it’s a finger print magnet and looks disgusting on black. I miss my older one from an unknown Chinese maker that used a hard non-gloss surface plastic.

Does the UAG Dot offer much in the way of rigidity on the back of the screen? I ask because I cracked my screen by picking up the closed laptop by gripping the corner. And now that the screen is just black, I can get it to show rainbows easily by pressing gently against the corner where it cracked. In other words, the glass is paper thin and the metal behind it isn’t very much either. I realize I need something good to protect it going forward.

(edited to say this is a 16” M1Pro 2021)

Having used Mac Laptops for 20 years, I’m afraid I may not change my habits even now always to mindfully pick it up as if it were made of a 1mm sheet of melting ice. I’m afraid I might grab it again. But I don’t want to turn it into even more of a tank than it already is. It seems so big and chonky, but that’s misleading. Well, it is big and chunky, but it’s not strong.

My personal theory is that Apple designed the bottom of the M1 so there would be more heat sink and more airflow, and the fans wouldn’t come on. In fact, I really have to pound it to get the fans to come on — a big lightroom export will do it. But to compensate for that, they skimmed off mass from the back of the screen. My theory.

This thing is fragile and I’m bummed out that I broke it by picking it up. I’m working on a project and I’ll be dead in the water for a while. The backup computer around here is ancient and only will run Big Sur, so I think it’s going to be hard to really move into it and function.

Does anyone have experience with these cases? Are they easily removable? I wont be doing that often but if I do I would like to ensure its not a pain to push out the clips and they dont end up scratching the macbook.
Incase has been my go-to for my previous MacBooks. Every time I remove, there are no issues with scratches or anything. Just placed my order for the new one.
